Saturday Racing Tips: Doomben Best Bets - 16th February
The Gollan factor will be instrumental at Doomben on Saturday.
We have found some talented horses to follow in the Sunshine State this weekend including one out of the Tony Gollan yard, which pounded its rivals by six lengths last time out!
Doomben is racing on a Good 4 with the rail out 2m the entire circuit.
Doomben Race 5 - 4:02PM (AEDT) Tropical Fresh Class 3 Plate (1110 Metres)
SHALWA looks a good bet in this race despite facing a step up in class. The ex-Victoria is now in the hands of Tony Gollan and couldn’t have been more impressive first-up at Ipswich where he won by six lengths. Had good formlines down south prior to come here. Drawn one, he will get the gun run on the speed and be extremely hard to hold out.
1st: No11 SHALWA 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No9 Winter Passage; 3rd: No4 Beacon; 4th: No3 Raiden
Doomben Race 8 - 6:05PM (AEDT) Asian Plus Class 6 Plate (1350 Metres)
David Vandyke is a master at preparing horses for a first-up tilt and that’s exactly what we have here with EMINENT. The gelding won two of his last three starts prior to going for a spell, with the last of those being back in May last year when scoring at Ipswich. Eminent warmed up for this with a narrow second to the talented Gracida in a Gold Coast trial a month back. Looks a handy customer and could pay to follow.
1st: No2 EMINENT 2nd: No4 Impasse; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No12 Our Beebee; 4th: *SCRATCHED* No5 Sizzling Babe
Doomben Race 9 - 6:35PM (AEDT) TAB Open Handicap (1110 Metres)
SNOOPY landed the money in a strong performance last time out and is going around again at reasonable odds here. Sat on the speed and did work in registering a record time in winning at Eagle Farm over 1200m on Jan 19. Prior to pushed Awesome Pluck all the way over 1000m. Michael Murphy’s 2kg claim helps and barrier six is reasonable considering he should push forward at the start. Value.
1st: No2 SNOOPY 2nd: No4 Tumbler; 3rd: No5 Spurcraft; 4th: No1 Cannyescent
