Monday Racing Tips - 6th May
Mondays don’t get too much better than a Cup Day. This time from the Alice, Savatoxl is the headline act of the day and will start favourite in the feature.
Alice Springs Cup Day is sure to lighten up your Monday of punting and is complimented by a few solid country meetings. But we will focus on a three-year-old excitement machine in the Red Centre’s feature as well as a few picks from rain-affected tracks Benalla and Grafton.
Alice Springs is a Good (sand) with the rail in the true.
Benalla is a Soft 7 with the rail out 3m 800m – 400m, true remainder.
Grafton is a Soft 5 with the rail +3m the entire circuit.
Benalla Race 3 - 1:30pm Benalla Timber Products 3yo Maiden Plate (1206 Metres)
A tasty each-way price is available about THIS SKILLED CAT which arguably should not be a maiden. On debut, he was beaten only 2.5 lengths, after being caught wide early, by now half-a-million-dollar earner Noble Boy, which looks stakes bound. Since, he’s been unlucky at Wodonga and got too keen at Seymour. A recent trial was excellent leading into this suitable first up assignment.

Grafton Race 4 - 2:35pm Grafton Hire Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1710 Metres)
We can “safely” say that WITHOUT RISK (BEST BET) is the best of the day! The lightly-raced four-year-old was beaten only a length by smart three-year-old filly Guise, out Chris Waller’s yard, last start at the Gold Coast. Guise has since come out and won in devastating fashion at Caloundra and will start as a favourite in the Queensland Oaks. A run up to form and Without Risk will be hard to beat.

Grafton Race 6 - 3:45pm Big River Air Benchmark 66 Handicap (1410 Metres)
THEY CALL ME ROSE is also nominated for a 0-70 at the Gold Coast on Wednesday but this appears to be the easier option which is why we’re making her a bet. She drops in class significantly and this will be the mare’s easiest race all preparation. The mare by Duporth tends to do her best work fresh and comes into this off the back of a seven-week break.

Benalla Race 9 - 4:30pm Bet365 Official Price Guarantee Bm58 Handicap (1206 Metres)
An excellent fresh performer which doesn’t mind getting his toe into the ground is CAREERING AWAY. He is likely to get an uncontested lead with other speed in the race drawn more towards the carpark. 1206m might be short of his most suitable distance but the gelding’s recent trial at Cranbourne tells us that he is forward enough to run a race at an each-way price.

Alice Springs Race 8 - 5:00pm Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup (2000 Metres)
Not too many horses anywhere can boast a record of eight wins from nine start but SAVATOXL can. He continues to dominate from the front by breaking the hearts of his rivals. The gelding also broke the Alice Springs 1600m track record in the NT Guineas two back. He’s by speed sire Kuroshio but out of a stamina-packed female family so stepping out to 2000m first time should not be an issue.
