Saturday Racing Previews & Tips - Flemington 3rd November
One of the greatest days on the racing calendar hits us today in what is set to be a huge week of racing at headquarters.
Derby Day has arrived and we look forward to a huge day of racing at Flemington. There are quality races all over the card with four Group Ones highlighted by the Victoria Derby and the Coolmore Stud Stakes. Our top pick appears early in the day and although she will be at short odds, expect her to get the cash.
Flemington is racing on a Good 4 with the rail True.
Flemington Race 1 - 11:45AM The Carbine Club Stakes (1600 Metres)
Drawn to get the run of the race sees last start winner RANIER the one to beat in the opening event of this massive program here today. Found the line strong when defeating Yulong January by half a length at Caulfield last start and will appreciate the bigger Flemington track here today. Big danger.
1st: No5 RANIER; 2nd: No2 Vassilator; 3rd: No4 Quackerjack; 4th: No6 Wild Planet
Flemington Race 2 - 12:20PM Mumm Wakeful Stakes (2000 Metres)
VERRY ELLEGANT (BEST BET) is racing in great form and looks ready to make it successive victories. Looked impressive when storming home to defeat Aristia by half a length at Caulfield last start and looks ready to produce a similar effort today. Has a brilliant turn of foot and looks set to notch another win.
1st: No2 VERRY ELLEGANT; 2nd: No1 El Dorado Dreaming; 3rd No5 Sizzleme; 4th: No4 Aristia
Flemington Race 3 - 1:00PM The TAB Stakes (1200 Metres)
OSBORNE BULLS stormed home on the outside rail to finish third beaten three lengths behind Redzel in The Everest at Randwick a fortnight back. Has a superb record over the distance and will be the one flashing home down the Flemington straight. In solid form and expecting a big effort here today.
1st: No1 OSBORNE BULLS; 2nd: No5 The Monstar; 3rd: No2 Casino Wizard; 4th: No6 Savanna Amour
Flemington Race 4 - 1:40PM Lexus Stakes (2500 Metres)
JAAMEH is in form and looks well placed to take out the Group Three Lexus stakes over 2500m. Chased hard but just failed to reel in Avilius when going down by a nose in an epic finish in the Bart Cummings last time out. Loves racing on this track and has good enough form to take this out. Stick with him.
1st: No10 JAAMEH; 2nd: No11 Northwest Passage; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No8 Runaway; 4th: No12 Yogi
Flemington Race 5 - 2:25PM Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200 Metres)
ZOUSAIN (NEXT BEST BET) resumes from a six-week break but is poised to strike in today’s Group One, The Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m. Finished half a length behind boom galloper The Autumn Sun at Rosehill last start in the Golden Rose and shapes as the one they all need to beat with the perfect draw he has received. Looks a colt with a bright future on and off the track. Super chance.
1st: No2 ZOUSAIN; 2nd: No3 Encryption; 3rd: No5 Long Leaf; 4th: No8 Diplomatico
Flemington Race 6 - 3:05PM Empire Rose Stakes (1600 Metres)
AMPHITRITE is racing in hot form of late and looks hard to beat and ready to make it five straight victories here today. This filly is flying and going on her brilliant Thousand Guineas victory, when flashing home from the second half of the field, she will be very hard to hold out. Drops to 50kgs and sticks to the mile. Hard to hold out.
1st: No15 AMPHITRITE; 2nd: No3 Shillelagh; 3rd: No8 Bring Me Roses; 4th: No13 Oohood
Flemington Race 7 - 3:50PM AAMI Victoria Derby (2500 Metres)
THINKIN’ BIG looks a serious galloper in the making and deserves to be favourite for today’s feature race over the 2500m. Led and proved too smart for his rivals when defeating Chapada by 3 lengths in the Norman Robinson at Caulfield last start and will look to adopt similar tactics here today. Will be in this for a long way with the last furlong the only worry as it’s his first attempt over the distance. Expecting him to stay and be the first one past the post.
1st: No1 THINKIN’ BIG; 2nd: No2 Aramayo; 3rd: No4 Stars Of Carrum; 4th: No11 Sikorsky
Flemington Race 8 - 4:35PM Kennedy Mile (1600 Metres)
Darren Weir’s LAND OF PLENTY will likely settle near the rear and be saved for one big run at them down the long Flemington straight here today. Is an ultra consistent galloper that hasn’t missed a place at his past eight starts. Will be giving them a start rounding the bend but watch for him flashing at them late, just like he did in the Toorak Handicap last time out. Key player in an open event.
1st: No4 LAND OF PLENTY; 2nd: No3 Comin’ Through; 3rd: No2 Le Romain; 4th: No7 Mister Sea Wolf
Flemington Race 9 - 5:20PM Furphy Sprint (1100 Metres)
I AM EXCITED looks the one to beat in the final event. Looked impressive when charging home late to defeat Eduardo by a neck on this track a month back in the Gilgai Stakes, with that galloper franking the form with a win in Group Two company the very next start. Has the form and will be very competitive. The one to beat.
1st: No4 I AM EXCITED; 2nd: No2 Snitty Kitty; 3rd: No1 Booker; 4th: No7 From Within
