What a huge day of racing and we have searched far and wide to give you nine of our best for today’s thoroughbred action. Canterbury and Ballarat are the main focus but Gawler and the Gold Coast have one or two key runners we fancy a crack on too.

Canterbury is racing on a Good 4 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit.

Ballarat is a Soft 7 with the rail out 15m 600m to the winning post. It is true the remainder.

Gold Coast is a Good 4 with the rail out 4m 1400m to the winning post and 3m out the remainder.

Gawler is a Soft 6 with the rail out 5m 800m to 400m and 2m the remainder.

Race 1 (Canterbury) – 12:50pm TAB.com.au Handicap 1100m

Lightly raced Snitzel colt MUNICH out of the Snowden stable looks to have found the perfect race to break through in the opening event of the program at Canterbury Park here today. Has had the benefit of a trial victory and sure to be in this for a long way. James McDonald takes the reins and he has been in hot form since returning from his lengthy suspension. Looks extremely well placed and should be taking out the opener.

Race 2 (Ballarat) – 1:00pm Bartlett Blinds SV 2YO Fillies Handicap 1200m

ANJANA looked very impressive at her debut when storming away to a 1.4 length victory at Wangaratta and can make it successful victories to kick start her racing career. Settled near the rear before peeling out wide and coming home strong to salute in a dominant manor. Goes up in class but looks like she will be ready for the challenge and sure to be very competitive once again. Trainer D Weir just knows how to win these races and we expect another victory for the powerful stable. Will give them a start but watch for her storming home late. The one to beat.

Race 2 (Gold Coast) – 1:08pm Umtold Rum Qtis 3YO Handicap 1800m

Lightly raced gelding CAPTIVATOR (NEXT BEST) is looking to bounce back into the winner’s circle after an unlucky effort last start when beaten by a nose in a photo finish. Go on his dominant three length victory two starts back when proving too good for his rivals, streaking away to a strong victory. Will look to settle near the speed and he looks the one they all need to run down. Goes good on the track and is a key player in this.

Race 3 (Gawler) – 1:20pm Barossa.com/SABOIS Maiden Plate 1224m

Resuming from a 14-week break, OH MO showed promise last preparation to be a leading contender first-up here today. Has had the benefit of a trial leading into her return where she ran second and despite the wide draw she looks very hard to go past. Looks to have found the right race for his much-deserved maiden victory and with any luck in transit he should be first past the post here today. Looks the winner and happy to stick with him.

Race 3 (Canterbury) – 2:00pm TAB Handicap 1250m

NOBLE CREED is a Lohnro filly that’s yet to taste defeat from her two starts to date and looks ready to rack up the hat-trick here today. Settled at the rear of the field before unleashing a good turn of foot to get the victory by 1.6 lengths at Newcastle a fortnight ago. Has a wide draw but that won’t be an issue as she likes to settle near the rear and be saved for one big run at them in the straight. Stable is firing and looks ready to add another victory to their impressive record. Hard to go past on recent form.

Race 4 (Ballarat) – 2:10pm Medical Edge BM64 Handicap 1100m

Lightly raced gelding MISTER JAY is resuming from a spell but can bounce straight into the winner’s circle here today. Looked impressive when leading all-the-way for a strong 1.4 length victory at Stony Creek back in December. Has drawn a tad wide so jockey will need to decide to look for the lead or take a sit behind the speed and save him for one big run at them in the straight. Has a good turn of foot and will be the one coming home hard out wide. Serious player.

Race 5 (Canterbury) – 3:10pm #THERACES Handicap 1550m

JAUNTY (BEST BET) has drawn to get the run of the race and looks hard to go past. The mare will strip fitter third-up and has a great record on this track winning twice from three attempts. Excels over the distance and will look to stalk the Waterhouse/ Bott-trained galloper Maid Marilyn who should lead the field into the straight. Looked impressive at her last start on this track back in December when coming home strong to get the victory by a neck. Has the form and looks perfectly placed back in this grade. The best bet of the day.

Race 6 (Canterbury) – 3:45pm Vale Don Storey 1550m

Talented Sebring filly GRESHAM is racing in good form of late and can atone for his narrow last start defeat at Warwick Farm here today. Has a superb record over the distance (6 starts for 1 Win and 4 Placings) and looks the one they all need to beat. Looked good at Gosford two starts back when leading all the way to hang on by half a length. Has the form plus trainer and jockey have a great strike rate when combining. Sure to have plenty admirers. Big chance.

Race 8 (Ballarat) – 4:30pm Hygain Winner’s choice BM64 Handicap 1400m

CAPTAIN HARRY returned from a spell in fine order which included two victories on this track and Sandown two starts back and can make it three straight here today. Settled just off the speed before coming home strong to get the job done by a nose in a close finish. Excels when racing on the track and has a good record over the distance. Ticks all the boxes and looks the one they all need to beat. Sticking with him to make it three on the trot in this very winnable event.
