Wed, 17 Jan, 2:42 PM

Canterbury for Friday night racing yet again in Sydney and we have eight good betting races on the cards here, and I see no reason as to why you shouldn’t be getting out there if you live in Sydney, the forecast is for brilliant weather, plenty of activity for the kids. Plus eight winners to be found. Track will be good with the rail +3m.

QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny Play:  4,8  -  2,4  -  2,3,4  -  1,7

Wide Play:  3,4,8  -  1,2,3,4  -  2,3,4,8  -  1,5,7,9

Next Best Bet: R3 – 2. CAMPAIGN

Best Roughie: R5 – 4. CADOGAN

R1 – 6.15pm. Australian Turf Club Handicap - 1200m.

No7 MISTEED was just touched off on debut by Whiskey Shooter, who wasn’t disgraced last week in the Magic Millions so we have seen that form hold up somewhat. She now has the benefit of race experience and finds Bowman and she will be tough to beat.

No4 SANDBAR has been going about his business quite well at the trials and looks well educated for the debut run here. He is a stoutly bred colt who has a big price purchase tag next to his name, and his big connections will be hoping he can kick off with a win here.

No6 EVERARD found the line really well on debut in a race which should be ok enough in the future, three horses out of it ran well enough last week on the Gold Coast. She draws a soft gate here and Avdulla can sit just behind the leaders here and look to pounce.

No9 POSITIVE PEACE has been doing a good enough job at the trials and looks ready to go here on debut. She extended quite well when asked in her most recent trial and should run well on debut.

R2 – 6.45pm. TAB Handicap - 1100m.

No2 IMPASSE is a brilliantly bred horse, who if he has half of his mum and dads ability, will be a very good horse. The trials have been ok enough coming in. From the gate he will more than likely go back at come at them with one run here.

No1 LEAGUE OF NATIONS well, I have had enough of this horse personally. He promises the world and lets down like an average horse. It will all click one day for him, he has had the blinkers taken off now, maybe that is it? He has run well without winning in a lot of races and he is a chance again.

No4 BEEP BEEP has trialled well leading into the debut run here, and the trainer should know what he is getting as he trained the mother. The trial was nice and she extended when Adkins asked her. Pearse is a very shrewd trainer and she will be ready to go.

No6 MAUI PRINCESS was good when closing off well fresh. She should take a lot of improvement out of that run being second up now. From gate 1 King will look to bustle her out of the gates and attempt to dominate the race.

R3 – 7.15pm. #THERACES Handicap - 1900m.

No2 CAMPAIGN (NEXT BEST BET) was the strongest late last start when getting the job done over the 1550m and now steps to the 1900m with Bowman aboard here and should be able to handle them again. I love how he knuckled down and really chased hard late to get the job done there, the step up to the 1900m shouldn’t be an issue at all and he gets a good run on the map again.

No4 GODUNOV was solid enough last start when finding the line well, 1900m shouldn’t be an issue at all here.

No1 PICKELHAUBE was just touched off by Campaign last start, 1900m shouldn’t be an issue, but I cannot see how he can turn that result around without bad luck coming into play.

No3 COLESBERG could cause a boilover if he wanted to be a racehorse, who knows what mood he will be in today.

R4 – 7.45pm. Handicap - 1250m.

No3 AL MAH HAHA was a good winner when resuming and he has always looked to be a nice horse, and I like that he resumed with that win and really extended when he was asked for what was a good win, the step up to 1250m is ideal here and looks a good next step.

No2 TAMARACK got a soft kill with a big weight first up at Canberra and looks to have come back a better horse, the time wasn’t much to talk about, but I like the way he went about it there it showed that there was more to come.

No7 IT’S SO OBVIOUS resumes here, she was taken out of a race on Wednesday. She has trialled in good order coming into the fresh run. She is a mare with untapped ability and should run well here given her good fresh record and her affinity with Clark.

No5 INQUIRY looks to be next best here, he got the job done at Newcastle, but they didn’t run any time for a track that has been producing better figures than that as of late.

R5 – 8.15pm. Win 10k Cash At Canterbury Nights Handicap - 1100m.

No8 IMPERIAL EAGLE has been solid in both runs back this time in and was run down with the big weight late last start. The form around him this time in is quite strong and I do expect him to take up the running from barrier 1 and give them something to catch.

No4 CADOGAN (BEST ROUGHIE) resumes here (sigh) and at his best (sigh) could blow them away. We have seen glimpses of it during his career and that win at Scone fresh last time in was awesome. The trial was good, from gate 2 he will have a quiet run and try to reproduce that Scone win.

No3 ALL CARISMA has been quite consistent and good at all runs this time in, she has only won the one from 10, but she has placed a further seven times, the claim for Innes here is quite suitable and he has a chance again.

No1 WIDE ACCLAIM has a solid enough fresh record and the two trials leading in have been nice and soft, the claim for JVO here is quite helpful and gives him his best chance.

R6 – 8.45pm. TAB Rewards Handicap - 1100m.

No4 SOOTHING has been good in three runs this time in winning two of them, the last in pretty dominant fashion. Good jockey change here with Avdulla getting aboard here, from the gate (10) he will roll across here and attempt to dominate the race.

No2 PHOENIX CLAWS was quite good fresh and comes into the second-up run here, with a win second-up in the past. There was money for her fresh which shows that she has come back in good order, she will jump and lead here and give them something to catch.

No3 GENETEAU is a tricky, tricky mare who has been looming up to win in all runs this time in, and then she sees the winning post and basically hits the reverse button. She is well weighted after the claim here and IF she hits the front, hold your breath.

No1 ALART is now in the category of “my trainer will run me in everything I’m rated to run in” in four runs this time in, she has run between 800m and 1300m. She is a talented mare on her day who could win this, but does she have the same zip.

R7 – 9.15pm. Schweppes Evening Star - 1550m.

No3 PIANISSIMO has been very good at the last two runs and has been bursting to win a race this time in and finds a race in which he is very hard to beat here, all he needs to do is hold his current form and the step up to the 1550m shouldn’t be an issue at all. He looks the one.

No4 HAMMOND LANE won well at this course and distance last start and was coming out of some solid form prior to that. All he needs to do is hold that form, now that he has won a race and he will be hard to beat here.

No2 FRANCESCO has quite a good record at this track and drops back from Saturday grade to run in this. His track and distance record reads 3:2.0.1 so at the 1550m at Canterbury we can expect to see him run to his best and he looks set to peak third up.

No8 TENNESSEE HUSSY has been going quite well this time in and is very well weighted after the claim here. She has won and placed in five runs from nine starts at the track and the form out of the last start run should hold up.

R8 – 9.45pm. Book ATC Summer Hospitality Today Handicap - 1900m.

No1 HIGH OPINION (BEST BET) should be winning this after three runs this time in, the last two of which were very good closing off in strong order, he had a long break leading into this prep and he may have taken that extra run to be 100 per-cent fit. He has an impeccable record at this track and for Clark, 1900m no issue and he just needs a touch of luck in the run to be too good for them here.

No5 LORD MACAU looks the likely leader here and will be hard to catch, the end of a tough 1900m however is my concern for him, as at his last two he has been run down late.

No7 REX BELL is having his first start in Australia for Waller, he gets the blinkers on, finds Bowman and has had two good trials leading in. Watch the betting here.

No9 BALMAIN BOY has been good this preparation in his four runs, his last of which was his best. The trial between runs suggests that he is going quite well, and he has his chance to win another race here.
