Wednesday Racing Previews & Tips - Ballarat 5th September
Midweek racing returns to Ballarat in what looks as a very open meeting with plenty of chances.
Open program with plenty of chances here at Ballarat but it does look like it could be another winning day for trainer Darren Weir, who has a collection of runners that will prove hard to beat including our best of the day.
Ballarat is racing on a Soft 6 with the rail True Entire Circuit.
Ballarat Race 1 - 12:30PM Suez Ballarat 3YO Maiden Plate (1200 metres)
Open race to start the program but sticking with STARVIRGO who is resuming from a spell here today. Went around in a few handy races at his first preparation and will be ready to fire after a solid trial at Cranbourne leading into this. Leading contender.
1st: No8 STARVIRGO 2nd: No1 Akkadian; 3rd: No10 Relette; 4th: No5 Junipal
Ballarat Race 2 - 1:00PM Hertz Ballarat Maiden Plate (1600 metres)
Chris Waller-trained REPOSITION finished third beaten 2.3 lengths behind Condover Hall at Sandown last start and can bounce back here today. Gets the blinkers for the first time and will be very competitive in today’s field. Ready to win!
1st: No7 REPOSITION 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No9 Villa Fortuna; 3rd No11 Longclaw; 4th: No2 Elgin
Ballarat Race 3 - 1:35PM Magnum Equine Maiden Plate (1400 metres)
Sticking with SUBRAISE who finished strongly at Sandown last start and will strip fitter here today. Will appreciate this class drop and will be the one flashing at them late. Trainer/jockey have a great strike rate when combining. Key Player.
1st: No13 SUBRAISE 2nd: No9 Bill The Bee; 3rd: No2 Lazy Bear; 4th: No5 Rising Thunder
Ballarat Race 4 - 2:10PM Cervus Equipment Three-Years-Old BM70 Handicap (1000 metres)
GOLDEN SCRIPT (BEST BET) is out of the astute Darren Weir stable and looks ready to strike first-up from a spell here today. Ran second in the Sires at Caulfield back in April behind the handy Thrillster last time out before going for a break. Looks to have some talent and will be in this for a long way. Drawn well.
1st: No2 GOLDEN SCRIPT 2nd: No3 John Booke; 3rd: No4 Skidman, 4th: No7 Honeysuckle Choice
Ballarat Race 5 - 2:45PM Bartlett Blinds BM64 Handicap (2200 metres)
AROHATA is a consistent mare that was beaten by Ascot Red at Bendigo last start and will be looking to atone for that length defeat here today. Drops in weight and chances will enhance if the rain comes. Has the form and sure to be very competitive once again.
1st: No7 AROHATA 2nd: No10 Kansas City; No1 By Design; 4th: No2 Crafty Cruiser
Ballarat Race 6 - 3:20PM Porter Plant BM64 Handicap (1200 metres)
UNLIMITED ABILITY (NEXT BEST BET) is a lightly raced gelding that’s looked impressive at her race when strolling to a 2.5 length victory at Moe back in July. Just went down to Nariko last start as a heavily backed favourite before having a month between runs. Has shown plenty of ability and looms as a big danger to his rivals today. The one to beat.
1st: No4 UNLIMITED ABILITY 2nd: No3 Hot Seat; 3rd: No7 Blacklisted; 4th: No2 War Thunder
Ballarat Race 7 - 3:55PM Hygain Winner’s Choice F&M BM70 Handicap (1100 metres)
Drawn to get the run of the race, TWILIGHT SONG is a serious chance here today. Resuming from a break, this mare showed ability last preparation that included wins at Caulfield and Sandown. Raced behind the likes of I Am Excited and She’s So High back in the autumn. Hard to see anything upsetting her today. The one to beat.
1st: No4 TWILIGHT SONG 2nd: No2 Savaju; 3rd: No8 Double the Magic; 4th: No3 Scuzi
Ballarat Race 8 - 4:30PM Sportsbet’s Power Play BM70 Handicap (1500 metres)
LEGALE is out of the astute Hayes & Dabernig stable and looks well placed to bounce back after being beaten by Mount Kilcoy at Caulfield back in July. Did win two on the trot before that defeat and the short break will benefit him. Drawn well, he will go close here today.
1st: No6 LEGALE 2nd: No9 Honeywine; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No11 Seductive Miss; 4th: No1 See Me Fly
Ballarat Race 9 - 5:05PM Hygain Winner’s Choice F&M BM70 Handicap (1300 metres)
SEE ME EXCEED was beaten by 2.5 lengths behind Lady of Flanders at Sandown last start and will appreciate coming back in grade here today. Look for her to settle just behind the speed and watch for her coming home hard in the straight. Big show expected.
1st: No5 SEE ME EXCEED 2nd: No2 Classic Diva; 3rd: No3 Four Sisters; 4th: No10 Our Chiquilla
