Lanciato – Rosehill Race 7: 1st ($3.30):
Continued his rich vein of form under what was a brilliant steer from Rachel King. Getting out clear air with only 200m left to get he gunned down Endless Drama and Prized Icon who looked to have the race. Recorded race fastest splits of 33.98/11.57s. Stamped himself as a Doncaster competitor off perhaps a let up now.
Red Dubawi – Rosehill Race 8: 5th ($17):
Another solid grinding effort. Settling off mid-field with the light weight, Adkins showed the 7YO the stick well before the turn. Never looked a place threat but battled in behind them well. Down in grade and out in distance may suit now.
Long Leaf – Caulfield Race 2: 1st ($3.80):
The Fastnet Rock Colt extended his un-beaten streak to 3 in style, cutting through the field to win by 0.5L on the line. Splits indicate that the well-backed Ollivander ($3.90) was eating into the margin at the end, giving the impression that an extra 200m may suit him more than Long Leaf. However, can’t knock winning form and won’t be letting him go round a loser in the Diamond Prelude.
Cao Cao – Caulfield Race 7: 1st ($3.40):
All went to script. Let bowl along in front of the small field with a small gear tinkering (only off-side blinker applied) he never looked in trouble under the steering of Zhara – rated perfectly. This new zest for racing should see him competitive for the remainder of the prep.
This Week’s Black Book Runners:
Mr So and So – Moonee Valley Race 6th: 4th ($15):
Sent out at long odds considering the small field of 9. Looked bright in the yard but paraded with a stack of improvement only being first-up. Zhara took hold from the outside barrier, settling 8th a long way off the leader Aeecee Tong De (3rd $6). Stormed home in a quick 35.06/12.01s, the second fasted for the race behind Andaz (6th $9.50).
Looks like this gelding will eat up the mile. Having run a narrow 0.5L 4th in a listed race at Flemington, storming home in similar fashion, the start prior where he drew the very outside again. If he draws a marble this 3YO with a rating of only 64 should be going very close in his next outing.
Where to Next? 3YO BM70 over 1400m.
Endless Drama – Rosehill Race 7: 3rd ($3.60):
Paraded well, close to its top and the money came late accordingly. Firming from $4.60 into $3.60 in the final 5 minutes of betting. Those punters were soon cursing in the run as the import was as Tye Angland was caught wide throughout and pushed even deeper coming to the turn.
Despite the run, he hit the front a fair way out. Looking to be in a battle with only the resuming Prized Icon until a freak ride from King landed Lanciato the win. Only first-up after 2 good trials the son of Lope De Vega will have an excellent fitness base to step out to the 1600m next start with an eye towards the Doncaster or the Queen Elizabeth as end goals.
Where to Next? Group Class Races over 1600m+ (A distinct lack of which in the coming weeks could see a freshen up).
