Wednesday Racing Previews & Tips - Canterbury 12th September

Midweek racing returns to Canterbury, a track tends to favour gallopers on the speed with its short straight.

Tue, 11 Sep, 7:15 AM

Great to be back at Canterbury, a track that usually plays fair with a very short straight. Our top selection is very consistent and looks well placed to strike today.

Canterbury is racing on a Soft 6 with the rail +8m Entire

R6: 2,4,7

R7: 1,2,11

Canterbury Race 1 - 12:50PM #THERACES Handicap (1250 Metres)

Sticking with the Chris Waller-trained ENGLAND to break through for his maiden victory in the opening event of the program at Canterbury today. Finished just out of the placings when beaten by two lengths by Golden Tycoon on this track back in July. Has trialled well leading into this and will be ready to fire from the gun draw today. Big threat.

1st: No4 ENGLAND 2nd:  No3 Altair; 3rd: No2 Nicco Lad 4th: No6 God Of Thunder

Canterbury Race 2 - 1:25PM TAB.COM.AU Handicap (1250 Metres)

MAGGIE MISS is having her first race start here today and going on her astonishing 12.8 length trial win at Randwick she looks to have some serious speed and could prove tough to catch here. Will settle on the speed and sure to be in this for a long way. Short straight suits, big show expected going on two trial victories.

1st: No5 MAGGIE MISS 2nd: No1 Press Box; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No7 Bring the Magic; 4th: No3 Alison Of Tuffy

Canterbury Race 3 - 2:00PM Everest Carnival Handicap (1100 Metres)

Open race with plenty of chances but sticking with the last start winner HAPPY BUBBLES that’s drawn well and can make it successive victories here today. Looked impressive when winning on debut at Newcastle defeating Failgold by 1.8 lengths, showing a good turn of foot leaving his rivals in awake. Will be the one storming home late and can win again. Rates well!

1st: No4 HAPPY BUBBLES 2nd: No1 Pembroke Castle; 3rd: No7 Major Wager 4th: No6 Patron Black

Canterbury Race 4 - 2:35PM ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1580 Metres)

Bottom weight PLAGIARIST broke his maiden at Kembla last start and a repeat of that performance puts him in serious contention here today. Chased hard to defeat Coltrane by a small margin three weeks ago and has had a trial at Rosehill to sharpen him up for his second career start. Will be competitive and win won’t shock.

1st: No10 PLAGIARIST 2nd: No3 Scream Park 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No7 Smart Ain’t He 4th: No9 Gretzky

Canterbury Race 5 - 3:10PM TAB Rewards Handicap (1900 Metres)

SCRATCHES (BEST BET) is an ultra-consistent mare out of the astute Chris Waller stable that’s racing in great form of late and will be looking to atone her last start defeat on this track. Go on her dominant 2.6 length victory at Newcastle two starts back when drawing away to a soft victory. Has the form and looks hard to beat.

1st: No8 SCRATCHES 2nd: No6 Valentino Rossa; 3rd: No3 Fantastic Man; 4th: No1 Social Element

Canterbury Race 6 - 3:45PM The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1100 Metres)

Lightly raced and consistent DEITY looks one of the good bets on the program today. This Godolphin mare is lightly raced and has been very consistent at all starts to date. Has won two and placed in another and going on her victory at Warwick Farm last start she will be hard to beat here today. Knocked off highly rated stablemate Demerara in a trial recently too. Ticks all the boxes!

1st: No4 DEITY 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No1 Miss Liffey; 3rd: No2 Ellie’s Encore; 4th: No7 Missybeel

Canterbury Race 7 - 4:20PM On Top Of The World Sprint (1100 metres)

Drawn to get the run of the race sees ZA ZI BA hard to beat here today. Looked impressive when winning by 1.8 lengths at Rosehill last start and has tasted success on this track late last year. Likes the sting out the ground. Sticking with her!

1st: No2 ZA ZI BA 2nd: No1 Piracy; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No7 Warranty 4th: No11 Fuel

Canterbury Race 8 - 4:55PM Australian Turf Club Handicap (1250 Metres)

WAGNER won on this track a fortnight ago when opening the program and looks well placed today to close the program with another victory. Proved too good for his rivals when winning by three lengths, defeating Nicco Lad convincingly on the track and looks to have a bright future. Will strip fitter second-up and looks primed to add another victory to his impressive short racing career.

1st: No12 WAGNER 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No9 Eawase; 3rd: No7 Chief In Command; 4th: No3 Bravissimo
