Racing returns to Warrnambool after last racing here on February 8 for a twilight meeting with the first race to start at 4pm.
It is part of Racing Victoria’s new concept to race in the twilight hours during the week over the summer months. The days will be warm up until Thursday when showers are forecast. The mercury will plummet to a maximum of 25C. The track is rated as a Good 4 (Tuesday) and may deteriorate depending on how much rain there is. The False Rail will remain at the True Position for the meeting.
It does not appear an easy meeting to find winners and would suggest to stick to Victoria’s strongest stable Darren Weir who is saddling a good team of gallopers. His relative newcomer Snitch looks an up and coming runner and should be nice odds in the last race – the Swinton’s Furniture Handicap (1100m).
Tread warily and watch the weather.
QUADDIES (races 5,6,7,8)
Skinny Play: 2,5 – 1 – 2 - 9
Wide Play: 1,2,5,6 – 1,7,8 – 2,4,6 – 2,9,14
BEST BET: R8 – 9. SNITCH
Next Best Bet: R6 – 1. DIVINE SANCTION
Best Roughie: R1 – 5. IRISH DELIGHT
No3 HIGH ENERGY has the score on the board but is an interesting runner as he has been gelded during his three-week break. Was the $2.50 favourite when running third over 1700m maiden at Geelong on January 28. Respect.
No4 COUNTESS DELTA has been placed at three of her past four starts in the country. Had to work hard from out deep before running on steadily to run third over 1600m maiden at Bendigo on February 6. Good chance.
No5 IRISH DELIGHT (BEST ROUGHIE) gets a senior rider replacing a 3kg apprentice and ran a fair sixth over 1700m in stronger class here on February 7. She gets the experienced Daniel Moor and drops back to maiden class.
No9 MANGO DELIGHT gets a massive 10kg drop in weight to 56.5kg after running a solid third over 2047m here in a maiden on February 7. The drop in weight is a big bonus and should be on the speed throughout.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 MANGO DELIGHT
No10 OMOROSE looks set to get her chance to break through following a perilously close third over 1100m against 3F in a maiden here on February 7. She gets top jockey Linda Meech replacing Jack Hill and jumps from six.
No3 LAGERFELD made a great debut when after racing keenly ran a good second over 1100m maiden here on February 7. The colt was plunged into a $2.25 favourite, but was beaten 1.5 lengths after having a luckless run en route.
No6 LAKE LONI underlined she was on key for this race with a strong third over 1100m in a maiden at Ararat on February 8. The four-year-old mare again has an inside alley in four and has the pace to lead here.
No8 BELLA BOSS gets two critical gear changes with the tongue tie and the barrier blanket going on for the first time. Ran a good fourth over 1000m maiden at Warracknabeal at last start on September 2. Only raced twice and has upside.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 BELLA BOSS
No6 HOT SHOT HARRY has been placed at his past two country starts. Latest he ran a solid second after attempting to lead all of the way over 1209m in a maiden at Yarra Valley on January 27. Has been kept fresh.
No4 EVOLUTIONIST was making good ground but run petered out inside the last 50m when running third over 1400m maiden at Ballarat on February 9. Drew 12 that day and will jump from barrier one here so should get a softer outing.
No8 MANHATTAN ARCH at sole sighting gave a good effort to run a narrow second over 1100m maiden at Stawell on October 23. Was not fancied in the betting at $21 but gave a sterling performance to close strongly.
No2 AMERICAN STORM has a critical gear change with the blinkers going on for the first time. Last start he ran a close fifth over 1400m in a maiden at Sandown on February 7. If he repeats the run will be in the finish.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 AMERICAN STORM
No4 SILENCE THE STARS is resuming from a long spell but has shown some form in a race where there is a lot of unexposed form. Missed breaking maiden status in a head bobbing finish over 1400m maiden at Hamilton on June 11. Respect.
No9 DIXIE PREACHER was tramped three deep before finishing a solid fourth over 1400m maiden at Pakenham on February 8. That was his first start back from a 21-week spell and should strip fitter, but gate 11 is a drawback.
No8 CUNNING MOVES gets an important gear change with the blinkers going on for the first time. Last start chased steadily the whole straight when running fourth over 1200m maiden at Kyneton on February 3. This is not a strong race.
No5 THREE POINT GENIUS is having his first start for new trainer Simon Wilde and will sport winkers for the first time. He resumes from a 28-week spell and has been placed twice at his five starts so has some ability.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 THREE POINT GENIUS
No5 SKILLED HUNTER was a brilliant winner over 2200m at Hamilton three starts ago on January 12. Chased hard to run a close fifth over 2400m here on February 7. Drops 10kg to 61kg today - so a massive drop in weight. Respect.
No2 FINE EMBERS gets ace jockey Damian Lane to ride which is a bonus. Last start was unwanted in the betting at $31 when he gave a slashing run to finish second over 2300m at Ballarat on February 13. He is on the quick back up.
No1 ALL WELL loves this track with three starts for two wins. Was a $4.20 favourite when showing his rivals a clean set of plates over 2400m here on February 7. He plummets 9.5kg to 60.5kg today in weight with the aid of the 1.5kg claim.
No6 CENTENARY SHOT is a staying bred gelding who was making good headway when running fifth over 2400m at Morphettville on February 14. The five-year-old is on a quick back up but he is rock hardened for this.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 CENTENARY SHOT
No1 DIVINE SANCTION (NEXT BEST BET) would draw a line through his last start when he pulled up with a poor respiratory recovery when running last over 1800m at Morphettville on February 3. Back to the bush and only goes up a kilo to 61kg. Leading trainer Darren Weir has booked top Irish rider John Allen to guide at the five-year-old’s debut here. His prior form at Warwick Farm and Randwick rate him strongly here.
No8 TWO HATS gets the 3kg claim to reduce his weight to a comfortable 54.5kg and has been most honest.
No4 PURRFECT TRICK was a narrow winner in a three-way photo at Colac last start. Can’t ignore here.
No7 AUTUMN SUNSET was placed at sole start at this track and gets top rider Linda Meech to pillion.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 AUTUMN SUNSET
No2 ALONG CAME JONES collected two straight wins at Hamilton and Terang before running a solid third over 1200m at Ararat on February 8. Did have excuses that day when he was held up on the rail. With gate 11 should not have that issue.
No6 DEECEMBER has won and finished inside the money at four of past five starts. Latest ran a close third over 1200m at Terang on January 31. Top jockey Damian Lane takes the reins today and makes good appeal.
No4 LET’S GO TO RIO will be sporting winkers for the first time after his sixth over 1400m at Ballarat on February 6. He led that day but was headed and fought on okay to be beaten 4.1 lengths. He drops a half-kilo today to 59kg. Each-way.
No8 BLACK MOSHEEN has the blinkers going back on. Gave a strong effort to run a close third over 1200m here on February 7. He won his maiden over 1100m at Stawell three starts ago and he drops 2kg on his last start to 58kg here.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 LET’S GO TO RIO
No9 SNITCH (BEST BET) is a three-year-old who showed plenty of ability to run away with a 1.5 length win in an 1100m maiden here on February 7. Top jockey Dean Yendall keeps the ride and he goes up only a half kilo to 58.5kg today. Connections have an opinion of the gelding running him in the Group 2 Todman (1200m) last campaign at Randwick. This is only his fifth career start and has plenty of room for improvement.
No14 ABERS SOLUTELY is a reliable second string to Snitch for the leading stable of trainer Darren Weir.
No16 SEA OF STARS won her maiden over 1100m at Horsham three starts ago. Has been most consistent.
No3 WRITTEN ATTRACTION gets top apprentice Stephanie Thornton to ride but she has no claim to use. Goes well fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 WRITTEN ATTRACTION
