Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 3.

Fri, 30 Mar, 12:00 AM

You won't be shocked to hear Doomben was drenched by a storm during the week. It should be back in at least the soft range on Saturday. The problem is that when it rains during a meeting the track cuts up very badly so be careful and check conditions before betting. Some big fields and nine races so expect some upsets. Also stick to our policy of front runners until at least race four.

QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)

Skinny Play:  1,6/8,14/1,3/8,9

Wide Play:  1,6,8,.11/6,8,12,14/1,3,6,7/8,9,11,14

Next Best Bet: R1 – 2. IRISH OPTIMISIM

Best Roughie: R8 – 6. PUNTA NORTE

R1 - 12.17pm. COUNTDOWN TO CARNIVAL Benchmark 80 Handicap - 2220m.

No2 IRISH OPTIMISIM (NEXT BEST BET) Tough stayer who has been minor placed his three runs in Queensland. Has a 2kgs claim here and is fit. Looks the one to beat at the weights in this easier company than last time.

No1 XEBEC Stablemate to Irish Optimism who is also racing well with minor placings his two starts this area. Could win without shocking at all but does lack something at the finish.

No5 SAVWELL Was racing very well at the midweek meetings before getting caught on a wet track when third at Doomben last time. Stepping up to a suitable distance and each-way claims here.

No4 WAR BABY Tough as old boots and usually races herself into fitness which she is doing now. Another out to a suitable distance and don't be shocked if she goes to the front here and is hard to run down.

R2 - 12.52pm. STARLIGHT FAMILY RACEDAY QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap - 2040m.

No3 IMPROVISE Young stayer from the Chris Waller stable who was second at Gosford last start. Has shown enough in NSW to suggest he can be hard to beat here.

No1 EPIC RANT Stormed home from near last to win at the Gold Coast last start. Has plenty of ability and this race suits. Also entered in Sydney but if runs here will be hard to beat.

No7 YANKEE TANGO Strong win at the Sunshine Coast last and this distance should suit. A wet track won't worry.

No12 NAKED Placed past two starts at the provincial tracks and has always indicated a middle distance would suit.

R3 - 1.27pm. MAKERS MARK CARNIVAL BALL QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap - 1200m.

No8 FISH ‘N’ SNITZ (BEST BET) Lovely looking filly who must rate among the unluckiest two-year-olds in training. Has been third her past three runs in similar company to this and has finally drawn a decent barrier. Looks very hard to beat.

No1 MISHANI HUSTLER Was a good winner this track and first start and just run down on the line when fourth in a $250,000 race at the Gold Coast last start. The barrier is no help.

No3 MISS SARA Deserved her last-start win at 1350m as she had been most consistent. Always a hope these type of races and drawn to get the run of the race.

No7 FIRST CLASS MISS Lived up to good trial form with strong win her only start this track. Harder here but is certainly one of the main hopes.

R4 - 2.02pm. SKY RACING Two Metro Wins Handicap - 1200m.

No11 TVERSKY Better run last start when third this track and after striking trouble at previous start. Has shown a heap of ability and now that he is back on track should pay to follow.

No4 MYLITTLE FLICKA Trialled well before she did the right thing by us winning at good odds at first run for a new stable. Barrier is no help but does have early pace.

*SCRATCHED* No8 DIAMONDS ARE Was racing very well before terrible run last time when gone at the 600m. Was in the wrong part of the track last start and far too good to ignore here.

No3 DE VILLIERS Country galloper who has won nine of his ten starts in Queensland. This far harder than last-start win but he is obviously tough and in form last campaign.

R5 - 2.42pm. WEDDINGS AT BRC QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap - 1200m.

No5 SUSURRI Finally had some luck last start and a winner this track. Could have easily won two previous starts. Just needs some luck from the barrier.

*SCRATCHED* No1 SISTA ACT Plenty of excuses when beaten at Warwick two runs back but then straight to the lead and never headed at the Gold Coast. The key to her is leading and should have enough pace to cross from the barrier.

No2 SETOGA Strong winner this track two starts back and then fourth this track and company last start. Always a hope.

*SCRATCHED* COPYWRITER Showed plenty of ability with a first start win but then not much luck when unplaced next time on a bog track. Respect fresh here.

R6 - 3.22pm. MICHELLE ELKIN B'DAY OPEN Handicap - 1050m.

No1 DAL CIELO Group 1 winner in New Zealand and has been placed in stakes company in Australia. In other words, has lengths on these in ability. Also has trialled well winning at Newcastle recently. But has one fault he can stand in the barriers and refuse to race so be careful.

No6 GRACIDA Very fast horse who won four races in a row before first-up second on a wet track at the Sunshine Coast. Always hard to beat in short course races.

No8 TIYATROLANI Loves this track and distance. Resuming here and has missed a trial but first-up record is also very good so respect.

*SCRATCHED* No11 IMPREGNABLE Honest gelding who is resuming here after two recent trials. Up in class here but has a very good first-up record.

R7 - 4.02pm. MEGAPORT Class 3 Plate - 1200m.

No14 RIVER RACER Looks very well weighted here after a 2kgs claim as she is the second highest rated horse in the race and gets in under the limit. Resuming here but has raced well in stakes company and just needs some luck here.

No8 LET'S PARTY MARTY Show plenty of promise and just run over in the final 100m this track last start. Has the pace to get across from the bad barrier.

No6 MOGADOR Had very strong form before being sold to a Gold Coast. Excellent run in the Goldmarket Hcp last start which is a Listed race last start. Does look very hard to beat.

No12 SAXTON ROCK Has been generally disappointing but should be fitter now and has drawn very well. Rough chance here.

R8 - 4.37pm. BRC MERCHANDISE OPEN Handicap - 1350m.

No3 FORTENSKY Has been a model of consistency since coming from Sydney with a win and two seconds. Is claiming 2kgs here and looks hard to beat from the good barrier.

No1 PAYROLL Promising horse who won twice in Stakes company before a spell. Has plenty of weight but has won first-up so looks one of the best chances.

No6 PUNTA NORTE (BEST ROUGHIE) Hard to know what he will produce here but handy second at the Sunshine Coast last start. Does like the sting out of the track and likes Doomben.

No7 AQUA VITE There are few more consistent horses than him in work. Excellent run when no luck and third in the Goldmarket at his last start. Likes wet tracks.

R9 - 5.15pm. GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Benchmark 75 Handicap - 1350m.

No8 LYRICIST These races usually suit horses down a bit in the weights. At her last start was a good Ipswich winner and probably should have finished closer when fourth at Doomben previous start.

No9 BRED FOR LUCK Racing very well at the country and provincial tracks before last start second this track behind a smart horse. Looks to be holding his form well.

No11 SEA THE SPARKLE Getting close to a win with placings past four starts. This is the type of race she can win.

No14 IL RICCIO Has a very big wrap on him and strong winner first-up at the Sunshine Coast and should have won from a wide barrier when second at the Gold Coast last time.
