The State of South Australia has been ablaze over recent weeks with temperatures soaring into the high 30’s and low 40’s. Last Saturday saw the club head into the twilight hours to try to escape the oppressive heat of the day.
Racing returns to its normal times on a Saturday this week with the first race to kick off at 12.46pm.
It will be warm with a top forecast of 32C after an overnight low of 18C, but mild compared to recent temperatures. The false rail will be shifted from the true Position to nine metres from the 1200m to the winning post and will be at six metres for the remainder. The track is expected to be a Good 4.
Leading Adelaide trainer Tony McEvoy and regular Victorian raider Darren Weir hold strong hands on the eight-race card. Punters can get their bank in the opening race by backing the unbeaten Victorian contender Belfast in the James Boag's Premium Handicap (1600m). He is at $2 in early betting and should take a power of beating.

R1 – 12.46pm. James Boag's Premium Handica – 1600m.
No1 BELFAST (BEST BET) is looking to bring his unblemished form on provincial tracks in Victoria to Adelaide and with apprentice Zac Spain’s 2kg claim will have his impost reduced to a comfortable 57kg. He has won his past two starts by a total of 3.25 lengths over 1200m and 1400m and takes the next step today up to 1600m. Prepared by astute Kiwi trainers and strikes only four in opposition here.
No4 PEARL RAIDER broke her maiden over 1507m at Gawler in style by 5.7 lengths. Respect.
No2 SKILLFUL STEPS scored a brilliant maiden win at Strathalbyn over 1212m. Looks a threat.
No3 ANTIPAS is trained by Tony McEvoy and won at Pakenham over 1600m three starts ago.

No2 LITE’N IN MY VEINS is a former Perth-trained galloper searching for his first city win interstate. He showed he was on course for a breakthrough win with a fifth in the Chester Manifold (1400m) at Flemington on January 13. Carries 57.5kg with the 2kg claim.
No1 JIM’S JOURNEY gets two serious gear changes with the blinkers and the tongue tie going back on here. He will carry 56.5kg with the 3kg claim of Justin Huxtable after finishing a close third over 1550m here on January 20 first up. Danger.
No4 DANCES ON STARS showed good grit to win the Australia Day Cup (1600m) at Murray Bridge on January 25. He carried 58kg that day and plummets to 54kg today and in form jockey Todd Pannell keeps the ride.
No3 SCRATCHY LASS chasing a fourth straight win after two wins at Morphettville and a win at Gawler over 1511m, 1705m and 1550m. Sairyn Fawke rides again and she drops in weight to 53.5kg with her 2kg claim.

No1 CHICAGO TYPEWRITER has the score on the board whereas many of these are debutantes and have no exposed form. Was supported at $6 before finishing a good second over 1000m here on January 20. Drops to 56kg with the 3kg claim of apprentice.
No2 MORE THAN EXCEED was given a respite after running a promising second over 1000m here at debut on October 7. He is a son of leading stallion More Than Ready and hails from an astute Adelaide stable and would keep safe.
No4 SUNSET WATCH gets a cross-over noseband and a lugging bit on for the first time at debut. He is trained by the astute Team Hawkes and has top Adelaide rider Todd Pannell to ride on 56kg and is drawn in two. Watch.
No11 PAPER PLANE also is engaged in a two-year-old race at Moonee Valley on Friday night. She will sport blinkers and a lugging bit at her debut and is from Victoria’s premier juvenile yard of Team Hayes.

R4 – 2.31pm. Hughes Limousines Handicap – 1100m.
No2 AVANTI ROSE has the outstanding stats of three wins and three placings at seven starts. Latest she scored a strong win over 1000m here on January 20. The filly is listed to carry a kilo less on 57kg and gets a change of rider with Harry Coffey taking the reins.
No3 ECLAIR SUNSHINE ran a solid fifth in the Group 3 Red Anchor (1200m) at Moonee Valley last start on October 28. Has a great record fresh of four starts for a win and three seconds. Has the visors taken off and will wear a cross-over noseband for the first time.
No1 PLUTOCRACY was spelled after failing when finishing seventh in the Listed Poseidon Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on October 7. Has a sensational record fresh of two starts for a win and a second, but has drawn eight.
No5 MONDO MAGIC will wear a cross-over noseband and has the tongue control bit off for the first time. Ran an encouraging fourth over 1000m here on January 20 first-up and should strip fitter for the effort.

R5 – 3.06pm. UBET Adelaide Cup Monday 12th March Handicap – 1200m.
No4 BENZ (NEXT BEST BET) was given a nice trial where ran a solid second over 1000m here on January 29 in preparation for return from a three-week break. First-up ran a strong fourth over 1100m down the straight at Flemington on January 13. He has a great record at this trip with four starts for a win and a second and will carry only 55kg and jumps from gate three. Another bonus is having top Adelaide jockey Jason Holder to steer.
No6 STRATEGIC DEMAND has an excellent record at this track and been placed past two starts at Gawler.
No5 CANON DIABLO was a brilliant 2.8 length winner on the oil track at Darwin last start on December 16.
No3 COUNTER PULSE has been most consistent without winning at Gawler. Also runs well here
R6 – 3.46pm. Medallion Homes Handicap – 1100m.
No3 OAMARU OWL was a brilliant winner over 1000m here two starts ago. Last start ran a strong fourth when caught wide over 1200m at Gawler on December 23. Has been given a freshen up and runs well at this track.
No4 CHAPEL ROAD is a Victorian raider making his debut at this track. Comes here off a steady sixth over 1000m at Ballarat on January 16. He gets top Adelaide rider Dom Tourneur to steer and only goes up a half-kilo to 58kg.
No5 MISS IDENTIFIED claimed three straight wins at Gawler and Morphettville this campaign. Returned from an eight-week let up when finished a fighting fourth over 1250m here on January 20. She gets senior rider Todd Pannell this time.
No8 ZALMONA comes to the city off a very good win over 1208m at Gawler on January 21. He carried 58.5kg that day to win easily by 1.4 lengths and he drops 3.5kg to 55kg today. Top Adelaide rider Paul Gatt keeps the reins and respect.

R7 – 4.26pm. Adelaide Galvanising Handicap – 1800m.
No2 DIVINE SANCTION is an Irish import with the top Victorian stable of Darren Weir making his Morphettville debut. Comes here off a strong fourth in the Camperdown Cup (1600m) on January 20. He is second-up but expect to be strong.
No6 ACE ATTACK has been placed at three of past five starts. Latest he challenged but had no answer to the winner when finishing fourth over 1712m at Gawler on January 13. Drops a half-kilo to 57kf today and Clare Lindop rides again.
No11 TAN TAT TRUSTING has the blinkers going on for the first time and the winkers coming off. Last start ran a 2.6 length 10th over 1600m at Flemington on January 20. Was out kicked but kept on chipping away and looks an each-way chance.
No9 BERTWHISTLE claimed a respectable hat-trick on the South Australian country tracks before finishing a strong third over 2000m at Flemington on January 20. The mare is rock hard fit and expect her to show here.

R8 –5.06pm. The Junction Handicap – 1200m.
No4 REGAL SPUR has a critical gear change with the tongue tie going on for the first time. Ran on well at first-up start to finish a good third over 1050m here on December 26. Has been kept fresh for this sprint and is down on class.
No1 MYSTIFIED also is engaged at Moonee Valley on Friday night so will get a good lead from the scratchings. Ran a cracking third over 1250m here on January 20 and with Dylan Caboche’s 2kg claim she will carry 59.5kg today.
No6 OUTINTHESTREET has been on a rampage with two successive wins over 1100m and 1108m at Gawler. The four-year-old showed plenty of fight to win on January 21 and he is on the quick back up, but he gets top rider Joe Bowditch to ride.
No7 BAKER’S DOZEN (BEST ROUGHIE) has finished inside the money at three of past four starts. Last start ran on well to finish third over 1400m here on January 20. With Emily Finnegan’s 1.5kg claim will carry 56.5kg for this race. Would keep safe.
