Sir Rupert Clarke Betting Preview
Begood Toya Mother maps to go forward from barrier 3 and I cannot see anything holding him out for the top. Cliff’s Edge (10) can show speed out of the gate so don’t be surprised to see him up there early while Despatch (9) is a noted on-pace runner.
The Key Runners:
14. Begood Toya Mother – D. Bates: $3*:
Is the likely leader and looks very difficult to go past in this. Was pretty good at WFA level last time in the Memsie when leading and wilting late to finish sixth to Scales Of Justice. The track wasn’t much good that day for leaders with the rail in the true. It moves out 3m here which should suit those on speed which plays heavily in this guy’s favour. Drops a massive 7kgs on his last run. Looks hard to beat.
THE EACH-WAY TIP
5. So Si Bon – J.Kah: $8*:
Doesn’t win often but this guy has been flying since resuming from a spell. Is always thereabouts and won a Group 3 earlier this prep before finishing second to Scales Of Justice in the Memsie. Drawn well and gets an in-form jockey to boot.
8. Widgee Turf – W.Egan: $18*:
You could do worse than back this horse at each-way odds. Chased a hot speed behind The Inevitable first-up at Moonee Valley when fifth and the effort was good. The Patty Payne runner has won twice second-up previously while he is a Caulfield track specialist with excellent stats at the course (7s 3w 3p). Has the class and drops to a suitable weight. Will be close enough if good enough.
Don’t mind going big on Begood Toya Mother in this. Not a huge amount of value outside the top three in betting so we’ll go ‘all in’ on the favourite for this one.
