Monday Racing Tips - 17th September

There’s some great racing across the country today and we have identified a few nice horses at Cessnock and Wangaratta that look to have great chances in their respective events.

Sun, 16 Sep, 8:30 AM

Cessnock and Wangaratta are where we find our selections today with our best looking to atone for its last start narrow defeat.

Cessnock is racing on a Good 3 with the rail +3.5m,800m-250m, True remainder.

Wangaratta is a Good 4 with the rail out 3m WP – 1400m, True remainder.

Cessnock Race 1 - 1:00PM Coca-Cola Class 1 Handicap (900 Metres)

Sticking with OLIFANTS to make it back-to-back victories in the opening event of the program at Cessnock. Chased hard and proved too slick for his rivals when winning by 1.3 lengths at Narromine in mid-August. Has the form, is drawn perfectly and races well fresh.

1st: No3 OLIFANTS 2nd:  No2 Lilith; 3rd: No1 Sugar Rock 4th: No5 Kirk Ella

Cessnock Race 4 - 2:45PM Sharp Electronics Group Maiden Plate (1570 Metres)

Lightly raced gelding out of the Kim Waugh stable, HOLY REIGN (NEXT BEST BET) looks to have the right race to break through for his much-deserved maiden victory here today. Finished 3 lengths behind Wild Impact at Newcastle last start and looks perfectly suited in this field to run a big race. Looks ready to win, sticking with him.

1st: No10 HOLY REIGN 2nd:  No6 Famed; 3rd: No12 Flying Bliss; 4th: No7 Lady Mossman (*SCRATCHED*)

Cessnock Race 5 - 3:20PM Coastline Pools Benchmark 58 Handicap (1570 Metres)

This looks like a perfect race for RETRIBUTION to atone for his half length defeat to Shadow Prince at Taree last start. Looked the winner but tired in the final stages to be beaten by the short margin. Will lead and take plenty of catching and with the good gate draw we expect this gelding to be there right at the finish. Key player.

1st: No5 RETRIBUTION 2nd:  No2 Triumph Star; 3rd: No6 Serious Dancer; 4th: No7 Cheeky Bella

Wangaratta Race 5 - 3:30PM BetEasy Class 1 Handicap (1170 METRES)

FUNDING has finished runner-up at his past two starts and looks well placed to bounce back into the winner’s circle here today. Led and kicked hard and after looking like the winner, was nabbed right on the line by Fight For Victory at Echuca last start. Is racing in good form and looks the one to beat.

1st: No3 FUNDING 2nd:  No5 Waiting For A Mate; 3rd: No7 The Big Sheila 4th: No8 Lexinator

Cessnock Race 7 - 4:35PM Cessnock Leagues Club Benchmark 58 Handicap (1150 Metres)

Lightly raced gelding BILL ‘N’ TED *SCRATCHED* looks a serious chance today and will be out to atone his narrow defeat at Muswellbrook three weeks back. Sat a little worse than midfield and although chasing hard, couldn’t reel in eventual winner Flash Stinger when going down by a nose in a tight finish. Did win well at Taree two starts back. In good form, sticking with him.

1st: No6 BILL ‘N’ TED (*SCRATCHED*) 2nd:  No4 Silent Dream; 3rd: No10 Swift Arrival; 4th: No5 Showgals
