Get ready for a tough encounter as the Titans play host to the Roosters in the final game of ‘Super Saturday’.

Gold Coast surprised many by being able to secure eighth spot on the table last season even though it was with a losing record (11-1-12) but even still, they put in a credible performance in Week 1 of the finals.

The Roosters season was over before it started with Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Boyd Cordner all missing the start of the season. By the time the team was fully fit again they were playing catch-up from a long way behind.

Both sides have added a few new pieces to their arsenal so it will be interesting to see who clicks first in what shapes to an exciting encounter.

One of the best buys of the off-season was the acquisition of Kevin Proctor for the Titans. An established forward for the Storm, Proctor runs straight and hard and is difficult to stop close to the line. His influence within the Gold Coast forwards cannot be underestimated as he brings with him a winning culture.

Add in Kane Elgey at five-eight who returns from injury and Jarryd Hayne, who gets a proper pre-season of training under his belt, and the Titans have a pretty good looking team on paper.

Many good judges are predicting that the ROOSTERS will be one of the last teams standing in 2017.

They finished last season with some really good performances but what was pleasing was the initiation under fire of youngster Latrell Mitchell and Connor Watson. With that taste of first grade experience under their belts they will be far better this time.

Throw in the form of Mitchell Pearce in the backend of last year and the acquisition of Michael Gordon at fullback and it’s easy to see why punters are getting behind them to win the comp. TAB has them at $10 to lift the trophy in October.

Sydney Roosters have won two of the past three encounters but did lose the last one here at Robina, a 26-6 result back in Round 10 last year.

If you think the chooks will get the cash then it could be worth getting on Pearce to be the Man of the Match. Each time the tricolours have won on the Gold Coast he has taken out the player of the game gong.

It’s hard to go past the Roosters.

If you forget what happened last year and look at their squad you have to think they will be hard to toss in this. Remember, they have already had a taste of success this season by winning the Auckland Nines where Mitch Aubusson was simply outstanding.

Don’t think it will be easy though as we expect the Titans to really throw the hammer to them. While it is early in the season this game, if anything, will show us whether or not these teams are capable of playing finals this campaign.
