Friday Night Racing Previews & Tips - Canterbury 18th January

We are preparing to forgive a few costly last start failures tonight at Canterbury.

Thu, 17 Jan, 12:00 AM

We’re back for night racing at Canterbury and we think the money will be with the leading stables, with the likes of Tony McEvoy and Chris Waller boasting leading hands.

Canterbury is racing on a Good 4 with the rail in the true.

Canterbury Race 1 – 6:15PM #theraces Handicap (1200 Metres)

There was a big boom surrounding JUST ZERENE on debut but it didn’t quite go according to plan. The Tony McEvoy runner was sensationally backed to win at Doomben on December 29 and also to win the Magic Millions in futures betting, however, the filly couldn’t get into the race won by stablemate Sun City. She finished sixth and will be far better for the outing. From two, Kerrin McEvoy should have her close to the speed. Worth another chance.

1st: No9 JUST ZERENE 2nd: No13 Carthars; 3rd: No1 Antonio Pride; 4th No5 Deep Chill

Canterbury Race 2 - 6:45PM Friday Night Racing Handicap (1100 Metres)

VITESSE gets the right race to break her maiden. The Chris Waller filly finishing in the placings at her two runs prior to going for a break. On both occasions, she was at good odds and although this trip may be a bit short for her, she is worth the game in what appears to be a fairly wide open affair. Gets the J Mac on board which is a big plus.

1st: No10 VITESSE 2nd: No6 Press Box; 3rd: No3 Rancho Notorious; 4th: No2 Bucephalus

Canterbury Race 3 - 7:15PM 2019 Membership Handicap (1900 Metres)

Prepared to give RE EDIT another chance after it was heavily backed last time out at this track on January 9. Smashed in betting to start an odds-on favourite, the daughter of Camelot didn’t come on in the straight to finish fifth to Cossetot. James McDonald stated that she didn’t appear to appreciate racing in between runners. From gate two, she should be closer to the speed but expect J Mac to have her off the rails and in clear running. Give another go.

1st: No1 RE EDIT 2nd: No3 Nobu; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No4 Picaro; 4th: No6 Construe

Canterbury Race 6 - 8:45PM TAB Rewards Handicap (1550 Metres)

Drawn to get the run of the race and take a power of beating sees BRING THE MAGIC the one to beat here tonight. Resumed from a break with a last stride victory defeating Killer Instinct by a nose at Randwick Kensington. Will strip fitter second-up and J Mac sticks. Top pick.

1st: No4 BRING THE MAGIC 2nd: No5 Everlasting Love; 3rd: No1 Shantou; 4th: No8 Sazavee
