Wednesday Racing Tips - 16th May
It’s a fantastic day’s racing and all eyes will be on James McDonald as he eyes a successful return to the racetrack.
We have covered most parts of Australia today to give you 10 bets we think are worth following. There are a few promising performers to have a punt on and one of those will be ridden by one of Australia’s premier jockeys who is returning from an extended stint on the sidelines.
Warwick Farm is a Good 4 with the rail out 3m the entire circumference.
Sandown is a Soft 5 with the rail out 5m the entire circuit.
Murray Bridge is a Good 4 with the rail out 3m 1000m to winning post and true the remainder.
Ascot is a Good 4 with the rail at the inside position.
Race 1 (Sunshine Coast) – 12:33pm Caloundra RSL Class 1 Plate 2200m
Lightly raced All Too Hard gelding EVOLO out of the astute Edmonds stable looks perfectly placed to take out the opening event on the Sunshine Coast. Settled near the rear before producing a good turn of foot when beaten by 1.4 lengths at Toowoomba a fortnight back. Goes up in distance and its racing pattern suggest it’s been crying out for this distance range. We expect him to settle near the rear and be saved for one big crack at them in the straight. Hard to hold out.
Race 1 (Warwick Farm) – 12:50pm TAB Handicap 1400m
All eyes will be on superstar jockey James McDonald as he returns to the saddle for the first time after completing his suspension. CORMAC will strip fitter third-up and looks a serious chance to take out the opening event here today. Beaten by 0.3 of a length at Wyong last start he will be hard to beat and looks perfectly placed. Top Pick.
Race 4 (Sandown) – 2:10pm Mypunter.com Handicap 2400m
Consistent Savabeel gelding JOHNNY VINKO was a touch unlucky ay Pakenham last start and should go close to atoning for his narrow defeat a fortnight ago here today. Has finished runner up at his past two starts, beaten by a combined margin of a length so he is due for a change of luck. Has the form and sure to be very competitive in this grade. Looks the testing material and can return into the winner’s circle here today.
Race 4 (Murray Bridge) – 2:25pm Eckert Earthmoving Benchmark 64 Handicap 904m
BETCHER looked outstanding since resuming from a spell winning his past two starts to date and looks ready to rack up the hat-trick of victories here today. Led and proved too slick for his rivals at Port Augusta when storming away to an ultra-impressive 2.4 length victory. Likes to lead and if he can get away with cheap mid-race sectionals the race could be all over as they enter the straight. Goes up 8.5kgs in weight but has the class to give this one almighty shake here today. Drawn perfectly, looks the winner again.
Race 5 (Sunshine Coast) – 2:53pm Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 3 Handicap 1200m
Lightly raced I Am Invincible gelding I AM IMPINGE (NEXT BEST) is resuming from a spell but has been sharpened up for his return with a couple trials and sure to be very competitive here today. Raced in some handy races last preparation so he will appreciate this weaker graded event. Excels when racing fresh and has placed on the track and distance in the past. Has form on soft and good tracks and sure to have plenty admires. The one to beat, pick of the program.
Race 6 (Sunshine Coast) – 3:28pm Eumundi Lager Class 3 Plate 1600m
It was a very impressive half a length victory by LE MATTAN on the Gold Coast last start when unleashing a devastating turn of foot to run over the top of his rivals in the final hundred metres. That was a much weaker field compared to what he is facing today but he looks ready to raise the bar and be hard to beat once again. Has been racing in fine form since resuming from a spell and he surely can take the next step in this very winnable event here today. Looks a serious horse and not to be taken lightly.
Race 6 (Warwick Farm) – 3:45pm Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 1200m
Lightly raced Exceed and Excel filly MEDOVINA from the talented Godolphin stable is one to follow. She yet to miss a place from her three starts to date and looks hard to go past here today. Looked impressive when storming home from the tail of the field to get the job done by half a length at Kembla Grange a fortnight ago. Does go up in class but she looks to have a bright future and will be the one they all need to beat. Will give them a start but watch for her storming home late and hopefully over the top of her opposition. Key player.
Race 2 (Ascot) – 3:49pm Penfolds Handicap 2200m
SCRATCHED - MONTAGNA is an ultra-coincident gelding that’s won or finished runner up at his past 6 starts and looks the one they all need to beat here today going on his superb form. Go on his dominant 3.6 length victory on this track two starts back on April 18 when giving his rivals a galloping lesson. Has drawn to get the run of the race, looks well placed and sure to be ready to fire once again. Serious chance in this grade.
Race 7 (Sandown) – 3:55pm Blue Star Print Group Handicap 1400m
THINK BABE has been in good form of late and sure to be very competitive despite the wide draw he faces today. Beaten by a length at Warrnambool a fortnight ago when starting a short-priced favourite. Has a superb record over the distance and with his good gate speed he will look to cross the field when the barriers open and settle with the leaders. Sure to be in this for a long way and trainer and jockey have a great strike rate when combining.
Race 8 (Sandown) – 4:30pm Ladbrokes Info Hub Handicap 1800m
HEAVENLY THOUGHT (BEST BET) has drawn to get the run of the race and does look the pick of the program at Sandown today. Settled in a midfield position before coming home strong to just fail to reel in the leader, beaten by less than a length at Warrnambool a fortnight back. Has won on this track and has placed over the distance and we are expecting a big show by this Darren Weir trained Colt here today. Looks the clear top pick in this very winnable event. Huge chance!
