Punters are faced with a difficult assignment at Flemington with nine races and each of those contain at least a handful of chances. We have gone for a horse we have been following for a while as our best bet of the day while there is also one or two at odds that we fancy will run a great race today.
Flemington is a Good 4 with the rail out 6m the entire circuit.
QUADDIE PICKS ( 6-7-8-9):
2,3,4,5,14,15 – 1,5,7,14,15 – 3,4,7,10 – 1,3,6,9,12
The early money is on PROPELLE so you have to follow the action. A winner of her only two starts, Propelle was ultra-impressive in winning at Sale last time out when doing plenty of work in the run but still running away to win by over three lengths. A new challenge here going up the Flemington straight but if she can handle it, is definitely worth following.
1st: No10 PROPELLE 2nd: No1 Scottish Rogue; 3rd: No3 Expedius; 4th: No4 The August
HURSLEY is worth a bet in what is a fairly wide open affair. The gelding has been racing consistently of late, placing behind Jaameh and Our Peaky Blinders while he was a distant fourth to Boom Time at Flemington on May 19. Handles all conditions, the distance suits, and gets the services of Dwayne Dunn. Our top pick.
1st: No3 HURSLEY 2nd: No2 Swacadelic; 3rd: No6 Lycurgus; 4th: No7 Sly Romance
We are giving SMOOTH LANDING another go. The filly produced an outstanding effort three starts ago when coming from the rear to finish a close second to crack colt Peaceful State in Adelaide while he also got the better of her in the Adelaide Guineas. Last time out at Sandown, Smooth Landing was three-wide the trip but battle on fairly to finish fifth to Truly Discreet. Jockey Regan Bayliss’ job will be to give her a nicer run here but where he gets to from barrier 12 is anyone’s guess. She will be hitting the line hard again.
1st: No7 SMOOTH LANDING 2nd: No1 Island Daze; 3rd: No9 Remember The Name; 4th: No4 Mintha
SILVERA (BEST BET) should be at his peak now following two runs back from a spell. The son of High Chaparral carried 60.5kgs when second to Linguist at Cranbourne and prior to that was close up behind the talented Jaws Of Steel. A slightly smaller field will suit him this time around as will the 54.5kgs.
1st: No 5 SILVERA 2nd: No3 Jaminzah; 3rd: No10 Balcazar; 4th: No4 Quick Defence
A race for the speedsters down the Flemington straight and we are looking for a little bit of value in SUNDAY ESPACE. Punters can get around $7 across most corporates for the in-form gelding who was super in winning at Moonee Valley over the 955m last time out. Beat Thermal Current and Super Too that day!
1st: No4 SUNDAY ESCAPE 2nd: No2 Malibu Style; 3rd: No1 Ability; 4th: No8 Bullpit
We aren’t jumping off OVERSTEP just yet. The mare was a touch disappointing in the race won by Highland Beat a fortnight ago, however, she was still just over two lengths from the winner. She has form around the likes of Jaws Of Steel and has won twice at Flemington previously. Barrier 17 is a huge worry as its likely she will have to come from the rear of the field but at her best, she is worth an eachway play.
1st: No15 OVERSTEP 2nd: No14 Mantastic; 3rd: No2 Divine Mr Artie; 4th: *SCRATCHED* No3 Recalculate
OZI CHOICE (NEXT BEST) is our on top selection. The gelding has had two runs back from a spell and looks ready to peak third-up. Last preparation he beat the likes of Liten In My Veins who has come back to racing in fine style and was a winner at Moonee Valley last week. Ozi Choice is drawn 10 and does like to race on the speed so whether jockey Dean Yendall presses forward at the start or not could be the key to his chances.
1st: No7 OZI CHOICE 2nd: No14 Urban Ruler; 3rd: No1 Amovatio; 4th: No5 Cool Chap
MR MONACO hit the line hard last start at Sandown and can go one better here today. The son of Monaco Consul was a $26 chance behind hot favourite Lucky For All, however, it couldn’t get out while Mr Monaco did and flashed home to finish second to Mazzuro. Prior to that he smashed them at Pakenham. Is capable of winning this and barrier one should give him a gun run throughout.
1st: No7 MR MONACO 2nd: No4 Mazzuro; 3rd: No10 Bea Tempted; 4th: No3 Greycliffe
Taking a chance on MISS LEONIDAS in the hope she can begin well from barrier two and be close enough to them for most of the trip. Missed the start two runs back when close up behind Egyptian Bullet, which is flying, and then handled the opposition easily at Ballarat after working overtime in the run. Can win.
1st: No12 MISS LEONIDAS 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No9 I Am Someone; 3rd: No6 King’s Authority; 4th: No1 Despatch
