Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 6.

Fri, 20 Apr, 6:00 AM

The first meeting at Doomben in three weeks and remedial work has been done to the track. With some big fields and nine races you can expect some upsets. It will be interesting to see the race pattern but we should stick with our policy of front runners until at least race four.

R1 - 11.32am. THE AUSURE SCONE OPEN Handicap - 2200m.

No2 Exoteric Winner at the Gold Coast in powerful fashion and then didn't handle the track at all when unplaced in the Toowoomba Cup. This suits.

No4 Xebec Has been very consistent and deserved his last-start win this track. Always a chance this company.

No1 Slow Pace Has been racing in much better company in Sydney and is a winner this track in similar company. The weight is the only worry.

No5 Don't Tell Mama On trial this trip but should have nearly won the Toowoomba Cup when fourth last start which is good enough for this.

VALUE RUNNER: No5 Don't Tell Mama

R2 - 12.07pm. GOA BenchMark 75 Handicap - 1050m.

No7 Secret Mo Has been most consistent without winning but we did like his recent trial win chance here.

SCRATCHED - No11 Muddy Rope Was racing very well before well beaten this track last start. Down in weight here and the track conditions didn't suit him last time.

No10 Arizona Wildcat Scored an upset win at Ipswich last start and has a claim and barrier one here. Respect.

No6 Rock Spur Better known over more ground but has a good form in north Queensland. Forget last start Gold Coast failure as struck trouble.

VALUE RUNNER: No10 Arizona Wildcat

R3 - 12.43pm. LEILA ROSE FOUNDATION 2YO PLATE - 1050m.

SCRATCHED - No7 Cuddle Me Tight Backed for attack and just wanted to over race when run down and second at Toowoomba at first start.

No5 Pennino Won his two starts before a spell and should be unbeaten in three starts. No official trial and barrier no help but promising.

No6 Sizzling Ace Had no luck at all in top class races in the summer and was impressive in all three starts without winning. Has trialled solidly for comeback here.

No1 Wicked Ways Form this area was strong before going to Rockhampton in a feature race. Respect here.

VALUE RUNNER: No1 Wicked Ways

R4 - 1.17pm. ENTICE SERVICES BenchMark 75 Handicap - 1600m.

No2 Savwell (NEXT BEST BET) Looked sure to score on the home turn but didn't run out the 2200m at Doomben last start when fourth. Back to suitable distance here and has a class edge on these.

No3 Lyricist Another racing well without much luck and can improve in fifth at Doomben in similar company at last start.

No7 Sharpamal Racing well in easier races but should lead here even though he has a wide barrier. Earlier pressure will tell the tale.

No10 Le Dude Winner this track and distance on a heavy track two runs back and then a good second at the Gold Coast. Each-way again here.

R5 - 1.52pm. MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL SALE BenchMark 80 Handicap - 1350m.

SCRATCHED - No17 A Shin Rook Japanese horse having first Australian start but a very good trial winner last week. Is an emergency here but should get a run and very hard to beat.

SCRATCHED - No7 Cornrow Good second at the Gold Coast and has won a trial since. Likes wet tracks or at least some sting out of it.

No12 Viaductress Racing well with a win and two seconds of late and is down in the weights here from a good barrier.

SCRATCHED - No6 Apoloboom Looked winner on turn but faded when fifth at Toowoomba last start. Winner this track previous start and suited here despite wide barrier.

No2 Whypeeo (BEST BET) Very smart three-year-old resuming here. Is a stakes winner and from barrier three looks too good for these.

No9 Basara Brilliant winner last start in easier Ipswich company. Has always shown ability and chance again.

No10 Hingus Rose Resuming here but has been placed behind some smart horses. Impressed in recent Sunshine Coast trial win.

No5 Wonder Boom this is a step up in class but good Sunshine Coast winner last time and handles all types of tracks.

VALUE RUNNER: No10 Hingus Rose.

R7 - 3.07pm. QRIC ASCOT HANDICAP - 1200m.

No3 Mr Sneaky Group One placed galloper resuming here. Has a class edge on these but the barrier is no help. Still should be suited by a fast early pace.

No2 Hopfgarten Tough old stakes performer who plugged away when midfield first-up at Toowoomba. Handles wet and dry and a winner second-up.

No4 Amanaat Brilliant winner of the Weetwood Handicap last start which made it seven wins from eight starts in Queensland. Obviously a danger.

No6 Hi I'm Back Never runs a bad race and second in the Weetwood last start. He is overdue for a win.

VALUE RUNNER: No2 Hopfgarten

R8 - 3.47pm. RAY WHITE ASCOT TAILS STAKES - 1600m.

No3 Man of His Word Has been just behind the placegetters in both races since a spell Out to the distance where he is a stakes winner and very hard to beat.

No5 Emphasis (BEST ROUGHIE) Good run when fourth first-up at the Sunshine Coast and loves this track. Has a light weight and good barrier and will be decent odds.

No2 Jumbo Prince Honest as they come and flashed home for third in the Weetwood at Toowoomba. Out to a suitable distance now.

No8 Aqua Vite The most honest horse in Queensland and overcame difficulties to win at Doomben last start.

VALUE RUNNER: No5 Emphasis

R9 - 4.27pm. COUNTDOWN TO CARNIVAL Class 6 Plate - 1200m.

No2 Mr Marbellouz In two races but obviously as the winner of six from seven starts is a top chance if he starts here from the good barrier with a claim.

No7 Oink Smart galloper who is resuming after an unlucky last campaign. Always goes well fresh and has trialled solidly for this.

No11 Freddie Fox Trot Most improved galloper who won four races in a row before a spell. Is another to have trialled well here.

No8 Taillevent Nearly pulled off a long priced each-way result for us last start when unlucky fourth at Toowoomba. Ready to win now.

VALUE RUNNER: No8 Taillevent
