Thu, 1 Feb, 10:15 AM

Newcastle for our Saturday meeting in provincial Sydney. We have eight races on the card in what looks to be a solid enough day. The weather in the leadup has been solid enough and we should be on good going, with the rail in the true position.

QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny Play:  3,4  -  1,4  -  1,3,4  -  7

Wide Play: 2,3,4,8  -  1,4  -  1,2,3,4  -  1,6,7,10

Next Best Bet: R6 – 4. GRASSLANDS

Best Roughie: R4 – 5. MACHISMO

R1 – 2.19pm. Beaumont Street Carnivale C,G&E Class 2 Handicap - 1200m.

No4 NATIONALITY (BEST BET) in and out early with the best bet here. The win first-up was very good, although he did take a while to wind up there, but he was super strong through the line. I love how he is placed here, in another race at home that isn’t too strong. He should be too good again and go onto better things.

No2 GENERAL ARTIE has been good at the past two starts, winning in good order. This looks a logical next step.

No5 IMPERIAL EAGLE drops in grade here, and has been going quite well this time in.

No1 PLAISIR resumes here, and although he may need further the trial was good.

R2 – 2.54pm. IGA Liquor Maiden Plate - 900m.

No1 MONEY TRAVELS has been trialing up in well enough style leading into the debut. He gets a good run behind the speed here.

No7 SUNREEL was good enough on debut, but comes back in distance to 900m here which is a touch concerning.

No4 SHIRE FLYER has been trialing up in good style leading into the debut and should run well.

No2 TEN CARAT looks to be next best here, and has been ok enough.

R3 – 3.29pm. Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors Class 1 Handicap - 1600m.

No1 JUST SHINE was sensationally backed fresh, and found the line well there. The step up to 1600m here is much more suitable.

No2 AEECEE TIANHU got the job done well enough last start when drifting in the market. He looks the leader here and will be hard to catch.

No3 SOMETHING SHOCKING steps up in distance here, she found the line well last start.

No5 KEEPING WATCH won fresh and looks to be next best here.

R4 – 4.09pm. Lees Racing Maiden Handicap - 1500m.

No2 IMPASSE should appreciate stepping up in distance here, well backed on debut and was good enough there.

No5 MACHISMO (BEST ROUGHIE) should appreciate the step up in distance and wasn’t too bad fresh.

No3 INVENTION gets the tongue tie on here, and that should bring some improvement up in distance.

No6 BELLE OF PORTUGAL should appreciate the drop in “grade” from a midweeker to Saturday maiden.

R5 – 4.49pm. Newcastle Equine Centre Maiden Plate - 1850m.

No4 APACHE JUNCTION found the line well last start in a solid enough maiden. The step up in distance looks to suit here.

No3 STATELY BOY was solid enough in an open handicap last start and drops back in grade now, and should run well.

No2 KENNINGHALL has been going well enough this time in and should appreciate the step up to 1850m.

No8 SHE’S DEMANDING didn’t get the best of rides last start at Canberra, the step up in trip here suits.

R6 – 5.29pm. Andor Information Technology F&M Class 2 Handicap - 1200m.

No4 GRASSLANDS (NEXT BEST BET) (with the assumption Problem Solver runs at Rosehill) won well fresh at Gosford in very good style, second-up at home she looks hard to beat here with added fitness, and very good form around her.

No1 PROBLEM SOLVER also in at Rosehill, won well at the Gold Coast in the rich maiden and should come on.

No6 LONGCHAMP LASS has been good in all runs this time in and gets a good claim down to 51kg.

No3 PARIS FOR ME drops back in grade here after pulling up with issues last start. The trial coming into this was good.

R7 – 6.05pm. Tyrrell’s Wines Maiden Handicap - 1200m.

No3 CAPPAMORE has been trialing well enough coming into this fresh run, the form out of the first prep is good enough here.

No1 ANGEL’S BOY should be much fitter second-up from a spell here, and we need to respect the SP profile he has.

No4 JOY FOR US comes out of a good race last start and should run well again here.

No2 BEHOLD THE QUEEN was good enough on debut, and should improve from that run.

R8 – 6.45pm. Prosperity Advisers Group Benchmark 71 Handicap - 1400m.

No7 TURNBERRY comes out some good form races in the first preparation. He has been trialing well leading into this and looks hard to beat.

No10 OAKFIELD TWILIGHT won well last start and comes through some good form lines, to run well enough out of maiden grade.

No1 FRATELLINO has been going quite well this time in and has a good record at the home track, and should run well again.

No6 AUERBACH closed off well last start, and should run well again here.
