Saturday Racing Previews & Tips - Randwick 3rd August
An exciting prospect out of the Godolphin yard headlines the Randwick card this Saturday.
Royal Randwick takes centre stage and we have a great nine-card program that sees some gallopers resuming from a break with an eye on bigger and better things this campaign. Our top pick is one that has his eyes firmly set on the spring and resumes from a break today. Is classy and can win today barring bad luck. Will win bigger races!
Randwick is racing on a Heavy 9 with the rail True.
Randwick Race 1 - 11:45AM 2019 Owners Awards Handicap (1200 Metres)
MANDELA was disappointing last start on this track when finishing 1.6 lengths behind Excellent Proposal as the $2.40 favourite. Has drawn well and expect T Clarke to be more positive on this colt and take a forward position. Can bounce back.
1st: No4 MANDELA 2nd: No1 Edison; 3rd: No2 Art Collection; 4th: No7 Wandonna
Randwick Race 2 - 12:20PM NSW Trainers Association Handicap (1200 Metres)
TRUE DETECTIVE was scratched last week after drawing poorly and has found the perfect race here. Just missed at Rosehill last start finishing a nose behind Spend when a touch unlucky in the final few strides. Has the class to atone that narrow and unlucky defeat here today. Has been heavily backed in pre-post markets. Where there is smoke there is fire!
1st: No7 TRUE DETECTIVE 2nd: No5 Lifetime Quest; 3rd: No9 Arthur in Charge; 4th: No3 Misteed
Randwick Race 3 - 12:55PM NSW Racehorse Owners Association Trophy (1600 Metres)
PELETHRONIUS will be praying for the track to stay a (Heavy 9) or worse which will see him take a power of beating over conditions that he relishes. Has won his past two starts and is ready to make it three on the trot. Hit the line powerfully here a fortnight ago to score in BM78 company but although stepping up in grade, can win again. Keep safe.
1st: No4 PELETHRONIUS 2nd: No1 Gresham; 3rd: No3 Salsonic; 4th: No7 La Chica Bella
Randwick Race 4 - 1:30PM Racing NSW Trainers Highway (1200 Metres)
*SCRATCHED* IRISH SONGS looked impressive when defeating Lady Demi by 1.3 lengths on this track in the Highway a fortnight ago and is capable of going on with the job despite coming up with a horrible draw. Expect Tommy Berry to take this galloper back and be saved for one big crack at them in the straight. Has a good turn of foot.
1st: *SCRATCHED* No3 IRISH SONGS 2nd: No1 I Am Capitan; 3rd: No8 Zardoro; 4th: No14 Velvet Aeroplane
Randwick Race 5 - 2:05PM Jockey Celebration Day Handicap (1200 Metres)
ROHERYN (BEST BET) is out of the powerful Godolphin stable and returns to racing for the first time since November last year. Won his first two races before finishing 2.3 lengths behind Chess Star at Rosehill and was then tipped out. Given a quiet trial at Rosehill behind Meryl and Kiamichi in preparation for this. Oozes class, the early money is on and a clear top pick for us.
1st: No7 ROHERYN 2nd: No2 Split Lip; 3rd: No6 Best Guess; 4th: No1 Improvement
Randwick Race 6 - 2:45PM Dixie Blossoms Special Achievement Handicap (1800 Metres)
ATTENTION RUN has had a month between runs since tasting victory at Randwick at his Australian debut and going on that victory. Wasn’t fancied in betting that day and saluted at $20. No fancy odds this time around though and the extra distance and wet track play heavily in his favour. Goes up in weight but retains the Kris Lees / Sam Clenton factor. Why not again?
1st: No1 ATTENTION RUN 2nd: No3 Toryjoy; 3rd: No8 Missybeel; 4th: No6 Semper Fidelis
Randwick Race 7 - 3:25PM Jockeys Reunion Handicap (1300 Metres)
Look for HAUNTED (NEXT BEST BET) to bounce back after not having much luck in the Ramornie at Grafton three weeks back. Held up at a vital stage and stormed home late to show that she is ready to go next start. Has finished less than a length behind Despatch in a Group 3 at Morphettville and that horse won a Group One the following start! Major player.
1st: No2 HAUNTED 2nd: No1 Firsthand; 3rd: No4 Fortensky; 4th: No8 Bangkok
Randwick Race 8 - 4:05PM Industry Recognition Race Day Handicap (1800 Metres)
Sticking with the gelding CYBER INTERVENTION that’s due for a win after finishing runner-up at his two starts since resuming from a break. The wide draw isn’t a concern as his racing pattern is to get back and use his serious turn of foot late. Expect to see him launching in the final stages. Rates well.
1st: No7 CYBER INTERVENTION 2nd: *SCRATCHED* No6 Costello; 3rd: No1 Hogmanay; 4th: No9 Exasperate
Randwick Race 9 - 4:45PM ATC Thank You Owners Handicap (1400 Metres)
JUDGE JUDI will be ready to peak third-up from a break now and looms a major threat in the final event. Finished 1.8 lengths behind Bangkok on this track a fortnight when finding the winner too strong on the day after racing on the speed throughout. Can bounce back in an open race that should see her prominently placed by Brenton Avdulla. Eachway best.
1st: No10 JUDGE JUDI 2nd: No11 The Party Girl; 3rd: No1 Drachenfels; 4th: No2 Thy Kingdom Come
