This shapes as one of the games of the round with both sides in red hot form!

Manly has emerged as one of the best teams in the competition in recent weeks and go into this off a hat-trick of wins which was capped off with an exciting 18-12 win over the previously unbeaten Sydney Roosters.

STGEORGE ILLAWARRA similarly have been in good form and have a hat-trick of wins of their own heading to Lottoland. They easily disposed of the Tigers 28-6 at ANZ Stadium last week and are now second on the table.

How good has the Manly defence been of late?

They have conceded just 6.66 points during their three-game winning streak and that says a lot about a team when their opposition has been the Cowboys, Bulldogs and Roosters.

While the defence has been rock solid, Manly’s attack hasn’t been too shabby either having posted 30 or more against North Queensland and the Bulldogs.

Last week’s win against the Roosters saw them run for more metres (1676m v 1547m) and complete more sets and really announced themselves as a genuine early-season premiership threat.

Stgeorge Illawarra has gone from boring to entertaining this season.

After struggling to score points last season, Paul Macgregor’s side is averaging a league-best 25.6 points per game at present. Comparing this to 2016, it’s taken them five games to reach 128 points whereas last season it took them 11 matches!

This is just the fourth time the Dragons have gone 4-1 to open up a season and coincidentally their For and Against (+56) is exactly the same after five games as it was in 2010 when they won the premiership. The Dragons are $26 to take out the title this year with Bet365.

Sea Eagles fans will go into this game with a bit of confidence knowing they’ve had the measure of the Dragons in recent times.

Since 2004, Manly has beaten Stgeorge Illawarra just seven times, however, four of those wins have come in the past five clashes.

Brookvale Oval (or its new name of Lottoland) hasn’t been kind to the Red V of late with four straight defeats at the venue and all by double figure margins including two by 30 or more points including the last time they played (36-6). A Sea Eagles victory by 19+ is returning a very healthy $4.20 @ Sportsbet.

Stgeorge Illawarra face an uphill battle here with star fullback Josh Dugan out of action with a hamstring injury and Mcgregor forced to reshuffle his backline.

All of their wins so far have been built off the back of excellent work from their forward pack headed by Paul Vaughan and Tyson Frizell, with hooker Cam McInnes proving to be a fantastic buy in the hooking role. They are going to have their work cut out this week against the Manly forwards who have dominated their opposition in recent weeks.

Manly’s attack (22.8ppg) will definitely test the Dragons defence which is conceding 14.4 points per game at the moment, which is only behind the Melbourne Storm.

Trent Barrett has his side firing on all cylinders and thanks to the in-form Daly Cherry-Evans, Manly will take a slight advantage into this one but it may be enough to get another win over the Dragons.
