Team Hayes have a smart filly in the three-year-old Speak Softly, who strikes her own age and sex in a mild maiden over 1200m (Race 3) today.

The daughter of leading sire Nicconi was first up and had a tough run when she finished third to Faith In Hand over 1100m in a maiden at Seymour on April 10. She tracked deep and fought to be headed inside the final 50m. She has only raced three times for two seconds in the country. At her other start she ran a strong fifth to Pure Emotion in a higher grade over 1200m at Moonee Valley last June.

Speak Softly has drawn in the middle of the field in six and has the pace to box seat fro regular rider Jake Duffy. With rain forecast the track is currently rated as a Soft 6 (Tuesday) and could deteriorate – so keep an eye on the track rating. The false rail is at the True Position again.

No7 Washington Lass

No6 Royal Parade

VALUE RUNNER: No6 Royal Parade

R2 – 2.00pm. The Bendigo Club Maiden Plate – 1450m.

No4 Tavsomefun is a youngster at three-years so has scope for improvement in an average maiden. He is by New Zealand’s top stallion Tavistock and he ran a closing fourth over 1200m maiden at Pakenham on April 12.

No11 Speak Softly (BEST BET) looks to have her opposition covered on exposed form with two seconds at her three starts. Latest she fought hard to the wire for a strong second over 1100m maiden at Seymour on April 13. That was first-up and she will be improved and has a nice draw in gate six.

No7 Miss Pins
