Sunday Racing Tips - 5th May
Danny Williams’ boutique stable provides us with our best bet of the day in what hopefully gives us a winning end to the week.
Our expert has done the form for Sapphire Coast and Bendigo and come up with five sensational selections for today’s racing. Our best of the bunch is early on at the Sapphire Coast and won’t be going around at odds of $26 like it did last start. Should go close with luck.
Sapphire Coast is racing on a Good 4 with the rail in the true.
Bendigo is racing on a Soft 5 with the rail out 8m the entire circuit.
Bendigo Race 1 - 12:55PM Oncore Payroll Systems Maiden Plate (1000 Metres)
Taking a punt on JIMENEZ (NEXT BEST BET) being fit enough first-up from a break. Trainer Mick Kent’s horses are flying at the moment and this guy looks classy enough on what we’ve seen to put on top in this. Has only had the two runs and finished seven to Brutal in Listed company back in August before going for a break. The winner has subsequently gone on to win the Doncaster Mile so the form has been well and truly franked. Drawn three, Jimenez should map close to the speed and be hard to hold out.
1st: No6 JIMENEZ 2nd: No1 Ardeeo; 3rd: No3 Celeritate Regem; 4th: No5 Invincible King
Sapphire Coast Race 2 - 1:25PM Tathra Beach Country Club Maiden Plate (900 Metres)
We think GUNZAR (BEST BET) is worth a few dollars in this. Trained by astute mentor Danny Williams, Gunzar has had just the one career outing when finishing fourth to Moore Euros at Moruya on April 9. The form has stood up somewhat with the runner-up Pauper finishing in the placings at Wagga on Friday after being heavily tried. This gelding is having a month between runs but with race experience and the booking of Nick Heywood, he is our on top choice. Should be on the speed throughout.
1st: No1 GUNZAR 2nd: No10 Tycoon Tily; 3rd: No9 She Gives A Damn; 4th: No3 Kruptable
Bendigo Race 2 - 1:30PM Bendigo Mazda 2YO Maiden Plate (1400 Metres)
The filly FIORENTE’S GIRL is sure to benefit from a much easier assignment compared to what she faced last time out. The Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig-trained two-year-old ran into a potential star in the shape of Super Seth at Caulfield when she finished sixth. She found the line fairly on that occasion. At her only other start she finished third to Geraldine’s Jewel who beat her home again last time out. Gets an extra 200m to deal with here while Jamie Kah is booked for the ride. Like!
1st: No10 FIORENTE’S GIRL 2nd: No1 Independent Road; 3rd: No7 Warning; 4th: No14 Hackeress
Sapphire Coast Race 4 - 2:40PM Merimbula RSL Benchmark 58 Handicap (900 Metres)
Allan McRae representative BAY OF MODENA can return from a break a winner in this race over the sprint trip. The five-year-old hasn’t raced since mid-December when she finished a narrow second to Worldy Pleasure at Orange. Bay Of Modena has won first-up in the past, likes to race on the speed and can do work in her races. Expect Brendan Ward to push forward from gate seven. Competitive.
1st: No4 BAY OF MODENA 2nd: No7 Bitofastar; 3rd: No8 More Euros; 4th: No12 Highly Charged
Sapphire Coast Race 7 - 4:30PM Club Sapphire Class 3 Handicap (1200 Metres)
This is one of the more interesting runners at the Sapphire Coast today. Trainer Luke Pepper thought enough of MAHALO to take him to Warwick Farm for his first run since arriving in Australia from New Zealand. The mare went around at Warwick Farm on April 17 and was never in the race won by High Shine after racing near the tail. Drops back a mile in class for this and will benefit from a 2kg claim. Keep safe.
1st: No1 MAHALO 2nd: No5 Judy In Disguise; 3rd: No3 Eurosay; 4th: No4 El Nieto
