Betting tips for every race at Port Macquarie. Today’s best bet is in race 2.

Sat, 17 Feb, 12:41 AM

Port Macquarie for a showcase meeting this Sunday in the Northern Rivers region, and the first country championships qualifier, where we see two of the horses high up in “all in” betting contest the race, being the Jenny Graham pair of Victorem and Awesome Pluck. Outside of that we have some good racing throughout the day.

QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny Play:  4,7  -  2,7  -  1,4,5  -  1,4

Wide Play:  2,4,7,9  -  2,4,7,10  -  1,2,4,5  -  1,4,7,8

Next Best Bet: R1 – 1. SHOREDTICH

Best Roughie: R3 – 2. DOURO

R1 – 12.50pm. John Oxley Motors 3YO Maiden Showcase Handicap - 1100m.

No1 SHOREDITCH (NEXT BEST BET) was very good on debut when running right through the line two weeks ago, up to the 1100m helps here.

No2 DAYBREAKER was average in all three Sydney trials and now kicks off the career for a new trainer with no trial. Watch the betting.

No4 COULD I BE comes out of an ok enough race last start at Wyong and this is a big drop in grade.

No5 DAY STAR has been trialing well enough coming in and gets a soft run on the map here from gate 2.

R2 – 1.30pm. Prime7 4yo+ Maiden Showcase Handicap - 1100m.

No1 NEWSFAN (BEST BET) comes out of the best form in the first preparation after two very good runs at the provincials against some nice horses. The trial coming into this was quite good, and he looks to be well set up for a fresh kill here with the good prizemoney on offer.

No5 NATURAL IMAGE has been going well enough this time in and looks a place chance again.

No4 DREAMY DRAGON was good enough fresh and can improve second-up.

No2 SAINT DENIS gets a quiet run on the map here and has a strong SP profile.

R3 – 2.05pm. De Bortoli Wines Benchmark 60 Showcase Handicap - 1500m.

No4 MANHATTAN ROAD won well enough last start, he gets a good run on the map here and claims well.

No2 DOURO (BEST ROUGHIE) had no luck at all last start, step to 1500m suits and he actually beat Lanciato in a past life!

No3 FOREVER ALONE has been going well enough this time in and is suited in this grade.

No1 WEWONYA gets a good claim here and this is his right grade in a tricky race.

R4 – 2.40pm. TAB.com.au Country Maiden Showcase Plate - 1500m.

No6 WALLAMAN was a touch disappointing last start, maybe it was the distance. But I need to give him another chance.

No7 ARLOARLO has been going quite well this time in, with two placings and should run well.

No12 TRUSTABLE can improve quickly here up in distance at start two.

No5 WOLFRAM was good through the line last start and should run well.

R5 – 3.15pm. Panthers Port Macquarie Benchmark 70 Showcase Handicap - 1800m.

No4 RAGE AGAINST has been brilliant at winning the last three, slightly back in distance is no issue at all.

No7 EXILIA MISS will be much better suited back to the 1800m here and has been in good form.

No9 ART ATTACK won well enough last start, this is a step up. But it was a strong win.

No2 BACKHOUSE BILLY has been going well enough in this grade as of late and should run well.

R6 – 4.00pm. Schweppes Country Class 2 Showcase Plate -1100m.

No7 MAJESTIC PEDRILLE resumes here and was behind Don’t Give A Damn last start who flogged them that day, trusting that form.

No2 GRIPPED comes back from highway level last start and gets a good run on the map from gate 2.

No10 GOLDEN COMET won very well on debut in slick time, gate of 14 is a touch sticky though.

No4 ROCKET MONKEY did a good enough job last start when winning, and has a good record.

R7 – 4.40pm. MNCRA Country Championships Qualifier - 1200m.

No1 PORTATORIO does everything right and gets RT on board from the wide gate, that does not worry me as the win last start was fantastic.

No5 VICTOREM is a good horse no doubt, but he does a lot wrong still, the form out of the last start has stood up, this will be a tough 1200m and he could well be underdone.

No4 AWESOME PLUCK won last start, but beat nothing he is a 1000m winner twice, and has failed at the other three runs. That’s a touch concerning.

No2 COGLIERE finds C Brown fresh, he was the winner of this race last year, but 1200m could be too short.

R8 – 5.15pm. Carlton Draught Benchmark 56 Showcase Handicap - 1100m.

No4 AQUA CHIMERA won the maiden in very good style last start and finds a winnable race here.

No1 JEMILY won in this grade last start and should sit just behind them here and try to pounce late.

No8 NO QUALM has been going very well this time in, he gets a soft run from the gate here and a handy claim for Weir.

No7 LOTS OF DIAMONDS was run off its feet last start over the 900m, back up to 1100m suits.
