Wednesday Canterbury Racing Previews & Tips - 24th July
Midweek racing returns to Canterbury and we are expecting the leading trainers to dominate.
We return to Canterbury this Wednesday afternoon and are tipping the Godolphin stable of James Cummings, who is in search of 100 metro winners, will be in for a big day. Our top pick looked ultra-impressive when saluting by over three lengths at Warwick Farm last start and looks poised to go back-to-back. Stick with him!
Canterbury is racing on a Soft 5 with the rail +6m entire.
Canterbury Race 1 - 12:50PM Hallowed Crown @ Darley Plate (1100 Metres)
Sticking with *SCRATCHED* LEO that has a run under his belt in a race that sees a number of first starters going around. This Peter Snowden galloper did produce the best final sectionals in the race and going on that we expect this colt to be fit and ready to fire second-up. Keep safe in an open event.
1st: *SCRATCHED* No7 LEO 2nd: No5 Faethm; 3rd: No10 Savoury; 4th: No9 Napster
Canterbury Race 2 - 1:25PM ANZ Bloodstock News Plate (1100 Metres)
BOUND TO WIN is a first starter from the astute Snowden stable that’s ready to fire at her debut after the two solid trial victories. Early money suggests she is ready to go. Respect.
1st: No2 BOUND TO WIN 2nd: No3 Enamour; 3rd: *SCRATCHED* No1 Best Stone; 4th: *SCRATCHED* No8 Press Week
Canterbury Race 3 - 2:00PM ATC Foundation Handicap (1550 Metres)
Open race with a stack of chances but sticking with the last start winner *SCRATCHED* HELGA to go back-to-back. This Les Bridge-trained filly has a good turn of foot so expect to see her coming at her rivals in the final furlong like she did at Warwick Farm last start. Gets in well with the 3kg claim.
1st: *SCRATCHED* No3 HELGA 2nd: No1 Missybeel; 3rd: No5 Monegal; 4th: No7 Southern Romance
Canterbury Race 4 - 2:35PM PKF Sydney Handicap (1900 Metres)
The Godolphin army is represented with the last start winner *SCRATCHED* WATCHDOG who steps out to 1900m for the first time. Well backed late and got the job done at Warwick Farm on July 17 over the mile. Steps up in distance and has a terrible gate to overcome, however, Hugh Bowman sticks and so do we.
1st: *SCRATCHED* No2 WATCHDOG 2nd: No8 Seeingisbelieving; 3rd: No5 Semper Fidelis; 4th: No3 Braces
Canterbury Race 5 - 3:10PM Pluck @ Vinery Handicap (1100 Metres)
BLACK MAGNUM (BEST BET) proved too strong for his rivals when running away to an impressive 3.5 length victory at Warwick Farm. Relished the Heavy ground last time out but can perform on firm going too. Has won second-up in the past and being out of the high flying Mark Newnham stable, he has to be respected especially with the 3kg claim for Chris Williams. Winning hope.
1st: No2 BLACK MAGNUM 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No1 Bombarding; 3rd: No6 Zidane; 4th: No5 Star Crossed
Canterbury Race 6 - 3:45PM Kym Reilly Handicap (1200 Metres)
VINNIE POWER (NEXT BEST BET) is racing in good form without winning of late but can bounce back here. Finished 1.8 lengths behind High Low Bet at Warwick Farm last start when no match for the winner. Needs luck and plenty of it but drops 4kg for this. Don’t dismiss.
1st: No7 VINNIE POWER 2nd: No2 Bull Market; 3rd: No1 Kool Vinnie; 4th: *SCRATCHED* No6 Celer
Canterbury Race 7 - 4:20PM Canterbury League Club Handicap (1550 Metres)
KNOWITALL JACK is a lightly raced gelding that gets in well with the claim and does looks a major player in the final race of the program. Finished 1.8 lengths behind Helga at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago, first-up from a three-month break. Will strip fitter.
1st: No6 KNOWITALL JACK 2nd: No5 Andaz; 3rd: No8 Weekend Affair; 4th: No1 Pembroke Castle
