A few key players going around at Port Macquarie and Canberra that look ready to fire here today as we look to start the month on a high. Our top pick will be out to atone her unlucky last start effort when seeing clear galloping room late. Has a good turn of foot so watch for her late.

Port Macquarie is racing on a Good 4 with the rail out 3m entire.

Canberra is racing on a Soft 5 with the rail +8m entire.

Canberra Race 2 - 2:18PM Seears Workwear Canberra Sprint (1000 Metres)

STEPHAN (NEXT BEST BET) is resuming from a 24-week spell and going on his form last preparation looks well placed to bounce straight back into the winner’s stall here today. Has won his past four starts on the track so it’s fair to say, he’s a track specialist and with a great record over the distance, he looks primed to run a huge race. Has the form and stable will have him ready to fire.

1st: No2 STEPHAN 2nd: No3 Who’s Knocking; 3rd: No4 Lucky Symbol; 4th: No8 Newtown Is Coming

Port Macquarie Race 4 - 3:10PM Schweppes Maiden Handicap (1500 Metres)

Looks a perfect race for the Kris Lees-trained MAGIC CHARLEE third-up here today. Has placed at both runs to date and will be rock hard fit and ready to fire over the 1500m today. Finished less than a length behind Hyper at Tamworth last start. Key player.

1st: No1 MAGIC CHARLEE 2nd: No6 Queen Of Manhattan; 3rd: No2 Tickets For Youth; 4th: No3 Bandjin Rain

Port Macquarie Race 5 - 3:45PM John Oxley Motors Benchmark 58 Handicap (1500 Metres)

Drawn to get the run of the race sees our second Kris Lees-trained galloper LONDINIUM (BEST BET) the one to beat. Didn’t have much luck in running at Coffs Harbour last start but made up good ground late to fill in the placings. Has a good turn of foot so watch for this filly storming home in the straight. Ready to win.

1st: No4 LONDINIUM 2nd: No3 East Esplanade; 3rd: No6 Metre Eater; 4th: No5 Victory In Paris

Port Macquarie Race 7 - 4:55PM MNCRA Championship Preview - CL 4 HCP (1200 Metres)

Hard to go past DUAL ESCAPE that’s on the quick back-up but does look the one to beat. Chased hard and hit the front with a furlong to go before being run down to finish two lengths behind Lucciola Belle on this track last time out. Has plenty of early toe so expect her to cross them when the gates open and take a forward position. Major player.

1st: No2 DUAL ESCAPE 2nd: No1 Bright Future; 3rd: No5 Phelpedo; 4th: No9 Monaco Sniper

Canberra Race 7 - 5:13PM TAB Federal - Benchmark 60 Handicap (1400 Metres)

Sticking with ACTON SHALE that’s on the quick back-up after finishing fifth in TAB Highway grade last start. Drops back to more a suitable race and going on his narrow defeat behind Malachi Crunch at Moruya two starts back, he will be ready to run a huge race. Draws to do no work and is the one to beat.

1st: No2 ACTON SHALE 2nd: No6 Luga Lad; 3rd: No8 Admire Gratzi; 4th: No11 Alpine King
