Today’s sees the running of the time-honoured Lord Reims Stakes at Morphettville.
The Lord Reims (2600m) is the traditional lead up feature into the prestigious Adelaide Cup (3200m).
Trainer Darren Weir has dominated staying events in Adelaide over recent times and he again saddles a most dour type in Master Of Arts in the Group 3 feature. Weir gave Master Of Arts a nice tune up for the assault with a trial over the hurdles over 2400m at Cranbourne on February 23.
It was a nice pipe-opener for the New Zealand expatriate, who coasted to a three length win in the field of six. He strikes only nine in opposition today and looks nicely weighted on 57kg. Accomplished Victorian jockey Jamie Motts crosses the border to ride.

No3 COLUMN is a British import who scored a great win over 2000m at Colac on February 11. The Victorian stayer will have Jack Martin’s 3kg claim to carry only 55.5kg today. That is 2kg less than he carried to win.

No5 MURPHY’S REWARD is resuming from a six-week break and was a winner at Moonee Valley last campaign. Gives Team Hayes a strong hand here aided by Sullivan Bay. Hayes has booked Adelaide’s premier rider Jamie Kah to steer.
No2 SULLIVAN BAY with apprentice Fred Kersley’s 2kg claim will have his weight reduced to 55kg. He will be fresh having his last start three weeks ago when running a strong fourth over 1000m here on February 10.
No1 RIZIZ with the 3kg claim of apprentice Justin Huxtable will carry 56kg. Can redeem himself on his last start disappointing seventh over1200m here on February 17. This is his third start back from a spell and is now fit.
No6 OLIVIERE is from the leading yard of Darren Weir and will be fresh following his close fifth over 1000m here on February 10. Weir has replaced an apprentice with senior rider Harry Coffey and he only rise a half-kilo to 54.5kg.

No1 VIENNESE STAR is also entered for Flemington today. If she runs here will be hard to beat on her debut effort when showing plenty of courage to win in a nail-biting conclusion over 1000m at Moonee Valley on February 2.
No3 BLACK CHAMPAGNE is from the State’s premier stable and he kicked off his career on the highest note with a brilliant win over a 900m maiden at Murray Bridge on February 7. Had a few issues during running but overcame.
No8 YULONG STAR is from the stable of Tony McEvoy and is the stablemate to Black Champagne. Gets top rider Jamie Kah to guide at debut after scoring an imposing win in an 800m trial at Cranbourne on February 19.
No2 DOWNLOADS gets a big drop in class today on his only two starts when pitched against the best Melbourne two-year-olds in the Blue Diamond Preview and Prelude at Caulfield, where he ran well. The blinkers go on today.

No1 MONDO MAGIC will be trying to keep intact a winning streak here when going for a third straight win today. Raquel Clark gets the ride to reduce his impost down to 57.5kg – which is a kilo less than he carried last win.
No2 TYCOON DANCER has been gelded and the winkers are off for his return to racing. Exhibited great speed to win a trial over 800m at Wodonga on February 13. Did the job with ease and is the danger.
No3 BOLEK has won at past two starts and collected two wins from career three starts. Resumes here from a four-week break after winning well over 1200m at Ballarat on January 30. Jamie Kah rides.
No4 INSTITUTION comes into this race off a strong win over 1000m here on January 27. That was his maiden win but heavily backed into a $1.65 favourite. With the 3kg claim carries only 53kg.

No8 SWISS DESIGN will be fighting fresh for this after resuming from a six-week break. Apprentice Chris Caserta’s 2kg claim reduces his weight to a comfortable 54kg – which is 2kg less than he carried to win here three starts ago.
No6 VICKI’S BOY was freshened up following his sixth over 1250m here on January 20. The five-year-old gets top jockey Jason Holder to ride and his prior form over the short-course was rock solid.
No4 HENNING has won twice and finished in the placings at his past five starts. The Victorian sprinter had to dig deep to win over 1000m at Pakenham last start on February 8. He drops a half-kilo to 58.5kg.
No3 EVIL DREAMS has the tongue tie coming off at his return to racing from a 22-week spell. Goes well fresh with a record of a win and two seconds at five starts and with the 2kg claim of Victor Wong will carry 57kg.

No2 MASTER OF ARTS (BEST BET) with the polish of crack trainer Darren Weir looks most hard to beat here in the lead up to the Adelaide Cup. Weir gave the stallion a trial over 2400m at Warrnambool on February 23. He came through it glowing, winning by 3 lengths with another 2lens back to the third horse. He drops 3kg to 57kg on his last start seventh over 2500m at Moonee Valley on February 16.
No9 ETAH JAMES scored a hat-trick of great wins before being placed second and fifth at past two Melbourne starts.
No3 EXALTED LIGHTNING ran home strong at the end of 2035m here last start. Expect to be in the finish.
No4 JIM’S JOURNEY has been in the minor money at all of his past three starts. Respect.

No4 LUCKY FLIPPER (BEST ROUGHIE) has won at two of his past four starts at Murray Bridge and Strathalbyn. He ran a solid fourth over 1350m at Strahalbyn on February 4. With the break will be nice and fresh.

No13 SKILLFUL STEPS (NEXT BEST BET) is a three-year-old who has been smashing his opposition and is set to land a hat-trick today. He won by 3.2 lengths over 1600m here last start on February 10. Paul Gatt rode and he carried 56kg. Today Gatt keeps the ride and he drops to the limit on 54kg. He has plenty in the tank with four starts for two wins and a third.
No9 DAKTARI has won three of his seven races to date and makes good appeal on 53.5kg with the 2kg claim.
