Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 3.

Thu, 8 Mar, 11:04 AM

Doomben was drenched by rain again during the week receiving 68mm in one night. The racing surface does dry quickly but it has taken a pounding this summer. At least as we keep saying the race pattern is set with those on the pace suited early and backmarkers coming into their own late. It is a low key meeting but again there should be some value.

QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)

Skinny Play:  4,9/3,9/3,7/1,14

Wide Play:  3,4,6,9/3,7,9,10/1,3,4,7/1,3,5,14

Next Best Bet: R5 – 2. NICCANOVA

Best Roughie: R3 – 10. RHYMING

R1 - 12.17pm. Sky Throughbred Central Open hcp - 2200m.

SCRATCHED - No2 CARZOFF Good winner at Randwick two runs back and not disgraced when fifth at Rosehill last time. Looks ideally placed this small field.

No3 IRISH OPTIMISM Probably should have won this track when second last start and has had a barrier trial since. Go well again.

No1 MORENDI Better known as a backmarker but led most of the way to make it two wins on end this track last start. Up in distance but also in weight which is a worry.

No4 XEBEC Has run plenty of placings in similar races to this in Sydney but doesn't win often. Another who gets his chance.

R2 - 12.57pm. Sofitel Brisbane Two Year Old - 1350m

No5 MISS SARA Still a maiden but shouldn't be with four minor placings and last start close-up fourth in a far strong race from five starts. Gets her chance to win here.

No7 POETIC ATTACKS Trialled solidly before first-up fourth at the Gold Coast on a heavy track. Fitter now and has each-way claims.

No1 YOU KNOW THE ONE Good effort first-up when fourth this track. Stepping up in distance which will help.

No3 MYSTIC MIST Strong effort to win at the Gold Coast last time on a heavy track. Looks a genuine wet track horse and that can help here.

R3 - 1.32pm. Paddy Fest 2018 Class 6 Plate - 1600m.

No5 SAVWELL (BEST BET) Very promising horse who has won his past three starts at the provincials and midweeks in easy fashion. Stepping up to Saturday class but looks very hard to beat.

No7 AQUATIC Has won his past two starts in Sydney with the latest at Warwick Farm over 1600m. This looks an ideal race.

No10 RHYMING (BEST ROUGHIE) Strange to have a best bet and best roughie in the one race but if there is an upset in this race it could be Rhyming with no weight on her back and at big odds.

No2 CAUTHEN’S POWER Well beaten first-up at the Gold Coast but has trialled since and do have a very good second-up record.

R4 - 2.07pm. Thyme Restaurant Three-Year-Old - 1350m.

No1 HANG Promising staying type of horse who won three on end before a spell. Loves wet tracks and suited at 1350m first-up. Looks hard to beat.

No6 DON'T LEAVE ME OUT Was very heavily backed last start but finished second to a promising horse this track. This easier and can handle the wet.

No4 TROMMESCHLAGEN Has been consistent in city class without winning but good second this track last time and handles the wet.

No5 LETS GET NAUTI GAL Newcastle filly who was racing well in NSW provincial areas before last start Sydney failure when where had little luck. Likes soft tracks and suited here.

R5 - 2.47pm. Hamilton Hotel Open - 1350m.

No2 NICCANOVA (NEXT BEST BET) Very smart horse who is resuming after running third in the Queensland Guineas last June. He is a stakes winner and has a 3kgs claim here so looks very hard to beat first up.

No1 FORTENSKY Backing up from a good second at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. Racing very well and a winner this track previous start. Has won three times on soft tracks.

No5 DIVINE SERVICE Not racing well enough to win this on recent form but is a horse who can improve dramatically after a few runs into a campaign. Respect here.

No3 FLAMBOYER Has been ordinary past couple of runs but is very good on heavy tracks and the more rain the better here.

R6 - 3.27pm Prive249 Restaurant at Sofitel Brisbane Class 3 Plate - 1350m.

No4 TIVOLI STREET From the powerful Chris Waller stable and has won his past two starts at the provincial tracks. This is harder but the 1350m suits.

No9 LET’S PARTY MARTY Has a big wrap on him and this is far easier than last-start fifth this track. Should race up on the pace.

No3 SUGGAN BUGGAN Far too good in an easier Friday night race at the Sunshine Coast last time but is suited here and one of the main chances.

No6 SUILVEN Scored two very good wins at Ipswich and the Gold Coast running fast times before getting run down on the line last time. Should lead this field.

R7 - 4.12pm. Events at BRC Benchmark 75 Handicap - 1050m.

SCRATCHED - No3 APOLOBOOM Smart horse on his day who is ideally drawn here. Resuming from Toowoomba win in October but likes soft tracks and has won three times fresh.

No7 LIVE FAST Looked certain to win at the 200m but peaked when second this track over 1200m last time. The wetter the better for him.

No10 YARRAPOWER Strong winner this track and distance on a heavy track and looks among the best hopes again.

No9 TVERSKY Terrible run at 1200m last time but back to 1050m here and the sting out of the track should help. Chance on previous form.

R8 - 4.50pm. Blokes Day Out One Metro Win Handicap - 1200m.

No7 INSPIRED ESTELLE Has plenty of ability and winner this track and distance two starts back. Got too far back last start and better ridden closer the pace here.

No4 WELL SIGHTED Has won his past four starts on country and provincial tracks. This looks the perfect race for him to get back into city racing.

No3 TYZONE Prolific north Queensland winner who has been fair in much harder races since coming south. Has 3kgs claim here and looks better placed against these.

No1 SUNNY VICTORY Handy galloper resuming after a long spell. But has had two trials and looks ready to race well here.

R9 - 5.30pm. Starlight Family Raceday Benchmark 70 - 1600m.

No1 DIAMONDS ARE Very strong at the finish when a winner this track last start. Looks a horse on the rise.

No12 QUEEN OF HEIGHTS Canterbury winner in Sydney four runs back and hasn't been far away there of late. That is good enough to trouble this field.

SCRATCHED - No5 BRED FOR LUCK Has won her past three starts in easier company but deserves a chance in the city.

SCRATCHED - No14 ARAZONA Has won two of past three starts in easier races. But will race on the pace here and be hard to beat.
