Team Hayes have a smart filly in the three-year-old Speak Softly, who strikes her own age and sex in a mild maiden over 1200m (Race 3) today.
The daughter of leading sire Nicconi was first up and had a tough run when she finished third to Faith In Hand over 1100m in a maiden at Seymour on April 10. She tracked deep and fought to be headed inside the final 50m. She has only raced three times for two seconds in the country. At her other start she ran a strong fifth to Pure Emotion in a higher grade over 1200m at Moonee Valley last June.
Speak Softly has drawn in the middle of the field in six and has the pace to box seat fro regular rider Jake Duffy. With rain forecast the track is currently rated as a Soft 6 (Tuesday) and could deteriorate – so keep an eye on the track rating. The false rail is at the True Position again.
