Wednesday Canterbury Racing Previews & Tips - 3rd July
Blake Shinn has been on fire over the past few months and is charged with guiding our best bet of the day home at Canterbury.
We return to Canterbury for a solid Wednesday meeting and we have identified a few serious chances that will prove hard to beat. Our top selection is resuming from a spell and looks to have found the perfect race to jump straight back into the winner’s stall. Perfectly placed, gets the Waller-Shinn polish and looks hard to toss.
Canterbury is racing on a Heavy 9 with the rail +3m entire.
Canterbury Race 1 - 12:50PM Australian Turf Club (1100 Metres)
Hard to go past the lightly raced Redoute’s Choice filly BRAZILICA that’s resuming from a 34-week spell in the opening event of the program at Canterbury today. Did win her debut impressively back in October last year before filling a placing at Rosehill at her next start before hitting the paddock. Looks to have a touch of class.
1st: No4 BRAZILICA 2nd: No6 Lagarde 3rd: No2 Koonunga 4th: No3 Silver Melody
Canterbury Race 2 - 1:25PM Press Statement @ Vinery Handicap (1200 Metres)
MANDELA has had four trials leading into his debut today and we expect this Sebring colt to prove hard to beat. Did win his latest trial by 1.3 lengths and looks a readymade galloper. Drawn to get the run of the race.
1st: No7 MANDELA 2nd: No8 Most Welcome; 3rd: No2 Exceed the Stars; 4th: No1 Memphis Rock
Canterbury Race 3 - 2:00PM ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1200 Metres)
Open race with a stack of chances but stick with the debutant MISS SURE SHOT that’s out of the Snowden stable and has had the benefit of three trials leading into her first competitive race. Jockey T Berry was on board at her previous trial and gets the nod today. Finished second in a trial to Pin Sec back in February before that galloper came out to win the Black Opal. Can run a big race first-up.
1st: No8 MISS SURE SHOT 2nd: No6 Lady Herbert; 3rd: No2 Havin’ Fun 4th: No13 Zouriana
Canterbury Race 4 - 2:35PM TAB Handicap (1250 Metres)
Hard to go past HAUT BRION HER (BEST BET) that’s resuming from a 30-week layoff and has had two solid trials leading into her return here today over the 1250m. Just needs to bring her A-game to be too good for this lot. Will take plenty of beating and two of the best in Chris Waller and Blake Shinn are combining here. Beat Wagner in a recent trial. Top pick.
1st: No3 HAUT BRION HER 2nd: No4 On Her Word; 3rd: No7 Bedtime Stories 4th: No5 Wimlah
Canterbury Race 5 - 3:10PM Ranvet Power Formula Handicap (1250 Metres)
EMBRACER (NEXT BEST BET) led and proved way too good for his rivals on this track last start and will be out to make it back-to-back victories. Lightly raced Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt that’s yet to miss a place from his five starts to date, winning two on the way. Has plenty of early toe and likely to lead and be hard to run down. Sticking.
1st: No2 EMBRACER 2nd: No1 Metamorphic; 3rd: No3 Exceltic; 4th: No7 Golly Miss Solly
Canterbury Race 6 - 3:45PM Frosted @ Darley Handicap (1900 Metres)
ATTORNEY is a lightly raced gelding out the astute Matthew Smith stable that’s looking to make it successive wins. Held on to defeat Moana Jewel by less than a length at Newcastle first-up from a long spell and despite the wide draw we expect him to be fighting out the finish today overt the 1900m. Big watch.
1st: No5 ATTORNEY 2nd: No6 Bringagem; 3rd: No2 Pandemonium; 4th: No4 Dylan’s Romance
Canterbury Race 7 - 4:20PM Canterbury League Club Handicap (1550 Metres)
VIVE MARIE was narrowly beaten behind Travencore last time out and that horse has franked the form with a metro placing last Saturday at Rosehill. Does have a good turn of foot so watch for her storming home in the final furlong. Rates well.
1st: No9 VIVE MARIE 2nd: No11 Art of More; 3rd: No7 Weekend Affair 4th: No2 Screamarr
