We are relying on two of the State’s best stables to get us the cash with our two standout tips of the day – Team Snowden and Godolphin. Another ‘To Win’ horse is making its debut at the track and we think it will be a winning one while a far more suitable race for Laussel has made it our best bet of the day.
Canterbury is racing on a Soft 7 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit.
TASK AND PURPOSE will strip fitter third-up and is placed well to atone for the two unlucky efforts to start her career. Beaten by a length on this track last start and will appreciate the cut out of the ground. Has done okay on Heavy so interesting to see if she goes to another level on Soft. Key player.
1st: No3 TASK AND PURPOSE 2nd: No1 Ready to Profit; 3rd: No5 Elusive Nature 4th: No8 Vitesse
First starter SNEAKING TO WIN (NEXT BEST BET) is out of the astute Peter Snowden stable and looks set for a big debut going on his trials leading into this. Drawn to get a good run and has shown early speed in trials so expect to be on or near the lead. The son of Snitzel won his last trial at Randwick on the Heavy so a wet track is no concern. Winning hope.
1st: No12 SNEAKING TO WIN 2nd: No5 Intense Focus; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No4 Clearly Now; 4th: No10 Nordicus
Lightly raced three-year-old filly BUFFY can go one better than last start. Beaten by a smart mare in Seasons last start so this race is more to her liking. Drawn near the rail and will be in this for a long way. Has won twice and placed in one other from three starts on a Slow while has also finished in the money on the Heavy. Big show expected.
1st: No5 BUFFY 2nd: No1 Cinq Dames; 3rd: No4 Ready For Love 4th: No2 Excelamour
LAUSSEL (BEST BET) looks perfectly placed and is ready to bounce back into the winner’s circle here today. Beaten by half a length at Randwick last start in metro company behind Jolly Honour and can atone for that defeat here. This field isn’t near as deep as that and the small field will play into her hands. Will be primed for a huge effort and has placed over the track and distance in the past. Serious player.
1st: No5 LAUSSEL 2nd: No6 Smart As; 3rd: No2 Hammond Lane 4th: No1 Iamnui
Beaten by two lengths at Randwick last start, EMPRESS MATILDA will strip fitter second-up here today. Sticking with the Golden Slipper winning combination to take out this winnable race. Ran fourth to Alassio on the Kensingston leading into this and did win second-up last preparation.
1st: No5 EMPRESS MATILDA 2nd: No1 Bella Vella; 3rd: No8 Joan Constance 4th: No11 Unwise
EL DORADO MINE looked impressive when storming home late to get the victory at Warwick Farm last start and can make it successive victories here today. Will settle near the leaders and look for him to kick away coming into the straight. Has plenty of speed and will be in this for a long way.
1st: No11 EL DORADO MINE 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No6 Prima Stella; 3rd: No5 Mad For Art; 4th: No1 Pianissimo
SEABABE is drawn to get the run of the race and looks a great chance in the final event of the program at Canterbury here today. Beaten by 1.4 lengths on this track last start and can atone for that defeat. Is up in class drops down to 52kgs thanks to Jean Van Overmeire’s claim. Could be value.
1st: No10 SEABABE 2nd: No11 Shadal; 3rd: No14 Huangshan 4th: No6 Bochy
