What an absolute cracker of a week in the contracts department. Three big names have inked contracts for next season with different clubs in what should kick the NRL merry go round into full gear.
It’s no secret Aaron Woods has been linked with a move away from the Wests Tigers in recent weeks. The Tigers captain couldn’t be persuaded to stay even with the big name signing of Ivan Cleary to the club.
Woods has signed an undisclosed contract with the Bulldogs for next season onwards. This move should force James Graham out of the club. Graham has fallen out of favour this season with coach Des Hasler. With Des signing a two-year extension, it was only a matter of time before Graham would be told he’d be surplus to requirement at Belmore.
Another major signature was put on the dotted line for the Bulldogs as Kieran Foran has supposedly put pen to paper.
Foran has been on a whirlwind last couple of years after he decided to leave Manly. Foran’s off field issues have been well documented. His time at Parramatta was cut short because of it. Now that Foran has come back to the frame his football has been flourishing across the ditch with the Warriors.
In Foran’s defence he had announced an imminent move to Sydney was on his horizon as he sought to be closer to his family.
Foran rejected a couple of big money offers from Melbourne and Newcastle. It would’ve been great for the Knights to snap him up and get back on the winning path.
Foran has made the right decision for himself and his family.
This move will really put pressure on the Bulldogs to figure out what is going on next season with their spine. The contracts of Reynolds, Mbye, Lichaa and Hopoate are all up in the air. Safe to say at least two of these guys won’t be in the blue and white next year.
One of the hottest signatures on the market was that of James Tedesco. The NSW fullback was hot property and probably the only ‘great’ player on the Tigers roster.
The Tigers are looking more and more like the Newcastle Knights now as they’re being gutted of their stars. With Woods, Tedesco and Moses out the door, Cleary is going to have his hands full righting the ship.
The Roosters were one of the few teams who were considering offering Dugan the type of money he was asking for ($850,000+). With Tedesco being wrapped up, Dugan will now have to rethink where he lands in the 2018 season.
