Royal Randwick hosts the second running of the world’s richest turf race The TAB Everest and it shapes as an open race with plenty of outstanding sprinters set to clash. Our top pick is a serious galloper and will be hard to beat here today.
Randwick is racing on a Heavy 9 with the rail True.
Tricky race to start the program with many of the babies stepping out for the first time. ANAHEED has had two trails leading into this and won his last trial at Warwick Farm so expect him to be ready to fire first-up from a good gate draw here today. Stable and jockey have a good strike rate when combining. Key player.
1st: No9 ANAHEED 2nd: No7 Zoushack; 3rd: No3 Mesmer; 4th: No5 Valour Elite
Looks a perfect race for AVE at nice value to atone for her narrow last start defeat in today’s Highway Handicap. Stormed home from the tail of the field to just fail to reel in winner Eyesaw when finishing half a length from it three weeks ago. Has been freshened for this and expected to be very competitive once again. Likes the sting out of the ground. Big danger at good odds.
1st: No14 AVE 2nd: No13 The Frick; 3rd No2 Mediterranean; 4th: No4 Lawan
Sticking with last start winner *SCRATCHED* I’M SO SWEET who can make it successive victories here today. Has drawn to get the run of the race and going on her victory at Rosehill last start when she defeated So Taken, she will be very competitive once again. Has the form and should be getting the run of the race. Doesn’t mind the wet either. Can win again!
1st: *SCRATCHED* No3 I’M SO SWEET 2nd: No2 Madam Rouge; 3rd: No1 Cristobal; 4th: No7 I Like it Easy
KAONIC (NEXT BEST BET) excels over this track and has won on the soft going in the past so expect him to be a serious player despite the wide draw here today. Go on his victory on this track two starts back when defeating Shogun Sun by a long neck on a Good surface. Will need a touch of luck from the wide gate but has the finishing burst to storm over the top of them late. Big shoe expected.
1st: No9 KAONIC 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No8 Black on Gold; 3rd: No10 Goodfella; 4th: No1 Sense of Occasion
Great race with a handful of chances but sticking with the consistent VICTOREM to take out the inaugural running of the Kosciuszko. Drawn to get the run of the race sees this gelding perfectly placed to bounce straight into the winner’s circle first up from a break today. Has won five from seven and has saluted twice from three first-up runs. Won the Country Championships back in April and looks set to add another major to his collection.
1st: No5 VICTOREM 2nd: No1 The Monstar; 3rd: No3 After All; 4th: No6 Don’t Give a Damn
PIERETA looks hard to beat in today’s consolation race to the TAB Everest. This galloper has some serious speed and going on his effort when defeating Kementari on this track back in August he will prove hard to beat today. Finished three lengths behind Hartnell in the Group One Epsom Handicap a fortnight back when didn’t quicken as expected. Dropping back in distance suits.
1st: No5 PIERATA 2nd: No3 Jungle Edge; 3rd: No2 Dothraki; 4th: No8 Burning Passion
WHAT A RACE! Seems to be many chances to take out today’s feature event but happy to stick with the 2017 winner REDZEL that’s drawn to get the run of the race and make it consecutive Everest victories here today. Drawn one and set to do no work, he will have the last crack at them in the straight. Excels on a wet surface and the money at several corporates suggests he is nearing his best form again.
1st: No1 REDZEL 2nd: No5 Vega Magic; 3rd: No10 Shoals; 4th: No3 Le Romain
EGG TART (BEST BET) has been racing well without winning of late but does look to have found a very winnable event here today. Beaten by four lengths by wonder mare Winx in the Group One George Main Stakes on this track two starts back before finishing in the placings behind Ace High and It’s Somewhat also on this track a fortnight back. Is due for some luck, stick with her.
1st: No12 EGG TART 2nd: No4 Moss ‘n’ Dale; 3rd: No2 Comin’ Through; 4th: No1 Who Shot Thebarman
Hard to go past in-form HARIPOUR who looks as a serious hope for trainer Darren Weir here today. Has won his past three starts and will be looking to make it four on the trot at his first start on this track. Has won on Soft and placed on the Heavy so the track conditions should suit the Victorian. Stable is firing AND rates well.
1st: No10 HARIPOUR 2nd: No7 Wall of Fire; 3rd: No11 Etah James; 4th: *SCRATCHED* No1 Patrick Erin
ESPERANCE looks as a serious hope in the final event of the program at Randwick. Looked impressive when storming home to just defeat Up Trumpz by a neck at Warwick Farm three weeks back. Has won at his only attempt on a wet surface and despite the wide draw he will be the one flashing at them late. Ready to show best.
1st: No6 ESPERANCE 2nd: No1 Bryan; 3rd: No15 Lucy Rose; 4th: No11 Prince Mayted
