Another Ipswich meeting with the usual type of fields which means we can usually find some value. The weather in south east Queensland has been so unpredictable it has added a bit of extra spice to betting here. But we have had some luck lately with value horses so let’s hope it continues with the rail out between five and nine metres. The track will be soft at best which usually means watch for a fast lane to develop, usually in the middle of the track.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 2,3,4,9/1,2,6,9/1,3,4,6/4,6,7,10
Wide Play: 2,9/1,2/1,3/4,6
BEST BET: R1 – 1. EPIC RANT
Next Best Bet: R2 – 2. DREAM MASTER
Best Roughie: R3 – 5. FAST AND HOPEFUL
No1 EPIC RANT (BEST BET) Looks lengths better than this field and was a strong Doomben winner last start. Looks a stayer of the future and if he gets beaten here it will be a shock.
No4 ROCK DANCER A maiden and is stepping up from 1400m to 1700m. But good run last time when fourth at the Sunshine Coast and looks a value hope here.
*SCRATCHED* No2 LET'S GO CHAMP Strong effort to win a maiden this track last start. Stablemate of the top weight and they could quinella this contest.
No3 PONYTALES Has been plugging away in short races and might be suited stepping up to 1700m here.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 ROCK DANCER
No2 DREAM MASTER (NEXT BEST BET) Won two races on end and then a very good second at Doomben behind a smart mare last time. Looks too good for this lot.
No3 PLAN RED Very hard to follow because he needs to get cover and not pull in his races. Not far away when fifth at Doomben last time in a harder race.
No1 JOHNNY BE QUICK Has won three races but placed 14 times in 21 starts. Handy second at Warwick last start and always an each-way hope.
No5 THUNDER ROCKER Promising and good second to end last campaign at Doomben. Fresh here but always a hope in these small fields.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 THUNDER ROCKER
No9 NOOKS AND CRANNIES Has been solid seconds in both her runs to date including latest at the Gold Coast. Scratched a few times of late but this looks ideal.
*SCRATCHED* No3 HOT GAMBLER Trialled nicely and then no luck when third in a Gold Coast 2yo first-up. This distance should suit.
No5 FAST AND HOPEFUL (BEST ROUGHIE) Got beaten nearly 10 lengths when second in a Gold Coast trial. But the winner is Golden Slipper bound and ran a second faster than the next best trial. So this one's effort was handy.
No10 ONWARD TO VICTORY Made her debut in a much harder race at Doomben when sixth and was far from disgraced. Has to be a good chance here.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 FAST AND HOPEFUL
No8 IT'S CHOUX TIME Not a bad run last time when fourth this track in a shorter race. Getting out to a suitable distance now.
No4 SUNDAYINMANHATTAN Well backed and lugged away for second at Coffs Harbour last time. A stayer on the rise and each-way here.
No1 ESCAPADO Has been minor placed four of past five starts in similar races including last start third at the Gold Coast. Just lack something at the finish but will win one day.
No9 KIRA'S BEAT No star but placed a couple of times these type of races of late and has some claims here at the weights in a weak race.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 KIRA'S BEAT
No2 BIG DAN THE MAN This is a hard race to line up but he has been honest his three runs with a third at the latest in Toowoomba. It is more than you can say for most here.
No3 MISSILE STRIKE Ran a terrific race in the Magic Millions maiden and then went back to Melbourne where he failed. But this is far easier now back in Queensland.
*SCRATCHED* No9 OUR NETBANK Well beaten first-up but improved out of sight for one run last campaign so is a chance here.
No4 HIGH CHIEF First starter but we liked his trail which he won at Doomben recently. Keep very safe here.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 HIGH CHIEF
No2 GRACEVILLE Hard to catch but showed she was getting back near her best with a third at the Sunshine Coast last start.
No1 TEEROYS TRIBUTE Showed a lot of potential last time in races in Toowoomba. Has very strong first-up form so rates highly here.
No9 OH BOY Another who has a few tricks but handy fourth this track last start and a wet track would help here.
No6 JEST EXCEL Mixes his form but back to his best with a Gold Coast win last time. Always a chance these type of races.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 OH BOY
No1 VIADUCTRESS She has raced well in much better company than this and the weight is the major worry. Strong second behind an in-form horse at the Gold Coast last time.
No4 SHORELINE Battled on for second at the Gold Coast last start and gradually building up to a win.
No6 FLEUR D'ORAGE As we often, say ignore dry track form as she is one of the best wet trackers around. The wetter the better for her but forget on a dry track.
*SCRATCHED* No3 SWEET SHAMROCK Handy third first-up at the Gold Coast and usually gets better with a few runs under his belt.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 SHORELINE
No4 DARK ELEMENT Looked a horse of the future when he won a maiden at Ballina last start. This harder but has talent.
No7 GOLDEN COMMAND Won a Gatton maiden last time and while this is harder the distance and track suit.
No6 SHUDA KNOWN BETTER Has been around for a while but showed best form of career when last start Toowoomba winner.
No10 USENA Plugging away in similar races at the provincial tracks without much luck. Will sneak a win in one of these soon.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 USENA
