Champagne performance on the cards - Thoroughbred Racing Stradbroke Handicap

Bjorn Baker is eyeing off success in this week’s Group One Stradbroke Handicap.

Champagne Cuddles looks perfectly weighted to take out her first Group One success this Saturday.

The Bjorn Baker-trained runner gets in at just 50kgs and has a sense of timing about her run to the Stradbroke where she comes into the game off the back of a very good third in the Kingsford-Smith Cup a fortnight ago at this track.

Forced three-wide for the majority of the race, jockey Corey Brown issued his challenge out four-wide on the home turn and the pair looked as though they were to overhaul the leaders, however, the extra workload told and she faded slightly on her run to wind up third to Impending.

She meets him 3.5kgs better off and has come up with barrier one so Brown is set to have her perfectly positioned from the outset. The soft conditions won’t worry her and the 1350m is ideal.

Impending is the defending champ and has to lump 57.5kgs but he is absolutely flying and reserves his best performances for the winter in Queensland. Despite the weight and the awkward alley (9), he is a big chance of going back-to-back.

Outside of those there is plenty of value to be found in Santa Ana Lane ($15), Foxplay ($31) and The Monstar ($34) among those with chances.

Selections: Champagne Cuddles 1, Impending 2, Santa Ana Lane 3, Foxplay 4
