Scone Racing Preview & Tips – Saturday 12th May
Day 2 of the Scone carnival has attracted big fields with plenty chances in what shapes to be a great day of racing.
Racing returns to Scone for their final day of the two of their carnival. The track should hold up after racing there on Friday. Some nice horses engaged on the card and as a result there’s already been some nice betting activity and we’re expecting the likes of Chris Waller and James Cummings to dominate the meeting as they have some outstanding gallopers engaged.
Looks like we are on a Good 4 with the rail out 3m 800m to winning post.
QUADDIE PICKS ( 5-6-7-8):
3,4,10,11 – 1,3,5,6 – 1,3,10,11 – 1,2,3,5
Race 1 – 12:15pm Kia Ora Stud BM80 Handicap 2200m
DROCHAID is a consistent galloper that will appreciate the easier class of this race here today. Settled near the rear before coming home strong when beaten by 2.1 lengths at Randwick on the 25th of April. Drawn to be very competitive and looks a serious player in the opening event of the program. B McDougall takes the reins and we expect this galloper to be right in the finish today.
1st: No1 DROCHAID 2nd: No4 Mazaz; 3rd: No9 Mandalay Bay; 4th: No5 Mornington
Race 2 – 12:50pm Vinery Stud Benchmark 80 Handicap 1100m
CRADLE MOUNTAIN (BEST BET) is an ultra-consistent gelding that looks extremely hard to go past going on his recent efforts. Led and proved too smart for his rivals last start when winning by an astonishing 3.4 lengths in great time at Randwick on the 25th of April. Drawn a tad wide but has plenty of early toe and should be leading this field after a few hundred metres. Looks a superstar in the making and is the one they all need to run down here today. Looks the winner!
1st: No2 CRADLE MOUNTAIN 2nd: No1 Akasaki; 3rd: No4 Malahat; 4th: No11 Nicof
Race 3 – 1.25pm Segenhoe Stud Woodlands Stakes 1100m
PRETTY IN PINK won her debut well at Gosford and can make it successful victories to start her racing career here today. Settled midfield before coming home strong to win by 2.5 lengths. The runner up has gone on to win since so the form should stack up. This Sebring filly looks to have a bright future and will be hard to beat once again. Jockey and trainer have a good combination and will go close to adding another victory to it here today. Drawn a tad wide so will look to find some cover and slot in behind the speed. Has a good tun of foot so look for her coming home strong. Key Player.
1st: No8 PRETTY IN PINK 2nd: No3 Witherspoon; 3rd: No5 Invictus Salute; 4th: No2 Miss Scorcher
Race 4- 2.05pm Inglis 3YO Guineas 1400m
MOSS TRIP (NEXT BEST) looked good when storming home to win by a nose on the 21st of April at Royal Randwick and can make it successful victories here today. Has a great record over the distance (6 starts for 2 wins 3 placings) is a lightly raced filly which looks hard to beat once again. Goes up half a kilo and will now carry 54.5 kgs but has the form on the board to be giving this race an almighty shake. The big danger!
1st: No8 MOSS TRIP 2nd: No1 Villermont; 3rd: No7 Frolic; 4th: No2 Dissolution
Race 5 – 2.45pm Emirates Park Denise’s Joy Stakes 1100m
SASSO CORBARO is a consistent filly that’s resuming from a spell and has good form around Cradle Mountain, our best bet of the day. Excels when racing fresh and sure to be in this for a long way. Has won twice and placed twice over the distance and looks in the mix to add another win to its resume. Will be in this for a long way and Blake Shinn on board is a huge bonus as he has ridden the horse in the past. Rates on top.
1st: No3 SASSO CORBARO No1 Demerara; 3rd: No6 In Good Time; 4th: No5 She Knows
Race 6 – 3:25pm Yarraman Park Luskin Star Stakes 1300m
We are going for some value here and tipping INVINCIBLE GEM. The talented four-year-old can go forward in her races and is likely to be on the speed, or dictating, throughout. Check out the horses she has been racing again – Happy Clapper and Winx! This is a drop in class and with only 54.5kgs on her back is definitely worth a bet.
1st: No4 INVINCIBLE GEM 2nd: No10 Osborne Bulls; 3rd: No11 Firsthand; 4th: No3 Takedown
Race 7 – 4:05pm Coolmore Dark Jewel Classic 1400m
It’s time to get on GHISONI. The mare has always been highly rated but has only won four times in 12 career starts. Last time out she was brave in carrying 59kgs in the Godolphin Crown to finish second to Pecans. That was her second run back from a spell and she should be peaking third-up. We know she can carry weight so the 58kgs won’t be a concern today. Barrier 12 is though. Fingers crossed Tye Angland can give her a good run in transit.
1st: No1 GHISONI 2nd: No10 Dyslexic; 3rd: No3 Danish Twist; 4th: No11 Slow Burn
Race 8 – 4:45pm Arrowfield Stud Ortensia Stakes 1100m
He has to carry 61kgs but TERRAVISTA cannot be discounted here. The Joe Pride runner is without doubt the class runner of the field and is a Group One winning sprinter. Hasn’t raced since early March but goes good fresh. Has drawn 13 but if he gets a good run he will be in the thick of things. Three runs back he ran second to Redzel in the Darley Classic and if he is anywhere near ready, he wins today.
1st: No1 TERRAVISTA 2nd: No3 Glenall; 3rd: No2 Kuro; 4th: No5 Quatronic
