Friday Racing Tips - 18th May
We have gone for a two-State approach to our selections today with Port Macquarie and Cranbourne the venues in our sights.
Port Macquarie is the venue for the first two of today’s selections and we are banking on some hot provincial form to get the job done for us. Later in the evening we are switching to the Cranbourne night meeting where Thunder Cloud has caught our eye.
Port Macquarie is a Soft 7 with the rail in the true position throughout.
Cranbourne is racing on a Soft 6 with the rail in the true position the entire circuit.
Race 7 (Port Macquarie) – 3:40pm Stowe Australia Benchmark 65 Handicap 1100m
SCRATCHED - Drawn to get the run of the race and going on his form last preparation, JEXERLENT will be hard to beat here today. Proved too slick for his rivals when winning by 2.2 lengths at Tamworth back in February before going to the paddock for a well-earned spell. Has been sharpened up for this with a solid trial at Wyong and he looks ready to fire first-up. Will look to settle just behind the speed and have the last crack at them in the straight. Will be in this for a long way - big show expected.
Race 8 (Port Macquarie) – 4:20pm Better Solar Energy Benchmark 55 Handicap 1500m
WONDERFUL THING (BEST BET) is on a seven-day back up so stable must be highly confident and going on her previous effort she looks hard to go past in the final event of the program at Port Macquarie here today. Settled at rear of the field before unleashing a good turn of foot to go down by 2.7 lengths at Coffs Harbour a week ago. She gave her opposition too much of a start and had a lot of work to do, but she did run good sectionals home and will appreciate the extra distance. Has a good record on the track and has been crying out for the 1500 metres. Rates well.
Race 6 (Cranbourne) – 8:30pm Obrien Real Estate Sky Heights Stayers Heat 4 2025m
THUNDER CLOUD is racing in super form of late and will be looking to rack up the hat-trick of victories here today. Settled in a midfield position before unleashing a good turn of foot in the straight to win running away by 3.4 lengths at Warrnambool a fortnight back. Has drawn a tad wide so look for him to settle near the rear of the pack and be saved for one big run at them in the straight. Looks well placed and trainer and jockey have a great strike rate when combining. Ticks all the boxes and is hard to beat.
