Saturday Racing Previews & Tips - Flemington 16th February
Lightning Stakes Day at Flemington and what a ripper card of racing we have on our hands.
Looks a great program at Flemington with the Group One Black Caviar Lightning Stakes the feature of today’s program. Our top selection is racing in red hot form and looking to make it three wins on the trot and we can’t see why not.
Flemington is racing on a Good 4 with the rail out 9m Entire Circuit.
Flemington Race 1 - 12:35PM DeRucci Trophy (1600 Metres)
MOUNTAIN BREATH finished 2.8 lengths behind Island Daze making up good ground late at Mooney Valley last start and looks poised to be competitive in the opening event. D Oliver sticks and that’s good enough for us. Danger.
1st: No9 MOUNTAIN BREATH 2nd: No8 Herecomesmybaby; 3rd: No11 Cincinnati Red; 4th: No7 Ocean Deep
Flemington Race 2 - 1:10PM Lawn Handicap (2000 Metres)
SCHABAU (BEST BET) lightly raced import that’s yet to miss a place from seven starts to date, winning three on the way. Won well at his first start in Australia narrowly defeating Prince Ziggy on this track. Looks to be a smart galloper. The one to beat.
1st: No3 SCHABAU 2nd: No1 Hang Man; 3rd: No2 Looks Like Elvis; 4th: No5 Surprise Baby
Flemington Race 3 - 1:45PM Singapore Turf Club Trophy (1200 Metres)
Open race with plenty of chances but sticking with MYSTYKO that’s won his past three starts and looks ready to make it four on the trot in today’s slightly tougher affair. Chased hard to defeat Redcore by a length at Caulfield a fortnight back. Has the form and will be in it for a long way. Can win again.
1st: No9 MYSTYKO 2nd: No7 Well Sprung; 3rd: No6 Order Of Command; 4th: No5 Enigman
Flemington Race 4 - 2:20PM Talindert Stakes (1100 Metres)
MICROPHONE (NEXT BEST BET) finished a length behind the talented I Am Immortal in the Blue Diamond Preview for the boys at Caulfield last start. Will strip fitter third-up and with the gun gate draw we expect this colt to be firing today. Rates well.
1st: No1 MICROPHONE 2nd: No2 Steal My Kisses; 3rd: No5 Excess Funds; 4th: No9 Art Collection
Flemington Race 5 - 2:55PM The TAB Vanity (1400 Metres)
FUNDAMENTALIST just finished out the placings when resuming from a break at Caulfield and with that run under her belt, expect improvement second-up here today. A filly that’s won five from 13 and nearly won the Thousand Guineas before being dive-bombed by Amphitrite. Will give this an almighty shake. Stick.
1st: No4 FUNDAMENTALIST 2nd: No1 Amphitrite; 3rd: No6 Goldifox; 4th: No2 Verry Elleegant
Flemington Race 6 - 3:30PM The Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy (1600 Metres)
The Mick Price-trained HEPTAGON is racing in fine form of late and looks well suited to make it back-to-back victories here today. Looked impressive when defeating Streets of Avalon by 2.2 lengths at Caulfield last start and will be out to produce a similar performance here. Hard to toss.
1st: No2 HEPTAGON 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No15 Groundbreak; 3rd: No7 Gold Fields; 4th: No10 Antah
Flemington Race 7 - 4:10PM CS Hayes Stakes (1400 Metres)
O’TAUTO is a lightly raced gelding that’s showing a stack of talent and will be the one they all need to beat over the 1400m here today. Ran home strong on this track last start to defeat Blinder by a short margin. Faces his toughest test to date. Major player.
1st: No11 O’TAUTO 2nd: No7 Mickey Blue Eyes; 3rd: No14 Age Of Chivalry; 4th: No10 Scottish Rogue
Flemington Race 8 - 4:50PM Black Caviar Lightning (1000 Metres)
Speed machine and race favourite SUNLIGHT resumes from a 15-week break. She returns to the scene of her last victory where she beat in the boys in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes. A filly with a stack of ability that’s won eight out of her 12 starts, she looks poised to rack up win number nine here today. Rates well.
1st: No10 SUNLIGHT 2nd: No8 Graff; 3rd: No4 In Her Time; 4th: No1 Osbourne Bulls
Flemington Race 9 - 5:30PM Japan Racing Association Trophy (1400 Metres)
MANTASTIC is resuming from a 25-week layoff and is having his first start for new trainer Chris Waller. Has come up with a good gate draw and expecting him to be very competitive. Has missed a place just once in nine career starts. Big watch.
1st: No15 MANTASTIC 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No14 King’s Command; 3rd: No9 Seaburge; 4th: No5 Flow
