Rosehill for our Saturday meeting in Sydney, and can you smell it? No The Rock isn’t here, but it is autumn that is on the horizon. We see the Golden Slipper favourite in Performer go around early in the day and it’s exciting to see him back. Later on we have two Group 1 three-year-old colts taking on the older horses in the Expressway – but it’s the Non Group 1-winning, lowest rating three-year-old we want to be with. Outside of that we have some very good racing on offer. Rail out 3m the entire and track good.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 5,9 - 8 - 3,4,7 - 12
Wide Play: 3,5,9 - 5,6,8 - 1,3,4,7 - 7,8,11,12
BEST BET: R7 – 8. ADDICTIVE NATURE
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. PERFORMER
Best Roughie: R3 – 8. IMPETUOSO
No7 CHARLAYNE won in very good style on debut when getting the job done at Canterbury. I loved the way she ran through the line there when Bowman asked her to go, and she looked to have a lot of upside. McEvoy goes on board here from gate 1, she will just need some luck to be in the finish.
No8 PROBLEM SOLVER was a strong winner when getting the job done in the Magic Millions maiden. They ran some really good time there, and the form has already held up out of that. Back to the home track here, she should run well.
No6 VILLA CARLOTTA resumes here and her spring preparation was aborted after one start for Lees. She has had the two trials coming into this preparation and has looked quite well in both of those trials. She may well be better over further but she will be finding the line.
No5 SHEIKHA is another who resumes here, and had the one run in the spring behind Shoals in the Atlantic Jewel, she just didn’t seem to get around the Valley at all, so I am happy to forgive that effort. She will more than likely take up the running, and has trialled well.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 VILLA CARLOTTA
No1 PERFORMER (NEXT BEST BET) is the equal fav for the Slipper and will be the outright fav for the race after this. He was a brilliant winner of the Breeders Stakes on debut in what has been the best rating 2YO race in Sydney this season. He has trialled up in fantastic order coming into this, I like how Waller has him back now so he can time his preparation out to peak on Slipper day.
No4 EXCELTIC is the exacta horse here and has been trialing up in good order coming into the debut run, he will give the fav backers a scare here.
No5 STRATOSPHERE has been improving with each trial coming into the debut run here, brilliantly bred son of Snitzel who will run well.
No2 DIO D’ORO is also in on Friday night, the debut run was quite good.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 EXCELTIC
No2 FIESTA was very good on debut in the Gimcrack when not having a lot of luck when she needed it, before running into Legislation at start two. The two trials coming into this have been quite good and with the blinkers on for the fresh run shows some serious intent.
No8 IMPETUOSO (BEST ROUGHIE) didn’t have a lot of room on debut in the Gimcrack when finishing behind Fiesta, the form out of that race has already been quite good with Setsuna winning twice and Meryl winning. The trials coming in have been good.
No7 BOLD ARIAL missed the kick on debut and it was all over there in the Gimcrack. She then had no luck at all in the straight, the trial coming into this has been quite good and from gate 2 with the blinkers on, she will go to the front being from the Gai stable, and give them something to catch.
No12 I’M SO SWEET is a very well bred daughter of I Am Invincible, who has been trialing up in good style leading into the debut run here. She gets the winkers on for the debut run, and gets a soft run on the map from barrier 1 for Avdulla and has her chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 IMPETUOSO
No7 FLOW has been going about his business quite well this time in and got the job done when well backed last start. He steps up to the 1500m here and it looks as if it will suit, he gets a good run on the map here from gate 2 and looks hard to beat again.
No4 CELLARMAN comes back the 100m here to the 1500m and that shouldn’t be an issue at all given his form this time in. Shinn gets on with him quite well, and at his home track he is going to be hard to beat and he should be on the favs back at all stages.
No2 LIAPARI finds a race with much more speed in it than he has been running in this time in. This doesn’t look to be the 'sit and sprint' affair that he has run into at his past two and at his home track has his chance.
No5 KING DARCI looks to be the likely leader here and with King aboard should be rated to perfection here, given her form as of late. This horse is at his best when he gets his own way in front and looks to have a chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 LIAPARI
No12 KOPI LUWAK will be just winning this race with even luck from barrier 1 here. He has been brilliantly placed by Williams to get a 5.5kg weight swing on Acquittal here. He savaged the line when he got clear running last start, but the bird had flown by then. He sits closer from barrier 1 here and should be too good for them.
No13 ACQUITTAL broke the maiden last start when winning the Highway and did a very good job there, given a great ride from Ford to win. He was strong through the line and looked to have worked out all of his quirks finally. Now the penny has dropped, he can run well again.
No7 MATE STORY will roll along in front of them from the gate here with JVO on board who claims right down in the weights here. Now that he has had the three runs back, he should be at peak fitness.
No4 MISTER MARMALADE should be much better suited at the 1500m here rather than the 1300m he was fresh, he has always been a horse who likes to get over ground. With Collett on board, I expect him to go back and have last shot at them.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 MATE STORY
No9 BYE SEE dragged them up last start and fell just short. She gets a good run on the map here just in behind the speed and has come back a better mare this time in, and looks to be hard to beat.
No5 TAHSIN has been very good at winning the last two starts in very good fashion, and gets in at a good weight here after the claim. From the gate he jumps and runs them along here, as he has done at his most recent starts and looks hard to beat.
No3 SIZZLING BULLET has a very good second-up record at winning both starts and looks to be getting ready to peak here, he found the line quite well fresh and the step up to the 1500m here is more than suitable and he gets a good run for Glyn.
No4 QUICK DEFENCE found the line well fresh behind Flow last start and should be much better suited up to the 1500m here. I like how Avdulla stays on board here, as he will be able to lift him when he needs to. He is a winner at this track before.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 SIZZLING BULLETT
No8 ADDICTIVE NATURE (BEST BET) has come back in brilliant fashion this time in, with two brilliant trials and he looks to have come back a better horse and, although he is well out of the handicap here, he looks to be a Group 1 horse in the making. The form around him is extremely good, and I love this as a kickoff point here on his way through to better races, such as the Randwick Guineas and Doncaster potentially.
No6 GOODFELLA was fantastic up on the Gold Coast when second to Pierata, he comes back to the 1200m here which shouldn’t be an issue at all, as he has rock hard fitness on his side here and has his chance.
No5 TRAPEZE ARTIST got tongues wagging with his effort in his trial in front of Winx in the lead up here. He won the Golden Rose in brilliant order in Spring at this track. He is a winner fresh in the past and has his chance.
No2 GLOBAL GLAMOUR endured a tough run last start at the Gold Coast when on a hot speed. Few gear changes here, and she should improve second-up.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 GOODFELLA
No3 VAUCLUSE BAY gets one last chance for me here, he has been bursting to win a race this time in and has always seemed to find one who is that touch better. Shinn has some work to do from gate 10, but he can get across into a good spot if he so desires, and if so he is hard to beat.
No7 HIGH OPINION got too far back last start in a race when he finished behind Vaucluse Bay last start. From gate 5 he can settle a touch closer in the run, and he should be hard to beat here.
No4 HUNTER JACK has been going well enough as of late, and should appreciate the step up in distance now that he is rock hard fit. Hyeronimus gets along with him quite well and is Martin’s go to man when it comes for horses to peak.
No1 GAMBLESTOWN has a solid record at Rosehill and would be much happier here than he is at Randwick, he is going quite well and no shock to see him win a race.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 GAMBLESTOWN
No12 KAONIC resumes here and looks to be every bit of a group one horse in the making, he won two of his three races and kept on improving with each run. He was going to start $2.50 in the Carbine Club before Waller elected to scratch him. He has come back in good order going off the trials and he looks hard to beat.
No8 DON’T GIVE A DAMN is my early pick for the country championships and kicks off his campaign here. He won three of his four starts last time in, the last two in super strong fashion in highway races. He will roll forward here, and if he gets am easy time in front, he will give a big kick.
No7 WILD HEART comes well back in grade here after a solid enough run in the Magic Millions Guineas where he got too far back. Prior to that he was a big winner of the Wyong lead up race. Third up he looks set to go here.
No11 KAWAIKINI won well last start at Randwick when knuckling down late to get the job done, this looks to be much harder. But she is in quite good form and brings solid form prior to that, with that Sugar Bella form she has her chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 KAWAIKINI
