A Queensland rivalry will be the final peg this Super Saturday for punters to have a crack at.
Gold Coast broke their maiden last week with a come from behind win over the previously unbeaten Parramatta.
North Queensland were rolling on nicely until a totally unexpected stumble against Manly at home, dropping the game 30-8 which was their biggest loss at home in two years.
TITANS BY NAME, TITANS BY NATURE
Jees the Gold Coast were brave last week.
Going down 12-nil early, Neil Henry’s men then lost William Zillman, Konrad Hurrell, Tyrone Robert played on with a niggle and Ryan James along with Ryan Simpkins had concussion tests.
Despite that they found a way to beat the Eels who in all honesty gave the Gold Coast every chance to get back into the game with plenty of errors and dropped ball.
The Cowboys got a dose of what life will be like without inspirational captain and warhorse Matt Scott last week.
His work rate and leadership was sorely missed by the Cowboys who were muscled by the Manly side. Compounding his absence was their poor finishing near the Manly tryline and their discipline which saw plenty of dropped ball and errors.
While we are thinking the performance was a one-off for the 2015 premiers it definitely casts doubts over their ability to win games without Scott.
It’s no surprise to see the Cowboys have dominated this fixture over the past four years.
Winners of four of the past five contests, NTH QUEENSLAND have done it well against the Gold Coast in those victories with an average winning margin of 19.5 points.
Prior to their recent domination it was the Gold Coast who notched three straight and those victories were also by healthy margins. A Cowboys 13+ Win ($3.50 @ Palmerbet) or Titans 13+ Win ($5.50 @ Will Hill) is offering juicy value.
We are willing to forgive the Cowboys for their defeat last start.
The Titans still have some way to go before they can build credibility with us and without several key players, including Zillman, Anthony Don and Jarryd Hayne, they will start behind the eight-ball.
If they are any chance of scoring an upset then they need to win the battle of the forwards but with Scott and Jason Taumalolo missing for the Cowboys along with Justin O’Neill, they are a definite chance.
While we are leaning towards the Cowboys we definitely don’t advise to put ‘the house’ on them.
