Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 4.

Thu, 1 Mar, 11:04 AM

Doomben was drenched by more than 180mm of rain in the past week and it will be on at best the soft side on Saturday. As we said last week (before the washout of the meeting) betting at Doomben has become something of a minefield. With storms and the hot weather track conditions can change rapidly during the afternoon. As we also said, there are up to 40 scratchings a day, even on good tracks. But there is still plenty of value in the meetings with 11 races.

QUADDIES (races 8-9-10-11)

Skinny Play:  6,7/2,6/9/2,3,5

Wide Play: 2,6,7,9,10/1,2,3,6,11/4,5,8,9/2,3,5,10

Next Best Bet: R10 – 9. BERGERAC

Best Roughie: R6 – 8. VAULTING AMBITIO

R1 - 11.05am. Laser Clinics Toombul Benchmark 90 Handicap - 2040m.

No4 EXOTERIC (BEST BET) These horses will get first use of the track which will chop up. Good winner two runs back at the Gold Coast and then no luck when unplaced last start.

No2 MORENDI Strong winner this track in open company last start. Can get too far back in his races on occasions but has a strong finish.

No1 SLOW PACE Veteran galloper who has been well beaten in Sydney past two starts. This is much easier.

No6 FIRST CRUSH Out to the right distance here and a good winner at big odds two runs back this track. Might lead these.

R2 - 11.40am. G. H. Mumm Class 3 Plate - 2040m.

No7 MONACO SNOB Dour stayer who won at Ipswich and then good second at the Sunshine Coast last time. Will be in the finish here.

No3 DAVOR Good second at the Gold Coast last start and not far away at past three runs. Each-way here.

No10 STAR ECHO An enigma who can fly home in the right race. Fourth last start over 2200m at the Sunshine Coast but in the wrong part of the track much of the way.

No1 ANSWERED Has been plugging away at the provincials and racing well enough. Handles all type of tracks and this distance suits.

R3 - 12.12pm. Sapphire Recruitment Benchmark 70 Handicap - 1110m.

No7 I'VE GOTTA NEL Has been racing well in better company with a last-start third behind an extra smart horse here last time. Drawn very well here.

No10 PRUE'S ANGEL Beaten into second in a deceptive photo finish this track last start. Has a good barrier and hard to beat.

No16 WIGGLESWORTH Has been racing without much luck and a good third this track last time gives him a hope.

No1 MY LITTLE FLICKA Resuming here but can race well fresh and we liked her recent trial win at Deagon. Good value here from inside barrier.

R4 - 12.47pm. Winning Edge Presentations QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap - 1200m.

No9 RED STINA flew home to be beaten by a nose at this track last start. Fitter now and hard to beat.

No5 PLUMARO Won by a huge margin at Toowoomba and then got home quickly late when second this track. Extra distance here helps.

No1 ONLY WANNA SING Trialled very well before first-up win this track when green in the straight. Can win again.

No6 SPIRIT OF CHEROKEE Trialled well since last start when put in two hops after the start and ended up an unlucky third. Go well despite poor barrier.

R5 - 1.22pm. Stav, Abby and Matt Fillies & Mares Benchmark 80 Handicap - 1350m.

No2 CLOCKWORK ORANGE Got decked 100m from the line when fourth this track last start and should have won. Won her two previous starts.

No7 JADENTOM In-form mare who was second in a three way photo last start. Has been racing very well.

No5 KOPITE Has been racing well in Sydney and New South Wales country areas. Should have nearly won at Canterbury last start and that is good enough to win this.

No1 DON'T TELL MAMA Minor placed past three starts and has had no luck in any of them. Overdue for a win.

R6 - 2.02pm. Sky Racing Tattersall's Members' Cup - 1640m.

No2 BRAZEN MOSS Strong win this track and distance last start and loves wet tracks. Up in the weights but still a major player here.

No7 GLENDARA Second this track and distance last start after travelling very deep the whole way. Stays down in the weighs and a good hope here.

No8 VAULTING AMBITION (BEST ROUGHIE) Good win in restricted class last start and getting back to his best form. Definite each-way hope here.

No1 HONEY TOAST Former top class stayer coming back from injury. Handy effort first up and ready to race well.

R7 - 2.42pm. William Patrick Clarke Memorial No Metro Wins Handicap - 1200m.

No5 TVERSKY Won two in a row before getting in wrong part of the track when third at the Sunshine Coast. Just needs some luck from the barrier to win.

No7 AMENZEL Has been in brilliant form at the Gold Coast with wins past three starts. Ready to step up to city class now.

No2 WELL SIGHTED Has won his past four starts at the provincial tracks and ready to race well in city class with a 2kgs claim.

No3 PINYARDA Has been racing very well in north Queensland with wins two of past three starts. Looks like he will be up to city class.

R8 - 3.22pm. Carlton Mid Class 6 Plate - 1200m.

No11 QUICK KETCH Good winner here two runs back and then had no luck when close up fifth last time. Has trialled nicely since.

No9 MR MARBELLOUZ Made it four wins from five starts last time with a seven lengths win this track. Has failed only try at 1200m but a lot more mature now.

No10 OINK Wants further than 1200m now but no luck at all last start when third by two noses in a similar race this track

No1 BROTHERLY SECRET Resuming here but caught the eye with a win in a recent strong Doomben trial. Has a good first-up record.

R9 - 4.02pm. Tattersall's Young Members Open Hcp - 1200m.

No11 HANWRITTEN Stepping up to open company here after a brilliant all the way win this track last start. Hard to beat in this line-up.

No3 FORTENSKY Scored an outstanding win when came from last this track to win over 1350m. No reason he can't drop back in distance.

No2 UPSTART PRIDE This is the weakest race he has contested for some time and suited here after recent solid trial in Toowoomba.

No6 MALVERN ESTATE Has won past four starts in a row including latest when overcame difficulties to win this track and distance. Suited again here.

R10 - 4.37pm. UBET Colts, Geldings & Entires Benchmark 80 Handicap - 1350m.

No9 BERGERAC (NEXT BEST BET) Has been racing well at the Sunshine Coast with strong wins there past two starts. Only worry here is the smaller track but he is very promising.

No4 CORNROW Good winner here last start and looked as though there was still improvement in him. Go well again here.

No5 ALL SUMMER LONG Newcastle galloper who won that track last start. Has been racing well in New South Wales country areas.

No8 COURTZA KING Has been up for a while this campaign but racing well enough. Last start was a close up fourth in a similar race to this.

R11 - 5.15pm. IPG Marketing Solutions QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap - 1110m.

No3 JOHNNY WHITESOX Promising and good first-up win at Ipswich was followed by a strong second this track.

No2 SETOGA Stormed home from a mile back to win this track last start and will be hard to hold out again.

No5 SHE'S OUR STAR Very fast filly who will be fitter for first-up fifth this track when led and stopped last 100m.

No10 SKATE TO PARIS Got home well to be just behind the placegetters this track last start. Fitter now.
