Thu, 15 Feb, 12:00 AM

Randwick for Apollo Stakes day here and what a day of racing we have on the card here, black type racing everywhere you look. We are also graced by the presence of Winx who is having a special track gallop between races. Weather brilliant as usual and the track will be good with the rail true.

QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)

Skinny Play:  2,3,4  -  5,10  -  2,3  -  2,5

Wide Play:  2,3,4,6,7,9  -  2,5,8,10  -  1,2,3,6,10,11  -  2,5,8,9,13

Next Best Bet: R1 – 1. MATE STORY

Best Roughie: R6 – 4. STAMPEDE

R1 – 12.45pm. TAB Highway Handicap - 1800m

No1 MATE STORY (NEXT BEST BET) should be too good for this lot coming off the last-start win, where he served it up to Acquittal and kept running, and was strong through the line there. No issue at all with the step up to 1800m, and on his figures the opposition cannot keep up with him, plus he claims down to 57.5kg.

No5 LADY GUISSEL should appreciate a softer tempo here as well as going up in distance to the 1800m.

No3 SO IT IS found the line well enough in the same race last start and gets a soft run from barrier 1.

No2 CLIFF is a horse who has always appreciated the longer distances and gets out to the 1800m for the first time this prep.

R2 – 1.25pm. The Luxury Network Pierro Plate - 1100m.

No2 LEGEND OF CONDOR was a big winner on debut on Everest Day, there was a good spruik for him before the debut run and he ran some very solid figures that day, he has trialled in good order coming into this and looks hard to beat.

No4 SANTOS comes through the same form line as Legend Of Condor in the first prep and had, had enough when they met. The two trials coming into this have been quite good and you go back to his Breeders plate run where he was quite strong, in what is the best 2yo race this season.

No5 EXCELTIC wasn’t at all suited by the small field and slow pace on debut, he is a better horse than that and now that he has had that race experience I think we will see the horse that we saw at the trials and he has his chance.

No6 TOULOUSE looks to be a Sires / Champagne type and resumes here off the back of a good debut run, where he was strong through the line, the trial coming into this was quite good and he should be respected.

R3 – 2.00pm. Fairfax & Roberts Jewellers Handicap - 2000m.

No1 EMPEROR’S WAY is a horse on the way up here who should keep his winning ways going, he came from well off them last start and was super strong through the line. He now steps to 2000m which suits now, who knows how far he can go this time in, as he is horse on the way up in what doesn’t look a super strong staying crop.

No2 SIZZLING BULLET didn’t have the best of luck last start, he steps up to the 2000m which is much more suitable and from gate 4, he gets a soft run of it and has his chance.

No8 HIGH OPINION won well last start and there was never a moment of worry for his backers as he flogged them in the end. Staying at 2000m is perfect and he should roll forward and be on the speed again for Clark.

No5 MORE ENERGY has been going well this time in and should be fit enough now and ready to strike. He was good through the line last start in a race which wasn’t run to suit him. He can settle closer from gate 6.

R4 – 3.10pm ACJC Southern Cross Stakes - 1200m.

No2 DEPLOY (BEST BET) should be making a mess of this lot here, given he is a quality sprinter who has come back in good order, while we have question marks over a lot of the other horses in this field. He took all before him last time in, running sizzling time and breaking a track record or two before taking on the big boys in the Everest where he didn’t have much luck. He looks to have come back in good order after the trials and should be winning.

No1 CLEARLY INNOCENT isn’t a known first-up horse, but resumes here and was ok enough last preparation in some very good races. Maybe a race like the All Aged is on his agenda.

No6 KAEPERNICK was solid enough last start in the Magic Millions sprint, a worry for me is a lot of the horses from that day have since failed. The trial was good however.

No7 BIG MONEY is back off a freshen up and I think he won this race in the past, on his day he is a good enough horse.

R5 – 3.45pm. DeRucci Handicap -1600m.

No4 MALAISE comes back to Sydney here after some solid enough runs in Melbourne, he didn’t have much luck at his last effort. He comes back to what is an average enough race here and has some very good form and upside, unlike some of these.

No1 KING DARCI should go to the front here and run them along, which gives him his best chance of winning a race, the claim down to 59kgs here, from gate 10 he is able to roll across at his own leisure and be hard to catch.

No9 PROMETHEUS gets a super soft run of it from barrier 1 here, and has come back a better horse this time in. He has been attacking the line and didn’t have the best of luck last start when closing off. We have seen the form hold up well already.

No2 PELETHRONIUS should appreciate getting out to the mile here, and has been solid enough in both runs this time in. He goes quite well for Angland, and he is a winner on the horse at this track and distance in the past.

R6 – 4.40pm. Ranvet Handicap - 2400m.

No3 ENDLESS DRAMA was fantastic when first-up off a long break, and looked to blow out late fitness wise there. He can only improve off that run, this time last year he was third in this race to Winx and Hartnell. There is no Winx and Hartnell here.

No4 STAMPEDE (BEST ROUGHIE) resumes here and has put together a very good record together over his short career. He has been trialing up quite well coming into this and looks set to go first-up from a spell, if he gets his own way in front good luck catching him.

No2 PRIZED ICON was fantastic in his first run for the new stable and really ran through the line well there. He meets all of his opposition from that day, much better at the weights due to the WFA scale here. He gets a soft run behind them on the map and has his chance.

No6 COMIN’ THROUGH has trialled up in very good order coming into this prep, he won his first two races last time in, before being slaughtered at his next two. He has been gelded coming into this and gets the blinkers on, he is ready to go fresh.

R7 – 5.05pm. Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes - 1200m.

No5 RAIMENT has trialled up in solid enough order coming into the fresh run here. This time last year she was a big winner fresh over 1200m, she looks to have come back better this time in and this could be the prep that she really explodes.

No10 FARAWAY TOWN looks to be suited to this than the race she was entered in last week at Warwick Farm. She come back to the scene of the crime where she won in brilliant fashion last start. The month between runs, will suit her much better here and she looks well placed.

No2 ECKSTEIN was just beaten in the last stride on the Gold Coast, capping off an unlucky 12 months for her. She hasn’t won in over a year, but has had no luck whatsoever, so it isn’t a case of her not wanting to win. If the breaks fall her way, she can win.

No8 MY COUNTRY comes out of that same race as Eckstein last start and closed off well there. She comes back to her home track off that freshen up and looks to be well placed here, she is a horse who goes well for Winona and should be respected.

R8 – 5.45pm. TAB Light Fingers Stakes - 1200m.

No3 ALIZEE has trialled up in brilliant fashion coming into this, and this prep she may well show us that she is the champion 3yo of her generation. We all saw how good that trial was ahead of Winx two weeks ago. She is brilliantly placed here and should be too strong for them.

No2 MELODY BELLE flogged them in NZ last start in very strong order, I have no idea who she beat there. But she looked quite strong and dominant. She comes across to Sydney now off the back of that and does look to be well placed.

No11 CHARLAYNE looks to be a group class filly in the making and that was shown by her two wins in her first two starts this time in. I feel as if in time she will be a miler, but Waller has been very upbeat about this horse and we need to respect that.

No6 SASSO CORBARO comes back in distance here after a good enough effort in the Gold Coast Magic Millions, where she didn’t have much luck there. She was a strong winner at this track two starts back and gets a good run behind the speed here.

R9 – 6.20pm. Mostyn Copper Group Handicap - 1200m.

No2 OSBORNE BULLS has trialled up in good order coming into the fresh run, in his first prep he took all before him winning four of his five starts. His 1200m record is brilliant, and from gate 8 he doesn’t have much of an issue in the run form the Randwick 1200m start.

No5 PICK ME UP should have won fresh last time in over this track and distance when really well backed, he will be prepped up for this after the freshen up of eight weeks, no trial as per usual and we will have to watch the betting and respect T Martin.

No8 SUNCRAZE looks to be on his way to the Country Championships and can get away with a win here, as that will not take him out of contention. He looks to have trialled in brilliant order and Brown has been able to work him out, he can win.

No9 REACH FOR HEAVEN drifted non stop in the market last start and wasn’t at all suited by the track bias on the night there. Getting back to Randwick is much more suitable, and from the gate Collett can go back and find some cover and come at them with one run.
