There will be plenty at stake when Wellington host Perth in Round 22 of the A-league.
While Perth looks set for finals football, Wellington are remarkably still in a ferocious battle for sixth spot so three points here for either side will be invaluable.
The Glory had a regulation 2-0 win over the Wanderers last week to continue their good run of form while Wellington scored one of the biggest upsets of the year in going to Brisbane and knocking them off 2-1.
How hard are the Phoenix to pick?
After putting in sub-par performances throughout the past five weeks, which has yielded just one point, they then break a massive hoodoo by traveling up to Suncorp and beating Brisbane.
Wellington hadn’t won in the Sunshine State in years while their record against Brisbane is poor at best, so how you could have picked them to cause the upset is anyone’s guess.
That win has them back in the race for the finals but they need consistency and that is something that has been lacking from their game all season.
After a slow start to the season Perth are starting to come good.
Kenny Lowe’s men have won four of their past six games and more importantly have kept clean sheets twice in the space of three weeks.
Securing the defence late in the season means considerable improvement for the Glory who at 37 goals conceded are the second-worst in the competition, with only Adelaide and Central Coast (39) having conceded more.
Perth are a riding a four-game winning streak over the Phoenix and will be confident of making it five on the trot.
In each of their past three clashes Perth has managed to score two goals, so taking them to score 2-3 this time around at $2.25 with Ladbrokes looks awfully tempting.
When looking for goalscorers then Phoenix point man Roy Krishna is a logical choice to put one in the back of the net, having done so on three occasions in his past six games against Perth.
This will all depend on which Wellington side turns up.
For the most part they have been really hard to topple at home but in recent times they have been awful, conceding eight goals in their past three home games.
The trip over from Perth to New Zealand is the toughest in the A-league so be surprised if the Glory take a bit of time to get toing in this one. Even though they have two recent wins in the Shaky Isles this game will be in Auckland at a foreign stadium.
That aside and all things being equal you cannot go past Perth.
Wellington are too risky a proposition to throw your cold hard cash on and even though Perth has enjoyed a solid run of home games lately, with their only loss coming against the Mariners on the Central Coast, they are playing too well to dismiss.
If you are having a Multi on the weekend then using Perth as a leg could be the way to go.
