It’s Jericho Cup Day at Warrnambool and our top tip is sure to relish the conditions which are thrown up in Australia’s longest flat race. Our expert has also scanned the fields at Grafton and Newcastle too and come up with some strong chances on each respective program with our best of the day a scratching from the Rosehill card yesterday. This mare won impressively first-up and we’re tipping she is staring down the barrel of successive wins.
Grafton is racing on a Soft 5 with the rail in the true position.
Newcastle is racing on a Good 4 with the rail in the true position.
Warrnambool is racing on a Soft 5 with the rail in the true position.
The mare is dropping in class big time and will be hard to beat in this. Trainer Allan Foran went to Doomben last time out with BONNIE SARE (NEXT BEST), however, she couldn’t finish off in a BM75 in the race won by Ruby Guru and finished towards the rear. Likes a bit of sting out of the ground which she gets here and drawn four, she should be in the leading division turning for home.
1st: No1 BONNIE SARE; 2nd: No2 Delacroix; 3rd: No4 Bring Euro; 4th: No3 Light Motion
Taking the punt on *SCRATCHED* LINE UP GIRLS who is having his first start for new trainer Jenny Graham. The gelding is an ex-Gary Moore runner and hasn’t been seen since finishing fourth to Shinju at Gosford on October 4. Led until the final 100m and was swamped late. The drop back in distance is definitely in his favour. Likes to race on the speed too so expect Ben Looker to have him in the firing line.
1st: *SCRATCHED* No2 LINE UP GIRLS; 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No1 Call Me Ready; 3rd: No5 Annie Ethyl; 4th: No10 Rabaab
Scratched from the TAB Highway yesterday to go around in this. LET’S REBELLE (BEST BET) was impressive winning first-up at Port Macquarie for trainer Jenny Graham, benefiting from a good run fourth in transit before peeling out on the home turn and winning under hands and heels. Goes good second-up and has drawn gate five. Gets the benefit of Cejay Graham’s 1.5kg claim.
1st: No3 LET’S REBELLE; 2nd: No4 Passion To Win; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No1 Commandeering; 4th: No2 Water Boy
Is today the day for GIVEN TIME? Well, we definitely think he is a winning chance and are tipping him to beat the favourite Charretera. The four-year-old is resuming from a freshen-up having not raced since September when second at Kembla Grange. Given Time has run five placings in eight career starts and has placed at the distance previously. Interestingly, trainer Chris Waller had three in the race and has scratched two of those. Will be thereabouts at the finish.
1st: No1 GIVEN TIME; 2nd: No4 Charretera; 3rd: No2 The Bald Eagle; 4th: No13 Jazette
The famous Jericho Cup will be a survival of the fittest as these horses do battle in Australia’s longest flat track event. GOLD MEDALS is our on top tip for a few reasons. The won the Grand Annual Steeplechase earlier in the year over 5500m carrying 65.5kgs. He then finished second in the Australian Steeplechase at his next start lumping 69kgs. Carrying the weight won’t be a problem for the nine-year-old and going around on a Soft surface isn’t either as he has won four times in similar conditions. Comes into this with a good sixth in the Listed Sandown Cup last start behind Yogi. Worth a ticket.
1st: No1 GOLD MEDALS; 2nd: No3 The Dominator; 3rd: No4 Truly High; 4th: No9 Havana Haymaker
