Saturday Racing Previews & Tips - Randwick 6th April
Godolphin is set to dominate Day 1 of The Championships.
Day 1 of The Championships and what a cracking day on the punt we have coming up! It’s one of those days where it could either be rocks or diamonds but our selections today are a mix of favourites and value runners. Our best of the day goes around in the opening event and comes out of the powerful James Cummings stable.
Randwick is racing on a Soft 6 with the rail true.
Randwick Race 1 - 12:10PM Widden Kindergarten Stakes (1100 Metres)
The good price is gone already for ATHIRI (BEST BET) but she does look the one. Chased the stablemate Kiamichi all-the-way down the straight in the Magic Night but couldn’t reel her in, with history now showing that horse did a similar thing seven days later in the Slipper. Athiri did pull up with thumps after her last start so could have finished closer. Backed from $3.10 already. Get on before red figures are offered.
1st: No8 ATHIRI 2nd: No1 Bivouac; 3rd: No3 All Cylinders; 4th: No9 Evening Slippers
Randwick Race 2 - 12:45PM Cactus Imaging Carbine Club Stakes (1600 Metres)
Going for a bit of value in this race with the shape of PURPLE SECTOR to beat the favoured runners. The John Thompson-trained runner was a solid fourth to The Autumn Sun in the Hobartville three starts back before finishing distanced to that galloper in the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas. Was knocked out of it at Randwick and may not have appreciated the Heavy last time. Could be value.
1st: No4 PURPLE SECTOR 2nd: No1 Ringerdingding; 3rd: No2 Dealmaker; 4th: No5 The August
Randwick Race 3 - 1:20PM TAB Adrian Knox Stakes (2000 Metres)
AMANGIRI looks to be a top horse in the making and can make an impression in this. The Team Hawkes runner gives away experience to most of her rivals but has won twice from three career runs. Finished second on debut to Final Award in record time on the Kenso before winning on that track on March 6 beating Rexx, with that runner coming out and winning at Gosford on Thursday. Led throughout to win by 5.22 lengths last start. Barrier 19 is a concern.
1st: No6 AMANGIRI 2nd: No5 Maracaibo; 3rd: No3 Zalatte; 4th No10 Romani Girl
Randwick Race 4 - 1:55PM Newhaven Park Country Championships Final (1400 Metres)
NOBLE BOY has been the favourite for this race for quite some time and is definitely the one to beat. Finished a beaten favourite in the Goulburn heat but bounced back strongly to take out the Wildcard at Muswellbrook. Has won five from six, maps to get back a little worse than midfield but possesses a huge finish.
1st: No1 NOBLE BOY 2nd: No14 La Scopa; 3rd: No3 Al Mah Haha; 4th: No13 Bennelong Dancer
Randwick Race 5 - 2:35PM Schweppes Chairman’s Quality (2600 Metres)
Playing around the favourites with our top selection – ONE FOOT IN HEAVEN. The Chris Waller-trained gelding has been good in three runs back from a spell and appears like the 2600m will suit down to the ground. Came from last to finish fourth in the Manion Cup behind Midterm and meets Shraaoh (3rd in that race) 3kg better off. Eachway all day!
1st: No12 ONE FOOT IN HEAVEN 2nd: No14 Shraaoh; 3rd: No19 Supernova; 4th: No8 Vin De Dance
Randwick Race 6 - 3:15PM Inglis Sires’ (1400 Metres)
MICROPHONE is our on top tip in what is a very difficult race. The Godolphin runner chased the stablemate Kiamichi all the way down the straight but couldn’t reel in Kiamichi in the Golden Slipper last time out. Can handle the wet track and is a professional racehorse. Was dominant coming off the speed in the Skyline Stakes.
1st: No2 MICROPHONE 2nd: No12 Loving Gaby; 3rd: No8 Spring Loaded; 4th: No1 Castelvecchio
Randwick Race 7 - 3:55PM Harrolds Australian Derby (2400 Metres)
Mike Moroney looks to have a great chance to capture the Derby and of his two runners, we are backing ARROGANT (NEXT BEST). The son of Ocean Park did all the work outside the leader in the Rosehill Guineas and went down fighting when a narrow second to champion colt The Autumn Sun. Will be on the speed and is set to fight out the finish again.
1st: No4 ARROGANT 2nd: No5 Chapada; 3rd: No3 In A Twinkling; 4th: No8 Global Exchange
Randwick Race 8 - 4:35PM Aquis T.J Smith Stakes (1200 Metres)
OSBORNE BULLS is ready to secure the first Group One of his career. A member of the all-conquering James Cummings stable, the gelding is a backmarker so expect to see him out the back approaching the home bend. Possesses a brilliant finish on him as evidenced by his narrow seconds in the Lightning and Newmarket Handicaps of late. Smaller field definitely suits.
1st: No7 OSBORNE BULLS 2nd: No2 Trapeze Artist; 3rd: No4 Pierata; 4th: No5 Vega Magic
Randwick Race 9 - 5:15PM The Star Doncaster Mile (1600 Metres)
What a great race! Godolphin is set to snare another major here with HARTNELL our on top selection. The old boy has been going great and arguably should have gone close to winning the All-Star Mile had Willy Buick not gone for inside runs. Won the Epsom under these conditions back in the Spring in record time. Adaptable to any surface and will be there at the finish.
1st: No1 HARTNELL 2nd: No3 Alizee; 3rd: No20 Brutal; 4th: No18 Fundamentalist
Randwick Race 10 - 5:50PM Official memorabilia P.J Bell Stakes (1200 Metres)
Wide open affair to finish. We are going with a Cummings quinella to round out the day with MULTAJA our on top tip just in front of Laburnum. Multaja relished the wet going when coming from the back to score impressively at Hawkesbury last start. Drops 6kgs for this and will get the sting out of the ground.
1st: No12 MULTAJA 2nd: No15 Laburnum; 3rd: No10 Madam Rouge; 4th: No9 Mizzy
