Is Saturday’s night’s clash a potential Grand Final preview?

The Storm and Panthers have been highly fancied to take out the 2017 NRL Premiership and from what we have seen so far, both sides have legitimate claims.

Melbourne go into this unbeaten in their opening four matches and produced a come-from-behind effort to knock off the Wests Tigers last week. Penrith, meanwhile, had a stroll in the park but were ruthless early on in disposing of Newcastle 40-nil.

Melbourne Storm were on the ropes to be beaten last Sunday at Leichhardt Oval, however, when they needed him most Cameron Smith stepped up.

Trailing 14-6, Smith produced a 40/20 which the Storm were able to capitalise on. At 14-10 it was always going to go one way from there with the Storm racking up 12 more points in running out 22-14 winners.

Penrith’s slow start to the season is well and truly behind them.

Belted by the Dragons in Round 1, they then did a similar job to the Wests Tigers the following week before going down in a nail-biter against the Roosters at Pepper Stadium.

Last week was their second straight game at home and they made the most of it, blowing the Knights away early to race to a 22-nil lead at the break. While the score could have been more, they racked up 40 points in a highly impressive display.

Look away now Panthers fans!

Melbourne has won 16 of the past 17 clashes between the sides dating back to the 2006 season. The only win for the Panthers during this stretch was a narrow 12-10 victory in Round 9, 2013.

When looking at the clashes purely at AAMI Park it is no surprise to see the Panthers have never won at the venue in six attempts.

This is going to be a close one.

Putting aside the hoodoo that MELBOURNE has over PENRITH, you have to take both teams on recent form.

The Storm have a great record at home and only lost there twice in 2016 while they won their only game in front of their fans, 14-12, against the Broncos two weeks ago.

In Head-to-Head betting you have to sway towards the home side but if you want value then don’t be afraid to have something on the Panthers.

Maybe the way to go is the Total Points Over/Under. Although the Storm are unbeaten their attack really hasn’t fired but it’s their league-leading defence which has won them their matches. On that basis the Under 39.5 Points ($1.65 @ Sportsbet) looks appealing.
