Wednesday Sandown Racing Previews & Tips - 20th March
A talented mare has caught our eye and shapes as the best bet on the card despite being first-up.
Strong midweek meeting at Sandown (Lakeside) with a few in-form gallopers poised to strike. Our top pick is first-up from a 20-week spell but does look to have the right race to bounce straight into the winner’s circle. Stick with her.
Sandown is racing on a Good 4 with the rail true.
Sandown Race 1 - 3:25PM Ladbrokes Handicap (2100 Metres)
DUNLANI chased hard from the tail of the field to defeat Blue Bear by half a length at Mooney Valley three weeks back and looks well placed to take out the opening event of the program. Maps to get back but will be storming home.
1st: No4 DUNLANI 2nd: No3 Stormy Shore; 3rd: No1 Pelonomena; 4th: No6 Hot Blonde
Sandown Race 2 - 4:00PM Spicer Thoroughbreds Plate (1300 Metres)
Sticking with CHAP’S DREAM who finished six lengths behind Diamond Effort at Cranbourne last start. Winner was too good on the day, but this lightly raced filly chased hard and isn’t too far away from breaking through and we hope today’s the day. Looks to have found the right race.
1st: No4 CHAP’S DREAM 2nd: No2 Havashout; 3rd: No3 Hurricane Fighter; 4th: No8 Skyway Star
Sandown Race 3 - 4:30PM Blue Star Print Plate (1300 Metres)
CHENIER is on debut and being a Godolphin horse we expect this colt to be ready to fire at his debut today. Has drawn well and the early money has come for it since the markets opened. Win won’t shock as the Anthony Freedman stable has already captured the Blue Diamond with Lyre for the Royal Blue.
1st: No3 CHENIER 2nd: No1 Arctic Wolf; 3rd: No5 Side Hustle; 4th: No4 Mozella
Sandown Race 4 - 5:00PM Yulong Handicap (1200 Metres)
SEE ME EXCEED (BEST BET) is resuming from a 20-week layoff but does look the clear top pick first up over 1200m. Did finish a length behind Lady Of Flanders at Caulfield last year when first-up and looks hard to beat with reports suggesting she’s ready to explode. Has found a much easier assignment and will take a power of beating. The one to beat.
1st: No5 SEE ME EXCEED 2nd: No3 Ritorno; No6 Big Night Out; 4th: No2 More Than Exceed
Sandown Race 5 - 5:30PM Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1600 Metres)
SAVVY OAK (NEXT BEST BET) will take a power of beating at Sandown today. Loved the way he knuckled down in the straight when finishing half a length behind Jungle Fish in a blanket go at Pakenham. Will strip fitter second-up and expected to prove hard to beat over the mile.
1st: No1 SAVVY OAK 2nd: No2 Explicitly; 3rd: No5 Pressure; 4th: No7 Feather
Sandown Race 6 - 6:00PM The Big Screen Company Handicap (1400 Metres)
TOORAK WARRIOR has placed at both his starts since resuming from a break and looks the one to beat third-up here today. Has drawn to get the run of the race and will be out to atone his 1.2 length defeat to Jumbo Ozaki who should have won in town over the weekend. Has the form.
1st: No4 TOORAK WARRIOR 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No5 Akamon; 3rd: No3 Hoster; 4th: No6 Stocktaka
Sandown Race 7 - 6:30PM Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1300 Metres)
HEIR TO THE THRONE is a lightly raced gelding that’s resuming from an 11-week spell and looks to have found a very winnable race first up here today. Finished 2 lengths behind Diplomac Jack at Flemington at his previous start in January. Drawn wide but has a touch of class and will be in this for a long way.
1st: No3 HEIR TO THE THRONE 2nd: No4 Won Ball; 3rd: No5 Mount Tabora; 4th: No2 Lord Tennyson
Sandown Race 8 - 7:00PM Ladbrokes Multiverse Handicap (1400 Metres)
I REMEMBER YOU finished a neck away from taking out the Group Three Vamos Stakes at Launceston last start and looks poised to give this an almighty shake. Has drawn to get the run of the race and expecting this mare to be a big hit like her namesake.
1st: No2 I REMEMBER YOU 2nd: No1 Temple Of Boom; 3rd: No5 Ice Girl; 4th: No3 Charlayne
