Cauflield (Wednesday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Caulfield. Today’s best bet is in race 5.
Racing Victoria is doing a lot of experiments this summer to see whether new ideas work well with punters. Today’s Caulfield meeting will be held as a twilight event with the first race to start at 4.30pm.
We have seen night racing increased in Victoria over the past two summers with meetings on Thursday and Friday nights each week as RV hunts for a bigger slice of the gambling dollar.
This evening’s meeting will be like a night at the greyhounds with only 30-minute intervals between each race, so punters won’t have time to dawdle and the stewards will be praying for incident-free races.
Not an easy card to find winners as most of the races appear fairly even on paper value.

No10 SPIRIT OF AQUADA has been placed at four of his six starts. Last start finished last of 12 over 1100m here on December 26. That effort was out of character by the son of Bel Esprit and he has been freshened up. Has the pace to be sitting on the leaders and will go very well fresh.
No2 STEEL OF MADRID was given a breather after last start third over 1200m maiden at Moonee Valley on December 12. Trainer Tony Noonan had him trial where he ran a comfortable second over 900m at Stony Creek on January 9. Noonan’s son Jake rides and is well drawn in gate three.
No1 BEST MAN has been placed second five times at 11 starts. Latest ran sixth over 2000m maiden at Mildura on October 3 as a $3.10 favourite. Resumes today from a 15-week spell and is having his first start in the city. Expect him to be running home and is an each-way chance.
No3 SURFER JOE has been placed twice at four starts. Latest he ran a close third over 1118m handicap at Geelong on January 4. He drops back to maiden class today and he was specked at big odds being backed from $41 into $20 last start. Would expect him to strip fitter as his last start was first-up.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 SURFER JOE
R2 – 5.00pm. Ladbrokes Odds Boost Exotics – 1200m.
No3 LUCKY CAT was a spirited winner at debut when having to dig deep over 1100m fillies maiden at Bendigo on December 17. She than had no luck when got shuffled back to last and powered home when it was all over to run eighth over 1100m here on January 7. Gets top rider Damian Lane to partner.
No8 PAGEANTRY has the winkers coming off and the blinkers going on for the first time here. Last start she ran a solid ninth in a listed race over 1800m at Flemington on November 9. She was stepped up to group class during the spring and drops down to a far lower grade first up here. Goes well fresh.
No11 STYLISH MISSILE dug deep to win at her debut in an 1100m maiden at Wodonga on September 11. Has not raced since finishing a good third over 1100m at Bendigo on October 21. With Ethan Brown’s 2kg claim her impost will be reduced to a comfortable 57kg and makes appeal against her own age and sex.
No14 CARIBBEAN PEARL was well backed at $4.60 before breaking through for her first win at her sixth start over 1200m maiden at Warrnambool on January 7. Steven Vella keeps the ride and she does go up 2kg to 58kg but she has a superior draw in gate one. This is her second start back from a spell.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 STYLISH MISSILE
R3 – 5.30pm. Ladbrokes Info Hub – 1600m.

No9 LA VOLT lost ground and worked hard to drive in fourth place over 1400m at Caulfield on January 7. Will again carry 60kg but gets a change of rider with Ben Thompson the new partner. Has been a shade unlucky at his two starts at this track finishing fourth on both occasions. Rates with claims.
No5 RANSOM MONEY was a tenacious winner over 1500m two starts ago at Moonee Valley. Last start ran a steady sixth over 1500m at Sandown on January 10. The four-year-old gets the 2kg claim of apprentice Ethan Brown to reduce his weight down to 58.5kg today and looks a serious player.
No14 HELIX PARK was an impressive winner in a 1200m maiden against her own sex at Mornington at her debut on December 8. Last start she ran a strong fifth over 1500m against her own sex at Sandown on January 3. She was held up at a critical stage of the race. She gets her chance against the males today.

No2 PREVAILING WINDS posted his second career win at seven starts over 1200m at Mornington on December 13. He was heavily backed into a $1.90 that day. He has an excellent draw in five and with Damian Lane and trainer Darren Weir combining will be a strong force at his return to this circuit.
No13 SEE ME EXCEED is a stablemate to Cao Cao and started her career on the highest note with a win at Bairnsdale over 1000m back in August. Has not been seen since but she was backed from $8 into $6.50 that time. She gets ace jockey Dwayne Dunn to ride from a wide gate in 13.

He drops a kilo to 58kg today and Jordan Childs keeps the ride on him. He can make the transition.
No3 CHIPPENHAM was an imposing winner over 1300m at Sandown three starts ago. Last start narrowly missed over 1400m at Sandown on December 30. He gets apprentice Tahlia Hope’s 3kg claim dropping his weight to 57kg.
No1 BON ROCKET with the 2kg claim of Brandon Stockdale will carry 58.5kg and ran home strongly last start.

VALUE RUNNER: No1 BON ROCKET
R7 – 7.30pm. Ladbrokes Cash Out – 1200m.
No14 BOORADLEY (BEST BET) is a four-year-old who exhibited plenty of zest to lead from the front and dictate a strong win over 1200m at Sandown on January 3. He was plunged from $4.80 into $3.70 that day and he is well drawn in gate one today. He gets the 3kg claim of apprentice Liam Riordan to reduce his weight down to 55kg – which is a kilo less than he carried last start. Makes strong appeal.
No7 BORD DE GAIN finished strongly over 1100m here with 59kg last start and with Damian Lane again to ride makes a good case.
No12 SANDHURST DELIGHT was finishing full of steam when winning over 1300m last start at Sandown.
No10 DAM READY with the 3kg claim of Stephanie Thornton will carry 55.5kg and can redeem.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 DAM READY

No3 EVIL LIL (BEST ROUGHIE) was a fighting winner at Pakenham on a soft track two starts ago. Strikes soft going again today after running a steady 14th on a firm track over 1400m at Flemington on January 1. The 3kg claim of apprentice Tahlia Hope drops her weight to 57.5kg.
No2 TIZSO WICKED was a smart winner over 1200m at Moonee Valley three starts ago. Last start she ran a strong fourth as a rank outsider over 1400m at Warwick Farm on December 23. The 3kg claim of Jessica Eaton drops her weight to 58kg and she has drawn in gate two to get a soft run.

Last start she battled on steadily after being headed at the 200m to finish eighth over 1400m against her own sex at Flemington on January 1. Zac Spain’s 2kg claim reduces her weight to 57kg and she jumps from three.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 EVIL LIL
R5 – 6.30pm. Ladbrokes Multimaker – 1100m.
No9 VILLA ROSA looms with good prospects on her last-start third over 1000m at Sandown on December 20. The daughter of Exceed And Excel is raced sparingly and she gets the bonus of ace rider Craig Williams to guide her from gate 11 today. Can make an impact at her debut here today.

She does ride 2.5kg to 60kg today but Mark Zahra keeps the ride. Has been ultra reliable and would respect.
No12 LA RENARDE was working her way through a tight field when finishing a good eighth over 1000m at Sandown on December 30. She gets a change of rider today with Regan Bayliss replacing Beau Mertens and she carries the same weight on 55.5kg. This is her third start back from a spell and can improve.
