There will be plenty riding on this clash when the Cowboys and Rabbitohs do battle in Friday Night Football.

North Queensland have been near unbeatable at home in recent years which gives them some sort of edge here although their defence in 2017 has left little to be desired. Last week they were lucky to escape the Gold Coast with a 32-26 win.

Souths head to Townsville after being easily handled last Thursday against the Sydney Roosters 20-6.

NORTH QUEENSLAND haven’t been their usual selves in the past fortnight.

Coinciding with the loss of inspirational co-captain and metre eater Matt Scott along with Lachlan Coote and a suspension to Jason Taumololo, the Cowboys leaked 56 points in those two games

The first was here at home when losing 30-8 to Manly while they conceded 26 last week but managed to score 32 in taking the two points.

They do get a big boost this week with the return of Taumololo and Coote but whether that is enough to stop the Bunnies from putting points on them remains to be seen.

Just when it seemed as though the Rabbitohs were starting to find a bit of form they put in a stinker against the Roosters.

After losing against the Tigers in Round 1, Souths then beat Manly and Newcastle but never looked likely against their bitter rivals last week.

This week’s assignment is no easier and they will need to lift their game to another gear because last week they dominated possession and ran for more metres yet still looked lost in attack.

North Queensland has a decided advantage in this one in recent years.

Winning six of their past seven clashes with the Bunnies, they have also won four of the past five at 1300Smiles Stadium.

A worrying trend for Souths during their past four losses at the venue is the average losing margin – 20 points. The Cowboys to Win 19+ in Margin markets is paying $3 with Sportsbet.

We are confident enough to take the Cowboys ($1.32 with Unibet).

Although they are far from being certainties, North Queensland’s formidable home record will hold them in good stead here against a Souths side that is desperately missing Greg Inglis.

We think it won’t be a blowout result but the fact the Cowboys have won 15 of their past 17 at home is good enough reason to stick with them.
