Randwick Racing Preview & Tips - Saturday 26th May
We are banking on a couple of youngsters who we think are close to good things at Randwick.
Randwick is the stage for metropolitan racing in Sydney this weekend and there are nine top races to have a put on including the ever-popular, TAB Highway. One of our top picks appears in the opening event and has shown plenty of potential at his only start and it will take something special to stop him making it two-for-two.
Looks like we are on a Good 4 with the rail in the true position.
QUADDIE PICKS ( 6-7-8-9):
1,3,6,8,12 – 1,2,3,6 – 1,3,4,5,9 – 3,5,8,9,11
Race 1 – 11:25am Energy Air Plate 1400m
THE AUTUMN SUN (NEXT BEST) looked impressive when winning on debut at Randwick back in March and has drawn to be very competitive in the opening event of the program here today. Proved too slick for his rivals at his only start despite being three-wide for most of the trip when running away to a dominant 1.6 length victory. Has won a trial leading into this. The one to beat.
1st: No5 THE AUTUMN SUN 2nd: No6 Whiteley; 3rd: No7 Mickey Blue Eyes; 4th: No4 Royal Celebration
Race 2 – 12:00pm Supporterhub Handicap 1400m
Unbeaten Starcraft filly VONTAINE looks perfectly placed to rack up the hat-trick of wins after two impressive victories to date and will be the one they all need to beat. Gave her rivals a galloping lesson at Kembla Grange last start when romping away to a seven length victory a fortnight ago. Will look to settle near the pace and watch for her turn of acceleration once B Avdulla hits the ‘go’ button. Looks to have a bright future who should prove too good for this field here today. Sticking with her.
1st: No2 VONTAINE 2nd: No4 Heat Haze; 3rd: No6 Toryjoy; 4th: No8 Touch Of Mink
Race 3 – 12.35pm McCarthy Homes Handicap 1200m
ZONK is only lightly raced out of the ever reliable Les Bridge stable. She will look to atone for her narrow last start defeat at Rosehill when nabbed right on the winning post. Will strip fitter second-up and has drawn the rail so she should get the run of the race. She could lead the field and if she does get away with an easy time in front, it could be over halfway down the straight. Leading contender. Huge chance.
1st: No4 ZONK 2nd: No2 Sasso Corbaro; 3rd: No1 Savatiano; 4th: No5 Zafina
Race 4- 1.15pm TAB Highway Handicap 1000m
SHE KNOWS has some upside about her and looks well placed to bounce back into the winner’s circle after being narrowly beaten at Scone last start. Chased for the entire straight but just failed to reel in the leader when beaten by half a length. Go on her dominant 2.6 length victory at Hawkesbury a month ago when taking over at the 300 metre mark to run away to an impressive victory. Blake Shinn hops back on board and we are confident she will run another huge race. Consistent filly ready to make a statement here today.
1st: No1 SHE KNOWS 2nd: No6 Princess Lottie; 3rd: No2 Larlarbrook; 4th: No4 Go The Gantry
Race 5 – 1.55pm EML Handicap 1600m
Drawn to get the run of the race, BASTIA will look to bounce back after chasing hard to just go down by a neck at Rosehill last start. Will be looking for the heavens to open as he excels on a soft/ heavy track so if there’s any rain around our confidence will definitely grow more about his chances. Did romp away to a 4.5 length victory on a rain affected track at Port Macquarie back in November. Consistent gelding ready to fire here today. Rates well.
1st: No6 BASTIA No2 Veladero; 3rd: No1 Collateral; 4th: No4 After All That
Race 6 – 2.35pm Wilson Asset Management Handicap 2000m
Resuming from a 3-week layoff but LIVE AND FREE (BEST BET) showed promise last start to be the one they all need to beat here today. Proved too classy for his rivals when running away to an ultra-impressive 3.4 length victory at Rosehill early this month and can make it successful victories. Has no wet form so watch betting markets if there’s any rain around but breeding suggests it shouldn’t be an issue. Sticking with him.
1st: No3 LIVE AND FREE 2nd: No8 Turnberry; 3rd: No12 Ombudsman; 4th: No6 Destiny’s Hero
Race 7 – 3.15pm Fujitsu Air Conditioning McKell Cup 2400m
NAVAL WARFARE is backing up after placing at Rosehill seven days ago so stable must be full of confidence he will run another big race here today. Looked home for all money only to be pipped right on the line last week. Has won on good and soft and has a great record in this class. Chris Waller just knows how to win these staying races and we expect a huge effort by this galloper. Ticks all the boxes and looks hard to beat.
1st: No6 NAVAL WARFARE 2nd: No3 Our Century; 3rd: No2 Destiny’s Kiss; 4th: No1 Ecuador
Race 8 – 3:50pm The Man Shake Handicap 1100m
An ultra-consistent gelding with massive potential, WIDGEE TURF is having his first start the Sydney way here today. Has had a let up since beaten by 3 lengths at Caulfield back in April. Has drawn a tad wide but that won’t be an issue as he likes to settle near the rear of his races and be saved for one big crack at them in the straight. Has a great record when racing in this class. Huge danger and could start at good each way value.
1st: No1 WIDGEE TURF 2nd: No5 Dal Cielo; 3rd: No9 Samantha; 4th: No3 Pecans
Race 9 – 4:30pm Anthony Diprose Memorial Handicap 1400m
SPARKY LAD finished seventh last start but was only beaten by 1.2 lengths. He never really got a crack at them until late so the run is better than it looks on paper. Has drawn well so we expect this Smart Missile gelding to settle near the speed and be in this for a long way. Has the form to take out the final event of the program here today and she shapes up as a key player and the one they all need to beat.
1st: No9 SPARKY LAD 2nd: No 8 Screamarr; 3rd: No5 Schubert; 4th: No11 Fierce Impact
