Wednesday Racing Previews & Tips - Canterbury 25th July
Mid-week racing returns to Canterbury and we have found a few value runners that represent good value today in what shapes as a great day of racing.
Great to be back to Canterbury, a track that usually plays fair and we have identified a few leading chances that look to go one better after tasting last start defeats. Leading stables have a few nice chances with our top selection well-placed to breakthrough for his maiden victory.
Canterbury is racing on a Good with the rail +6m Entire Circuit.
Canterbury Race 1 - 12:50PM TAB REWARDS HANDICAP (1550 METRES)
Despite the small field, this opening race of the day - a Maiden over 1550m - looks a great race to start the program. Sticking with the Les Bridge trained I’M A LEGEND who was narrowly beaten by Bobbing at Hawkesbury last start and will look to atone for that defeat here today. Defeated by 0.2 of a length By Monsieur Sisu on this track two starts back. Small field suits, Ready to fire.
1st: No1 I’M A LEGEND; 2nd: No2 Be Mindful; 3rd: No4 Resonare; 4th: No3 My King’s Counsel
Canterbury Race 2 - 1:25PM TRENT HANCOCK PLATE (1200 METRES)
SMART AIN’T HE (NEXT BEST BET) is a lightly-raced three-year-old gelding out of Smart Missile that looks ready to breakthrough for his much-deserved maiden victory here today. Defeated by 1.7 lengths at Warwick Farm last start to go with a solid third two starts back on this track beaten by the talented Sweet Scandal. Drawn to be competitive and will strip fitter, Danger.
1st: No5 SMART AIN’T HE; 2nd: No7 Maria Victoria; 3rd: No4 Safe Landing; 4th: No1 Coltrane
Canterbury Race 3 - 2:00PM ATC HONOURS HINCHINBROOK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Two-year-old Colt DANAWI (BEST BET) out of Exceed And Excel is resuming from a lay off, but looks ready to breakthrough here today after two solid trials leading into his return. Beaten by 1.5 lengths by The Autumn Sun back in April, we are expecting the colt to be full of running and hard to beat going on that effort against a talented galloper. Key player.
1st: No2 DANAWI; 2nd: No1 Exceltic; 3rd: No3 Sneaking To Win; 4th: No4 England
Canterbury Race 4 - 2:35PM DAWN APPROACH STANDING AT DARLEY HANDICAP (1900 METRES)
Looking for a bit of value and sticking with the Gerald Ryan trained KING TOMLOLA to make it successive victories after surviving a protest at Hawkesbury last start defeating Concessions. Led and just held on last start defeating his rivals by a short margin. Drawn wide but has plenty of early speed to burn and cross his rivals and will be in this for a long way. Win won’t shock.
1st: No1 KING TOMLOLA; 2nd: No4 Raqeeq; 3rd: No5 Balmain Boy; 4th: No3 Trafalgar
Canterbury Race 5 - 3:10PM TERRITORIES STANDING AT DARLEY HANDICAP (1550 METRES)
Open race with plenty of chances but hoping FLEETING STRYKE with the good gate draw can storm over the top of them late, with Rachel King on board at a track she has placed in the past. Go on her effort two starts back at Randwick over the 1400m when beaten by 3 lengths by High Mist. Consistent galloper who looks a serious player in an open event.
1st: No7 FLEETING STRYKE; 2nd: No8 Dreams Of Paris; 3rd: No3 Carluca; 4th: No1 Banner Season
Canterbury Race 6 - 3:45PM PKF SYDNEY SPRINT (1100 METRES)
Lightly-raced Lonhro filly ALMANZORA looks well-placed to take out the 1100m dash at Canterbury here today. Has looked good at her two trials leading into her return and did race in some handy races including a Group 2 at Randwick in April. Major contender and the one to beat.
1st: No8 ALMANZORA; 2nd: No1 Liberty Song; 3rd: No11 Blowing Kisses; 4th: No4 Puppet Master
Canterbury Race 7 - 4:20PM VALE NOEL BRACKS SPRINT (1200 METRES)
SMARTEDGE out of the astute Peter Snowden stable looks well-placed to take out the final event here at Canterbury today. Chased hard but found one too good on the day when beaten by 1.3 lengths by Star Of Monson and will be rock hard fit second-up here today. Big show expected.
1st: No6 SMARTEDGE; 2nd: No2 Ever So Natural; 3rd: No8 Bella Vella; 4th: No9 Savvan
